Aug 27, 2012 Seattle to Skagway Sailing

Palo is booked except for the first and last nights.

My daughters and I like to dress up, not so for husband.

I'm also interested to see what excursions everyone is signing up for? Especially those w/small kids.

My girls are 6 and 8. We have signed up for the white pass rail with exclusive youth activity in Skagway, the gold panning in Juneau and the lumber jack show . Excursions that involve a lot of walking or that take up several hours will not be enjoyable for them at this point .

As for formal night . We love to dress up and my dh always brings his tux though you definitely don't see too many of those .

We have never been interested in Palo simply because we enjoy family dinners on vacation but I have heard it's worth trying !

I'm sure your kids will love the kids clubs ! We have always had a hard time getting our kids out of them ! They have wonderful CMs working in them and plenty of activities.

As far as the FE, you can always bring little gifts for your own kids to put in them each day . I'm sure they would love that ! I'm not sure anyone else on the ship would leave anything in yours since you are not in a group but I could be mistaken .

HI! It won't let me PM you, but here is another question. Jeans are not allowed at any dinner seating in the restaurants? I wish our cruise documents gave more info like this!!! I'm having to ask everything on here!!

Tnbeth1972: welcome to the group! It is too bad you will miss out on the FE but I hope you will come and meet everyone at the promenade lounge at 3 p.m. on the 27th! To answer your question, there is a formal night and a semi-formal night. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me or post on this thread. I have been on several Disney cruises and am happy to help!

I wouldn't do Palo on the last night. jmho. Like in Italy, the dinner in Palo is a very long, "take your time to enjoy" event. I'd allow about 3 hrs. With packing and squeezing in final fun activities, I'd have a hard time sitting back & relaxing for 3 hrs for a meal.

Is this new? I don't recall seeing this anywhere. I think my parents were planning to wear jeans some nights.

As far as I know, jeans are allowed in the main dining rooms. I have worn dark jeans and a nice top and wedges for the cruise casual nights! I think as long as you are not in swim wear or flip flops, anything goes! Anything you would wear to a casual restaurant at home is appropriate for casual nights. There are some who dress really nicely every night too.

If I read this right, it says no jeans at Palo. I saw something on a page last night that said no jeans for dining and I was fretting! My husband would have a fit if he couldn't wear jeans most nights.

Hi Beth!!! Welcome to the group!! We are glad to have you. :)

I have put your info (sans your hubby's name, which I could not find) on the spreadsheet and added you as an "option" in the FE exchange.

So FE Exchange folks - if you feel like including Beth and her two little girls, I'm sure they would love it, but since they signed up after the deadline it's obviously not mandatory. :)

I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, and we're also on deck two - so party deck it is! :)

:woohoo:

I'm so excited to meet everyone at the meetup! I've made cute nametags for everyone to download and maybe everyone can pin them on with a safety pin for the meetup? That way we'll be able to match usernames/names/faces easily. Obviously this is an option, I just thought it would make it easy for everyone to find each other. :)

The nametags are here: www.stephaniecombs.com/nametag.pdf

In case you didn't see, my husband's name is Brian.

Also, FE people, You don't have to leave anything for Brian and me. And I understand some of you "made" things. But if you bring candy or something small, I would LOVE it if you would drop off things for my daughters!! I plan to bring candy and probably some small mickey things for the boy and girls.

Welcome, welcome. It's so awesome having someone just find us- I think its adding a lot of new excitement for everyone!

On Palo- there are almost always space available once you board, they take reservations in one of the clubs around noon or 1 and we've never had a problem getting a reservation once on board. If you don't want to miss a dinner in the main dining rooms, brunch is always an option (and personally I LOVE the brunch- like I sit around thinking about it when not on the ship) so that's a good way to try Palo without missing a dinner.

As far as the FEs we have a few extra so we'll have no problem including your little ones.

Excursions, excursions- we have a 4 year old son and in Skagway we're doing the White Pass train excursion and some sort of dog "cart" through a private company Chillokat Tours (so spelled wrong).
Juneau we're doing the Enchanted Taku Lodge (which we call the Tiki Lounge and always break into song when speaking of it)
Keitchikan we're splitting up with my husband and son doing the Lumberjack Show and I'm going off on the bear tour where I will hopefully not be eaten alive (I have a hilarious bear phobia but love to look at them, but when we've hiked in Washington State I was always sure one was going to pop out at any given moment so when sing the B-A-N-A-N-A-S song at the top of my lungs much to my husband's chagrin as he was trying to enjoy the peaceful outdoors. I'm sure on this excursion it's a bit more "controlled" and no one's been eaten yet so fingers crossed..hehe) wow I really sold that as an excursion didn't I?

Can someone post the link to the spreadsheet. The link I found in an earlier thread isn't working. I want to be sure I have everyone's room number for treats in their fe.

I actually wanted to do a bear excursion!!! We'd have to do it w/out kids and I just didn't want to leave the girls on the ship for that long w/out us. But I REALLY WANTED TO SEE SOME BEARS!!!!

We are doing the gold panning in Skagway, in Juneau I want to do a whale watching tour but signed up for something else. Think I might change it. And then in Ketchikan the Lumberjack show.

Thanks for all your help!

I also apologize if I am loading up people's inbox!! I just have so many questions!!

That was our issue too but my husband volunteered to go to the lumberjack show with the kids so that I could do the bear...it's a little weird to be doing my own excursion without the family but come on it's for BEARS.

Less than a month to go! Has everyone received their cruise documents already? Not the on-line documents that you print, but the small spiral bound materials that arrive in the mail. Just wondering if I should check with DCL, since we haven't received them yet.

We'll also have a couple extras for the FE and would be happy to include your girls! Regarding excursions, our boys are ages 5, 12 and 13, and we wanted to stay together for excursions. So it was tough finding ones that allowed 5-year-olds but would still be fun for our older boys. We booked Takshanuk 4x4 in Skagway, Dog Sled Discovery and Musher Camp in Juneau and Rainforest Canoe Adventure in Ketchikan!

We received our documents in the mail probably a week and a half ago. So I would call!

Thanks for the info on excursions and FE!!!

Possibly, does your TA have them? Some TAs have them sent to their office instead of directly to the passengers. I would call DCL to find out. We've had ours for probably 2 weeks now.

Welcome Beth! My girls are 5, 7 and 10 so I'm happy it looks like they might have more girls their age on board!

I also haven't put together my FE gifts yet, have the idea in my head, so we will definitely include your family. This is our first time participating in a FE and I think it's so fun.

We went round and round about excursions but I think we've finally settled on what we're doing. In Skagway we are doing the White Pass RR with Youth activity in the morning and the Musher's Camp in the afternoon since we have such a long day there. In Juneau we are going gold panning and then up to the glacier. In Ketchikan we are doing the ealy lumberjack show and then checking out Creek Street. It sounds like we might be seeing several of our group on some of these tours!

Stephanie, the name tags are so cute! We'll definitely wear them.

I can't believe we're finally under a month until we set sail! :dance3:

My gifts for the kids are not homemade so I will definitely include your girls Beth ! Unfortunately my adult ones had parts ordered from China so I won't be able to get more in time for this cruise . I knew I should have ordered extra !

Thanks to both of you for the status update! We don't use TAs - always book direct for WDW, DL and DCL, so I called this morning. They mailed our documents on July 16 and they still haven't arrived! But that's fine - they said that if we don't receive them by August 13, they will send a new packet via Fed Ex. Thanks again!

Hmm- We didn't get our documents, they were sent to our old address and they told us it would cost $50.00 to have new ones sent out.:confused3
