Aug 27, 2012 Seattle to Skagway Sailing

Ok. I think I have decided on our shore excursions.
We are doing the Yukon Experience in Skagway, The Best of Juneau in (where else but) Juneau, and my son and I will be going Salmon Fishing while my mom is taking the City Highlights Tour. Still unsure about excursions in Victoria since it's a late port. I was thinking about the gardens tour or maybe a city bus tour... I think I still have time to decide.

SO CANT WAIT!!!!!!:cool1:

My mom and I are also doing Best of Juno. Last cruise, we went on a modified Western Carib instead of the Eastern we had booked due to a hurricane. Everyone was scurrying to book new excursions when they got onboard. So no one from DIS was on any of our excursions. I don't know where they would go if a storm got in our way in AK. :confused3 I'm glad this time we may have someone we meet the 1st day to travel with.

Has most everyone booked shore excursions?
The only one we have booked is Ketchikan float plane with Island Wings. I keep going back and forth about others.
Am I the only one who can't make a decision?:confused3

No! We're booked for glacier trek by helicopter with Temsco for Juneau. Then the float plane in Ketchikan with Misty Fjords Air. Both gave great discounts if we paid in full early (late Feb or March) so these were easy decisions.

We know we want to do the White Pass train in Skagway but we're undecided if we should do the RT train ride which is 3 hrs total or if we should do the one offered by DCL where you take the train 1 way, then bus to see a little show & pan for gold, then bus the rest of the way back down. Part of me thinks that 3 hrs sitting on a train is too long & monotonous, even if we enjoy the view. OTOH, I think if the gold panning & show are dookey we'll wish we were riding the train.
We'd save $$ to book the RT train direct since ds12 would be half price which DCL doesn't recognize him as a child anymore. OTOH, if we book through the ship, we could use our OBC toward the price so no $ out of pocket. We'll be getting $1100 in OBC so we could either apply to excursions or just buy a Disney gift card to exhaust the credits & apply it to a future cruise.
Also for Victoria, we don't know whether we should:
-take a horse drawn carriage ride
-take a horse drawn trolley ride
-stay on the ship & relax

We don't know if we'll all be tired by the end of the cruise. We would miss dinner to do one of the horse rides. (I forget which was which time.) One of them can be done later & we could squeeze in a short dinner, but by the time it ends, it will be dark out (something the June cruisers don't have to contend with). The other is right at 6pm so we would have to eat quick service on deck 9 to make this happen. Dh is willing but my dad enjoys the relaxing sit-down meals in the dining room.

Ahhh... decisions, decisions. :scratchin
I don't want any regrets or thinking later when we're home again: coulda, shoulda, woulda, ;)

We'd love to join in the FE exchange! Is someone keeping a list, or do we add ourselves to the spreadsheet on page 6 of this thread?

Thanks!

Maggie, you are not alone! I went back and forth on excursions before our booking window opened, and again after we first booked on May 29 (at midnight EST!) I'm finally happy with our decisions, but it took a while!

I'm getting my planning on (wow I sound dorky) hehe. Others might have already found it, but there's a cool trip report being written by a recent cruiser (sailing without flip flops) and it has some great pictures of Tracy arm and Skagway. I was getting so excited to go just reading it.

I'm getting serious this weekend and figuring out excursions. I might try to book a few outside dcl just based on some of the costs of dcl. If anyone else found great outside tour operators I'd love to hear.

I am also enjoying reading the trip reports of the people who already went on our cruise.
Still narrowing down our excursions. Anyone else consider Glacier Point Wilderness Safari in Skagway? I don't want to be silly and skip the train if it is "not to be missed". But on the other hand I was hoping for something a bit more fun.
I am not afraid to go outside of DCL to book excursions. Well except maybe in Victoria since we are there such a short time.
Ah decisions...

Salmon fishing in Juneau or Ketchikan? My Aunt and I are doing the Disney "Salmon Sportfishing Adventure" in Juneau. It will be the most expensive salmon ever, but fun to do!

For those of you who have girl children and are participating in the FE Exchange, how many of them have pierced ears?? I'm looking for Isabella, Maddie, and David, your oldest...

Sorry...Salmon fishing will be in Ketchikan and yes it will be the most expensive fish ever. I told my son (age 13) he had better catch a whole bunch of salmon. A friend went salmon fishing with Kudson Cove and he said it was great!! caught alot of fish (around 20). Dont know if we will get that many but who knows. I checked out the web site and they have the processing right at the dock. He had some smoked and the rest cut. The salmon arrived a few days after he got home.

Just cant wait to get back on the Wonder.:hourglass

Yes pierced ears for Isabella.

Looks like you are ahead of me on the FE idea train. I am slowly getting some ideas together thou:thumbsup2

None of my girls have pierced ears. Maddie is too afraid it will hurt!

I should probably also mention that my youngest, Ainslie, has a nut allergy. Just in case anyone was thinking of doing candy, snacks, etc. I'll go make a note on the spreadsheet.

Yes, I am totally on it for my FE exchange! I am very excited and really love what I'm making. I hope you guys do too!
