Has anyone heard of an extension to the MSEP past Aug 14th (end of Summer Nightastic)? I have heard that an extension is possible. And I have heard that an enhanced Spectromagic will return after the 14th. Anyone have anything else?

Would love to have it extended. Not much point in debuting a new-improved Spectro at the beginning of a slump in attendance(except to iron-out the kinks).

Where have you heard this besides elsewhere on the board. I think the rumor is founded on this conjection: "Why would Disney spend all that money to ship MSEP across the country and only run it for 2 months?" so a lot of speculation has come up that they might extend it, but I have seen NOTHING to indicate an official extension...

...OK, except this...in the AP newsletter they list the fireworks as "running from June 25th (or whatever the date) to August 14th" while they list MSEP as "starting June 25th" but don't list an end date. Disney, however, is claiming that MSEP ends August 14th. I suspect we will know on August 15th.

I really do hope they extend this, it really agravated me that they dubbed this promotion Summer Nightastic, yet it did not go on through the whole summer...really?

DCA doesn't need MSEP back for about 2 years. By that time all the construction along the parade route will be gone and then they can run it thru DCA again.

If they do extend this, will they extend the Summer Fireworks show too? I know this is a rumor, but I was thinking when they announced the dates they would extend this too. They just extended FD, why would they not extend this too to lure people in to see something new?

Possible, but less likely. They will probably use these shows (MSEP and special fireworks) to sell people coming next summer as well whne prices are highest. If they extend both shows into the fall, it's not much of a "summer Nightastic" selling point. In fact, this would be the argument why you won't see MSEP extend past August 14th...again so they could use it again next summer as a "come see something you can't see any other time".

The argument for keeping MSEP longer is "they spent the money to transport it across the country - might as well keep using it for that money". The argument is the opposite for the fireworks show: "The summer fireworks show is bigger and more expensive - we'll stop it as soon as the summer stops."

So - I'd say their is almost no way the summer nightastic fireworks are extended, and there is a small chance that MSEP gets extended. (Of course, I thought there was no way they extend free dining this year either, so that just proves I really know nothing...but like to here myself talk (type?).)

One thing that is known is that WDW had MSEP for two years. It is here to stay. Whether or not they choose to dry dock it after Nightastic is the question. Because Spectro is also here and doesn't have a planned destination other than to remain here. Guess we'll find out soon enough?!? As for the selling of resort beyond August 14, that's been taken care of with Dining. So they don't need MSEP to sell anything. It would basically be just a bonus. They run two parades a night. Is a Spectro at 9:00 and MSEP at 11:00 too far fetched?? Yeah, I know.

Personally, I wouldn't be upset if they extended MSEP past 14 Aug. I haven't seen it since I was a kid and thanks to this deployment and WDW thinking summer ends in August (in FL? Really? ), I missing it entirely.

I'm annoyed that the dates overlapped almost perfectly with the summer blackout dates for FL Res Seasonal Passes - you could get in to see them the first day that it started on June 5th but after that you are blacked out until August - after the 14th. Unless, of course, you wanted to spend more money to buy single day tickets or upgrade to a full AP instead of the Seasonal Pass... so I want it extended at least a few weeks so that if nothing else we can drive down one Friday night in late August to catch the new fireworks and parade and come back home the next day without having to spend extra on tickets...

I would say that is a resounding YES! Way too farfetched.

1) They certainly don't have room backstage for both sets of floats.
2) The staffing of the two parades is likely quite different.

Running both parades the same night seems extremely doubtful to me.

There is a article on miceage by Al Lutz, who you could say is the Jim Hill for DLR. He said that DCA will have MSELP back for Christmas.

In no way is what Al Lutz says the truth and absolute plan of Disney. But it does suggest that the MSELP won't be shipped back West right away and could run longer in WDW.

Now, I don't see any reason to insult Al Lutz by comparing him to Jim Hill!

Al Lutz is by no means always right, but he does appear to have some pretty good sources and a quite respectable track record, as opposed to Jim Hill who has been likened to a broken clock for accuracy.

Lutz has reported the Main Street Electrical Parade will return to California by Christmas, which contradicts the earlier rumors that it would remain in Florida for two years. This would mean the parade potentially could run past August, but by Halloween or so it would have to stop to be packed back up for California.

What I still don't understand is that if Hong Kong is never going to use WDW's edition of the Electrical Parade, why not ship that parade back to Florida?
