Aug 27, 2012 Seattle to Skagway Sailing

So I finally went on to do online check in, Palo, and port adventures. Given that I was a little later I was surprised to see that the second earliest port arrival was available, Palo had TONS of openings, and all the port adventures are still open. It made me wonder so I searched the reservations and it looks like there is still tons of availability in almost every category.

Does that seem odd to anyone else? I thought the last Alaska cruise with Labor Day weekend would be really full but now I'm wonder if it will be a ghost ship. hehe

Oh man, I hope it's a ghost ship!! Well, not with actual ghosts, but that would be awesome to have a not totally full ship. :)

I bet it's because a lot of schools go back in session before labor day. Here in Western Washington, most schools go back after labor day. We'll get back from the cruise on Monday and our girls will start school on Wednesday. It was a no brainer for us to choose this sailing because the cost was significantly less than the sailings earlier in August.

I hope there is still a lot of availability. We're actually hoping to upgrade so we can all be in one room or possibly two connecting rooms. Right now we have a verandah and an inside stateroom.

We are excited to be joining you all! We are sailing with my Sister In-Law and her family and my Mother and Father In-Law. We are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary!
I hope the lower cabins fill up and then we all may get complementary upgrades.:goodvibes On our last two sailings on the Wonder we were upgraded.
My DS - 15 is looking forward to spending his time in the teen club.
This will be our first time doing FE's - sounds like fun. I have to get my creative juices flowing.

This is our story exactly except our schools start the next day. I'm not looking to move to one room though; both cabins were booked onboard & we're platinum so $350 OBC (plus another $200 each from our TA) per cabin is too sweet to give up.

I'd love an upgrade though! :cloud9:
If it doesn't happen it will still be an awesome cruise. We are so looking forward to it & seeing something so different.

If you have a child and are participating in the FE exchange, can you please tell me what your child's name is and their favorite disney character? If you need to PM me this info that is totally fine. It's for their gift! :)

Isabella LOVES Donald. Very excited for FE:banana:

Also why we chose this week. Many towns near us start before labor day but DD always starts after labor day. It was much cheaper for this week.:thumbsup2

Really Small world. I am on the August 27th cruise also. I work on lower base at Bangor.

Well here's another Kitsap Peninsula connection. My mom's entire family is based in Kingston with a couple of my cousins straying as far as Poulsbo and Belfair. I spent my summers growing up on the beach in Kingston.

Since my mother and I are traveling without children, I booked this sailing for exactly the reason stated above. I was hoping to have a fairly empty ship. All of the scholls in our areas go back the week before Labor Day or earlier. Looks like my strategy is working out so far:cool1:

How about a fun poll to help pass our time before our cruise?

What is your favorite thing you have eaten on a previous cruise with DCL?

I'll start. One of my favorite things was the strawberry soup at lunch just after boarding. I never even would have tried it if not for a TR I had read where someone raved about it. It was all that and more!

Anyone else care to go?

I used to love the antipasto salad on the first day after boarding. I would think about it all the time! Now I'm going to say... cookies, ice cream... basically anything sweet!! We try to stay good at home and eat healthy, so going onboard is like our naughty food paradise. :cloud9: I'm daydreaming about the giant oatmeal raisin cookies from room service... and All Hands on Deck!! MMM Cheese. :dance3:

I'm going to agree with you about the oatmeal raisin cookies. The olive spread in Tritons at dinner was great too.:3dglasses

Now since I've only been on one other cruise, and one can only eat so much, I'm lloking forward to trying some things I haven't had. The one thing I haven't stopped craving since I last sailed is the tuna carpaccio at Palo. I konw that's a wierd choice, but I've had it several other places and it just hasn't added up.

The esgargot on Tritons night. Hmmmmm. That plus a salad is all I eat that night (well plus dessert, but dessert doesn't count on vacation). I make my husband and 4 year old order it too so I can eat all 3 servings but not look like a crazy with 3 of those big escargot plates in front of me.

My only other Disney cruise was on the Wonder in the fall of 2000. But I cannot forget our Palo dinner from that trip. I had a fabulous ravioli dish and of course the chocolate souffle.

Question for you veteran FE'ers- how long until we have a final count on the FE participants. I am ordering something that has a little lead time and I was hoping to do that in a week or so. Will we have a lot of folks sign up at the last minute? I'm fine ordering a little extra but don't want to go overboard. Hehe overboard...
