~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

I can understand your dilemma about the summer or OCT, but honestly I thought it was just as hot and humid when we went over Columbus Day compared to the summer.

I remember our October vacations having some very hot days!

How scary about the accident. I saw you posted it on FB but thank God they did not injure anyone else with their actions.

I know... Now she has some yahoo hanging around who thinks the speed limit in town is 70mph (and no muffler)... :scared: You would think - and this is just a guess - that they would learn, they just had a friend die and another in the hospital...

And I did not know you are on your city counsel. I am not sure I could work with people like that or for a town that would vote those people back in. Stay strong

Yah - I am having the same issue - trust me.

My friend goes every August and never sees any BTG. They seem to be only when we go in June or July:

:scratchin Hmmm... Gosh - that end of August time frame looks really nice. If we don't do it this time around - maybe next time? Although - I really want to go for Christmas...

And ITA about the heat, especially going in late August your body is already accustomed to some of the heat.

That's what I was thinking too... ::yes::

I just love this bag and the FF fabric

Thanks - I love how it turned out.

I'm late to the party but this is so cute! Do you have a FB or etsy page?

Welcome!!! I love having new readers!

turned out great!
enjoy your weekend!
am re-doing Megan's room...off to IKEA and painting this weekend!

Thanks!

Ooh - you'll have to show us pictures... Josh and I were just at Ikea the other day. I almost bought my sewing room shelf - but he insisted that I better remeasure (for the billionth time), because he didn't think it would fit. :crowded:

Just on my phone this weekend...running around like a mad woman trying to get things together for DS's birthday party. But I wanted to comment on the newest faboulus bag! I never used to have any love for the villians, but I think Liddy changed my mind a little. If I do go in October, I plan to make meeting them my focus one evening. Love the fabric....is it sparkly? Hard to tell on a little phone. But I love how the colors work so well together. And that zipper pull...LOVE!

I know - Liddy is the BEST Villian advocate ever... I miss her...

As far as I know - the Villians are only out during MNSSHP... :thumbsup2

I am dying to do a Villian bag for our trip - but I just can't choose which one??? I will definately have some sort of Halloween themed bag though. I've been hoarding Halloween fabrics for several weeks - I need to stop buying them... :crazy2:

Forgive me while I yell:

That bag is AMAZING!!!

Maleficent is a favorite villian and the colors are astoundingly perfect for her. And I love that the zipper pull is the dragon form.

All I can hope is that I will someday be able to make one for myself that looks half as good.

I can't nap either. I always end up reading, or thinking about current projects, or hearing weird noises, or not being able to nod off because of dog snoring.

Thanks!!! It did turn out pretty cool. I kind of wish I would have used a different color of purple for her cape, but other than that - I love it!

I was pleasantly surprised how well the zipper pull turned out, when I was cutting it - I was just a bit nervous, it's so small - and that is why I did the ruffle the way I did it, I was hoping it would almost take on the extension of the dragon?

You are an EXCELLENT seamstress - and I bet you could make a park bag that would put mine to shame. ::yes::

********************************************************

Well... V and I went to town yesterday morning - it was a super quick trip... Bank... Library... Walmart... Post Office.... Home.

Then I went up to my sewing room...

I started drafting the pattern for my Camera Bag (which needs a name... Could use some help with that....) I have to say - I have the entire pattern drafted and I love it... It's a mix of about 3 different bags - 2 of which I own. I think I am mostly excited because the front has a really awesome space to applique. I am also excited because it will have space for a DSLR, one extra lens for sure (plus one on the camera), and other little things that photographers usually carry. However - do not confuse this with a large bag, it is a bit smaller than the Messenger. Not only with it have space for camera stuff - but it will also have space for park stuff. Now, it isn't tall like my UPB is (for maps), but it does have space for them. I am super exciteda bout it, and I can't wait to start getting this thing put together. It will take a lot of time, because there is a lot of quilting.

I also finished drafting the pattern for my Camera Bag insert. Marianne gave me this idea, and Mo (Chicago Mo) has been helping me too... The insert is awesome, because (hopefully) you will only need to buy one insert, which can be transferred from bag to bag. I have my first prototype insert almost finished... I am super excited about it! The insert is designed specifically to fit perfectly inside my Camera bag. :beach:

So, that's my big news for today. Whoot!

I plan to lock myself in my sewing room for a good portion of the day (Josh plans to work on the water heater anyways...) and finish that insert, and maybe start quilting the pieces for the camera bag. :thumbsup2

I hope you all have an amazing Sunday!

D~

I am absolutely in love with your maleficent bag absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to see your camera bag and will try to think of a name.

I am hoping to work on a few things today.

Now, ordinarily, I don't comment on the bags I make - I think it's just because I am so critical of myself and everything I do...

However - words cannot express how beautiful this bag turned out. Honestly - these pictures are pretty good (for me) - but they do not do this bag justice at all.

I love the bag, I love the fabric, I love the applique, and I love the zipper pull.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a magnificent bag.

I've got to make a mental note the next time you put up an item up for bidding to check back during the day. I think I missed the two little bags by one bid both times. :headache:

Thank you Chiara. :) I finished my camera bag insert yesterday - I am very happy with it... Very, very happy with it. LOL

I hope you were able to work on everything you wanted to yesterday. :thumbsup2

Yes - do stop back... I only have a few more auctions to go.

Have a great Sunday in the sewing room :thumbsup2

Thanks Lillian - I did! :)

Well, yesterday in my sewing room was a success. The camera bag insert took much longer than I thought it would, but it turned out perfect! Which is always my goal for a prototype. :thumbsup2 What I love most about the insert is that I designed it to be for park touring - and not to carry everything one owns. Does that make sense? So, there is a spot for the camera itself with a lens attached, another 2 lenses - or whatever, then there are several pockets suitable for lens caps, SD cards and cleaning cloths. So, there is enough room for lots of necessary items, but definatelly not tons of room to carry things that you don't need. And this insert is definately girly - I could make it with more manly fabric, but I don't think that would make it more manly.

I thought I would share the insert pictures though, because I am just so happy with it.

OK - so here's the exterior - it's fully quilted... It has intigrated handles, however, personally - even though it looks like it could be an independant bag - I would not use it that way. The handles are more for making it easier to switch bags - you'd just pluck this out of one bag, and put it in another. :thumbsup2 The bottom of the bag is not square... It is designed to nest perfectly inside my new camera bag.

20121111_104451.jpg

This is the interior with out the divider. I put a large piece of velcro into the bottom center, and situated it in such a way that you can move the insert to be off to the side - if you have a bigger accessory that needs to fit there.

Like this... Centered:

Or off to the side:

A photo of the divider by itself:

I am super happy with how this turned out, and I am very anxious to get to work on the bag. :woohoo:

I also have a funny MM photo to show... Alli and I were watching a movie yesterday, and Mr. MM (who is not allowed on the furniture) decided to be a lap dog... Or, shall we say - face dog... :rotfl2: Poor Alli... :rolleyes1

I hope you all have a fantastic Vetran's Day... I will be home all day with my Vetran - maybe we will go out for lunch or something?

D~

:maleficen turned out great!
enjoy your weekend!

Sounds like a fun project. I hope you girls had a fun weekend and are not covered in paint.

D~ Love the Maleficent bag but as I posted on the disboutique thread that zipper pull is scaring me! You did an amazing job and the fabrics are beautiful. Maleficient's face is PERFECT. :worship:

The camera bag insert is the greatest. I love the integrated handles and the way you created the divider. Can't wait to see the bag too. You had a VERY productive weekend. I would say I'm sorry you didn't get that nap in but then we would have had to wait for this camera insert....

Someone does need to let MM know he is not a lap sized dog anymore. Too funny.

Hope Josh enjoyed Veteran's Day. Please tell him Thank You from me.

I can't believe I missed the goofy bag!!!! I loved it! Oh well, I hope who ever got it is happy, that's what I get for going out of town. :thumbsup2

How about UCB? Ultimate Camera Bag?

Just a thought.

Thank you! I really love how it turned out - it took a lot longer than I thought it would (doesn't everything?)... I think that the thing I love most about it, is that it's feminine. If you do an internet search for camera bag inserts, they are all square and blockish looking... I love that this one is so unique and girly. princess:

Someone does need to let MM know he is not a lap sized dog anymore. Too funny.

th_20121111_133146.jpg

LOL - I know! We try, but he is quite independant minded. :confused3

Hope Josh enjoyed Veteran's Day. Please tell him Thank You from me.

I did tell him - thanks for thinking of him. We had a nice day... We went and did a little shopping. He got new shoes for work - and in the process, I got new shoes for work - my first pair of Dansko clogs. :thumbsup2 Hopefully they help my foot pain while I am at work.

I can't believe I missed the goofy bag!!!! I loved it! Oh well, I hope who ever got it is happy, that's what I get for going out of town. :thumbsup2

I can't believe you missed the Goofy bag either. LOL Next time.

Hmmm... UCB... :scratchin I would like to name it something not using the word "Ultimate" or begin with a "U" - just so it doesn't get confused with my UPB... So, what's another word for Ultimate????

**************************************************

I worked in my sewing room for about an hour. I got a lot accomplished - but I will admit that I have an easy week.

Josh and I snuck out of the house to do a bit of shopping. He needs a new pair of shoes for work. It seems he is a bit irritated that he only gets one new pair of shoes per year, and the girls and I get several. :confused3 We may have to remedy that this year. :rolleyes1

On our way to shopping, I had to stop at the PO to mail my package... Imagine my shock and utter surprise, when I walked into the PO and smashed cheek first into the door. It was locked! :confused3 Huh??? I looked back at the car - to Josh laughing hysterically. I was so mad, according the the hours on the door - they had closed 15 minutes early for lunch. :headache: I was very irritated! It wasn't until I got half way back to the car (with Josh still laughing hysterically) that I realized it was Vetran's Day and the PO was closed. :mic: Note to self: Can't ship on holidays. :rolleyes1

So, Josh and I wasted our entire afternoon. Managed to get a couple of Christmas gifts for MM... New bowls... Ruf got really nice bowls his first Christmas with us - so we decided to carry on the tradition. We also got him a couple of toys.

We also decided what else to get V for Christmas - to make it "even" between the girls. We've been struggling with that for several weeks. So, that's a big weight off of our shoulders. Now, to get it ordered.

Allison and I decided this morning that this weekend will be dedicated to getting everything ready for Thanksgiving. We will bring up the village from the basement, and get it set up. I will also have to bring up all my serving dishes and get them washed and ready - then I need to plan out what goes in which bowl/platter/serving tray. I also need to get the good China out and washed - I am super excited to finally have good China - it was a gift last year from my Step-MIL, and it was her Mother's second set of China. I am so very lucky and I am very excited to use it. My cousin once promised me my Grandmother's China - I am not sure what happened to that, but I never got it??? :confused3

Josh and I also started our Thanksgiving grocery list. We need to sit down one night this week and get the rest of it figured out... Spices and such.

I will be finishing up my order in my sewing room this morning. I am not sure what is next on my project list, I really want to work on my camera bag prototype, but then again - I really should finish my bag for my December auction, so I don't have to worry about that later. I have a free sewing schedule now until the Monday after Thanksgiving. I knew my TG work week at Target would be awful - so I just didn't schedule any customs for the next 10 days. But I still hope to get some things done. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today! :cool1:

D~

I almost forgot to add...

We just found out a few days ago that Josh's Dad and Step-mom will be home for Christmas. :lovestruc This is HUGE for us...

Back in 2010... Josh's Dad and Step-Mom moved to LA. Josh's brother moved to The Netherlands. Josh's Mom got remarried and moved to MT. And we were left here in MN.

So, we are very excited to have some of his family back here to spend the holidays with. :woohoo:

I'm SO EXCITED!!!!!!! it looks FABULOUS, AMAZING, TERRIFIC, PHENOMENAL, astonish, astound, bewilder, blow away, blow one's mind, bowl over, daze, dumbfound, electrify, flabbergast*, impress, move, perplex, put one away, shock, stagger, startle, strike, stun, stupefy,
Yes i looked it up because i needed more to say how much i LOVE IT!!!!!
How exciting!!!!
Glad things are looking up for you!!! Yeah i had a busy week, weekend!
HAVE to go and update my PTR now!!!

You really got a lot done over the weekend. The camera bag insert looks fantastic. Pretty but practical! That's what you could call it: PBPCB!:rotfl:

I think it's a lot of fun to plan and get ready for Thanksgiving. Back when I had bronchitis and couldn't do much, I made lists about TG. Shopping list, who will sit where, time table for the day, assignment list for my helpers. It was a lot of fun. :goodvibes (and just so you don't think I'm TOTALLY anal, the only reason I assign seating is due to some lefties who have to sit in certain places!)

What great news to have family joining you for Christmas! Only one of our 4 kids will be home for Christmas, but I'm sooo grateful to have him! It's tough to live away from family. (most of the time!;))

Love the camera bag! I only have a little point-n-shoot, but I just love it for the organizational properties....That's why I love my Vera bags, because they do such a great job with organization. This "camera" insert would be very useful for more than just Disney!

So great that you will have Josh's family with you for Christmas! That's what the season is all about for me...getting to see all the family. I will hate it when we lose our Nana, because I only see those people twice a year (Thanksgiving and Christmas) Love the holidays!

The whole camera thing is great!

And I'm so glad T does not try to be a lap dog. When he's in the lovey mood he'll come and lean against your legs and then slide down to lay on your feet.

It's always nice to see people from the coast for Christmas. My niece is in SF and has been able to make it back here the past couple of years. I don't know about this year.

Thank you veteran for me and get him some more shoes!!!:rotfl: (my DH only has one pair of 'nice' shoes at a time, but that's his choice)

Love the Maleficient bag but I am really loving the camera bag insert! Can't wait to see the whole thing together!! How about the Most Awesome Camera Bag(MACB) or Efficient Camera Bag(ECB) or Incredible Camera Bag(ICB) The last one's initials remind me of root beer though :rotfl2:

Thanks Mo! I have been looking forward to your opinion, because you helped me out so much. :lovestruc I am very glad you like it.

I like that!

No need to feel anal, I understand perfectly, after all - I am a Lefty. ::yes::

I am a list maker, as well. Which isn't a problem, until I lose it - which I do more often than I would like.

What great news to have family joining you for Christmas! Only one of our 4 kids will be home for Christmas, but I'm sooo grateful to have him! It's tough to live away from family. (most of the time!;))

I am glad that you will have family home for Christmas, even if it isn't everyone. I always feel so horrible that I don't always make it home for Christmas. Since it's such a long drive - we try to squeeze it in whenever we can, and more often than not, we do it the Sunday before - because my Dad's is right on the way to my Mom's extended family party. And if the weather is bad - we don't make it to either place. :worried:

Love the camera bag! I only have a little point-n-shoot, but I just love it for the organizational properties....That's why I love my Vera bags, because they do such a great job with organization. This "camera" insert would be very useful for more than just Disney!

Thanks Suzi! :)

I agree - we are very excited, well, Josh for sure is... It's been a few years since we've been able to see his family for Christmas.

The whole camera thing is great!

Thanks! (I don't think you have ever posted your first name... And I feel badly that I don't know it... Hint, hint... However - if you post it - there is no guarantee that I will remember, but I will try.) :thumbsup2

Your comment about Josh's shoes had me LOLing.... I thought that was DH's choice too - but apparently not?

Love the Maleficient bag but I am really loving the camera bag insert! Can't wait to see the whole thing together!! How about the Most Awesome Camera Bag(MACB) or Efficient Camera Bag(ECB) or Incredible Camera Bag(ICB) The last one's initials remind me of root beer though :rotfl2:

Thanks!!! I love your name ideas! I love the ICB one - even if it does remind everyone of Rootbeer - there are wose things it could remind us of... LOL

******************************************************

I had kind of a boring day yesterday. I did finish the applique on the wallet set, I should be able to assemble everything this morning, and have pictures up this morning too.

I've known for a few days, but I didn't want to say anything until it was official. I won the election. It was a very close race - very close. I won by 1 vote. So, I will continue to hold my seat. There is a lot of relief there among many. And I feel better that I don't have to leave a job half finished.

Nothing else new or exciting. I hope you all have a wonderful day! :wizard:

D~

Congrats on winning the seat! Wow, one vote??? God does have a sense of humor. You'll be a great asset to your community and the council!:thumbsup2

I finished one of my Christmas skirts yesterday afternoon and am almost finished with the second one. I had a quick question if you don't mind me highjacking your TR thread. I want to appliqué one of the little squares from the main fabric onto a store-bought shirt to complete the outfit. How hard would that be? I just use a satin zig zag stitch, right? I've never appliquéd on knits before, so wasn't sure if I needed special stabilizer or what. Thanks for any help!

Congrats on winning the election!!! I'm sure it would have been a might higher margin if they didn't do that last minute write in vote thing but it only matters that you won. Now you can continue your efforts to get your city straightened out. :faint:

I'll have to remember about those left handed eaters since my SIL will be with us this year for the first time in about 10 years and she is a lefty.

Everyone is coming up with some great names for your camera bag. I like them all but if you go with ICB I wonder if Ginger will get jealous.

I'm so excited that you will get to celebrate the holidays with Josh's family. The weather can really throw off your plans. The potential for weather is keeping my sister and her family from coming to our house for Thanksgiving and her daughter is not happy :furious: They have to drive through the mountains in West Virginia and her husband has to work so she would have to drive alone with her 3 kids and she is too scared.

I hope Josh can find a new pair of shoes. He does understand that girls NEED lots of different shoes. My husband is in dire need of new work shoes but I refuse to go shoe shopping with him. It literally takes him hours to just look at the different choices before he will even try something on. I can't handle it. He doesn't have trouble buying casual shoes since he always seems to bring home a new pair from Sam's Club when he goes. :rotfl2:

Lois - I'm sure D~ will have some great advice for doing the applique but if you look on the first page of any of the Disboutique threads you will find a link to Heather Sue's hand applique tutorial. That is the process lots of users on that board use when doing my hand appliques on t-shirts. Some might suggest a ball point needle but I have had success with a regular needle. You might want to try a wider zig zag stitch if you like that look with the hand applique.

That would be adorable Lois! :) Actually Liz's advice below is exactly what I was going to tell you. I follow Heather Sue's most awesome applique tutorial on page 1 of the Disbou thread - I do my appliques exactly how she tells you to do them. You will need to invest in Heat & Bond lite and some iron-on tear away stabilizer + a heat resistant cloth so you can iron the applique together with out fusing it to the surface... It's a hefty investment at first (prob about $45 for everything - not on sale) - but you never have to buy the cloth again, and the H&B/stabilizer lasts me approx 6 months (and I do LOTS of applique work)... Fair warning though - super addicting.

However, if you are going to applique on knit - I would use a heavier, possibly non tear away stabilizer... Definately iron on though. :thumbsup2 I don't usually have much luck appliqueing on knits though - I think it is really hard, I don't know how others do it?

Congrats on winning the election!!! I'm sure it would have been a might higher margin if they didn't do that last minute write in vote thing but it only matters that you won. Now you can continue your efforts to get your city straightened out.

Thanks Liz... I have known for a few days, and there are so many relieved people - myself included. However, I am a bit nervous because there are some serious issues that need to be attended to. I pray that I am able to make the right decisions for our Town - even if the decisions aren't liked or understood. :faint:

I'll have to remember about those left handed eaters since my SIL will be with us this year for the first time in about 10 years and she is a lefty.

LOL probably!

I hope your sister is able to make it... But I am one of those chicken people who won't travel in bad weather - it's just not worth it. And I certainly wouldn't travel through the mountains... Yikes!

Fortunately - for work, he will only wear one brand - because of the concrete floors in the hospital and the miles he puts on every day... And you can only get them at a few stores in the Metro - so that narrows down our tromping around a little bit. But they are not cheap either... I really shouldn't complain... And I really should see that he gets more than one new pair of shoes per year. I feel really badly because I sometimes don't realize things like that, and he works much harder than I do. :lovestruc

^^^^^^ Yup, I agree! :)

D~ <--- Who is going to be stalking The Dis most of the day, since I have very little work left to do in my sewing room. :smokin:

Congratulations on winning the seat!

I love the picture of MM. My dog Sierra sits like that on DH's shoulder while he eats. We call it "the parrot". Of course she's only 12 pounds, a bit smaller that MM. :rotfl2:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :jumping1: I hope that you and the other council members are able to clean up the messes left behind, and are finally able to take your city forward to a better and more financially stable future. :goodvibes

Maybe I will be a creeper and just follow you around as your stalk the Dis today... :rolleyes1
