Aug 27, 2012 Seattle to Skagway Sailing

Disembarkation -- bummer of a birthday present!

I thought so, too. But better to go than not, right? The actual saddest part is that since it is Labor Day, the dog boarders will be closed for drop off/pick up, so we can't pick up our dogs. Having to wait a whole additional day before I get to cuddle my puppies is THE WORST!

Can we still join the FE? I was initially hesitant because I am the furthest thing from crafty but after getting some ideas on the disboards, I think I can do this! If I'm too late, I totally understand. I know many of you are very organized and have assembled all of your gifts already.

Another issue is we have booked a VGT so will not have a cabin number until a few weeks prior.

I just wanted to check. Thanks in advance :)

Hey guys! We have some general group announcements:

The cutoff for the FE Exchange signup is Friday, July 13th.

Our group meetup will be embarkation day, at 3:00pm in the Promenade Lounge.

There's lots of conversation going on over on our Facebook group- we'd love to have you join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/306867739393733/

That works for me. I finished my fish extender (with help from my sister) this past weekend and I'm starting on my gifts this week. Cant wait to meet everyone:cool1:

As for stuff onboard... you may think we are crazy, but we've never done a single stage show on any cruise (as far as the Broadway type productions like "Golden Mickeys" go. We have seen the special acts, like the magic act, ventriloquist, etc). My hubby is not the stage show kind of person at all (in fact, I had to chuckle a little just thinking about him watching a stage show), and even as I may enjoy it, we always do second dinner seating, so the sun is going down as the show is going on. My sunset pics come first LOL. :

Well you won't have a problem with the sun setting that early this time. Sunset will be much later than you are used to down in Caribbean and Bahama cruises! Maybe you will catch a show this time. How will you know how hubby will like it unless he tries? You can always grab an aisle seat and high tail it out if you aren't having any fun. I saw try something new!

I agree! I will definitely try to get him to one. It's not me, I've tried- he just absolutely doesn't want to go. Which is odd, because he likes Cirque du Soleil and the "Finding Nemo" show at Animal Kingdom. He is an action/ adventure movie kinda guy. Now if something was on fire in the show, I'd have no problem getting him to go. :rotfl:

Well... Disney posted theire filghts (for anyone that booked theirs with Disney) Seems as if we are leaving NY at 7:50 to arrive at 11:00. I wonder... if we don't go straight into the terminal - could we walk around the port for a while before boarding the ship?

Are you getting in at 11am the day of the cruise? If so, then you need to go right to the ship to get through check-in and grab some lunch before the sail away party.

There really won't be much to see at the port. It's not like the Disneyfied ports in Florida. Pier 91 is much more industrial and has little in the way of any amenities.

Thanks for the info. Y:cool1:es we are arriving the day of the cruise. I just thought if we were near Pikes Market we might get a chance to walk around a bit before boarding the ship.

Sadly you won't be very close to Pike Place Market (pro tip, think of the name as its street name it is named after: Pike Pl. ) but with a 30-45 minute transit to the boat, you will want to check in right away to get on board. Do you have time on your way back through?

Hmm. With an 11am arrival I wouldn't put you out of the airport til 11:30 at the earliest, and you'll need about 40 minutes to get to Seattle. How are you getting to Seattle? A car rental will take you extra time as well. And then you'll need some time getting through the port and all that... I'd say you don't really have time.

My wife and I are on this cruise, and we'll be staying in Seattle for two nights prior to the cruise. Definitely looking forward to it from all the pictures that other people are posting! :D

thanks for the info. We are taking Disney transport to the ship. I just thought if we had the time we would like to explore a bit. I guess I'll save that for my next time on the west coast.

I just checked the DCL website, and we have been assigned a cabin. We did get an upgrade, 9C to 9B, but not a huge difference. So anyone with a GTY might want to check. I tried to update my info on the FE spreadsheet to add my cabin #, but was unable to do it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The FE list was locked so that no more people joined on, since the cutoff for participation was last Friday. I am sure that Stephanie will be by to address your change soon.

We are GTY, but no assignment yet...will start checking every day!

I just read a post that said on the July 2nd cruise they had the Taste of Alaska dinner on the first night???? I was under the impression that ToA was also Pirate Night on Skagway Port day. Has anyone heard anything different?:confused3

Hey guys! The FE Spreadsheet has been locked for editing - just PM me here or on facebook, or write a comment in thread with your cabin number and I'll add it to the spreadsheet. :)
