~ Aug 2013~ Sew what... We've gotta find a way back! Part I!!

right away I thought it should be called a Philharmagic Bag.

Yes yes yes! Perfect :)

It's so cute D! What a great idea to make the hidden pocket so you can still use your hat too! Glad you had a good time, but I understand about being homesick. It's totally different when you are the one away from them

I am very excited about this bag. It really was a labor of love. I knew my UPB would have ample representation, with Beth and Marianne both bringing theirs. And since I don't personally own a PPP, I decided it would be fun to have one with me in Charlotte for people to see.

The "butt"

Now, I will say - that no Duck was harmed or sacrificed for this project. The "legs" of this bag are actually the legs of my "Duck Butt" hat. I inserted a hidden zipper into the linking of the bag, so I can pull my hat out of the bottom at any time, and still wear it. :)

D~

That is Genius!! A storage place for your hat that enhances the bag. Brilliant!!

Have a safe flight home :)

Just so everyone knows, D's bags look better in person. She is an excellent seamstress and makes my wonky seams look pathetic. I also had the privilege of going through D's personal belongings (and Beth's too -- Marianne had her bag way too full for me to empty it out!!!).

I've benn following along and figured I should post already. Hope you have a safe trip home. Love your new bag, I originionally thought someone's legs were cut off just fo rthe bag but that is pretty smart to make a place for your hat. And really love the disboutiquer wallet, that is a great idea.

Just a quick drive by to let you all know that I had a safe flight home.

As I was sitting in the airport, surfing Facebook, someone sat down next to me - I was not paying attention, and did not even look. A few minutes later, I heard someone say (something along the lines of)... "I can't believe that they let you in here"... Huh? I glanced up and there was Lisa and Megan. It was so nice to get to say one final good-bye to them. I hope they are having a good flight home.

To all my good friends in Charlotte - I truly enjoyed meeting each and every one of you! I know that each one of you touched my life and made this a weekend to remember. :grouphug:

Marianne - thank you so very much for sharing your home, your ear and your machines with me... also for letting me ride shot-gun all weekend. I couldn't ask for a better sewing buddy. Also, please thank Dave for welcoming me into your house as well... He was such a sport to open his house to a "stranger"... And he makes the BEST coffee!!! I hope you are getting some time to enjoy each other as a family today, as I know I arrived so soon after you got home from RI, and you didn't get much of a chance before I got there.

My neighbor invited me for dinner tonight... Josh took the girls to a baseball game... So, I am headed over there to hang out for the evening.

Tomorrow it's back to the grind, and another bag to make.

D~

I wish I had time for individual responses, but I am typing on my phone...

Sandra, please know that I am praying for your family during this time.

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my bag. It is actually based off of my very first drawings of my UPB, it was a lot of fun to carry here in Charlotte.

I fly home today. I had so much fun here and met so many great people! Despite that, I am looking forward to getting back home. My whole family has been away from me many times before, but I have never been away from them, I must admit to being a bit home sick.

My bags are quite full, as of now, I have been able to fit everything into my carry on bags, so hopefully I won't even have to ship anything home. I am very pleased with my purchases here, even though the main purpose of this trip was to fabric shop, I really didn't buy that much... 4 yards of various fabrics, and a lot of thread. It was just an amazing experience to meet so many of my Dis friends.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!

D~

Thanks D!! I was glad to see you ladies all had a great time together.

Glad you made it home safe and sound. That was really great of your neighbor to invite you to dinner while you family was off having fun. I'm sure your glad to be home but at the same time sad to have left a great group of friends.

So, I thought I would do a mini-TR about my trip to Charlotte.

I was so nervous to fly alone for the first time, but once I got through security - I was fine. I wound up with the entire back of the plane to myself - it was so nice. The flight was easy and smooth - rather enjoyable actually.

I brought along a new set of legos for Phalen and Finn (they are so adorable!)

I also brought a few goodies for Marianne.

On Thursday, we mostly just hung out. I helped MA with a few projects she was working on. She even asked me to look at her Singer 237... Which didn't like me too much... Sigh. I am not sure what was wrong with it - but I couldn't fix it by the time I left. Fortunately, I didn't rip it apart too much, and she assured me that she could get it back together easy enough.

Then on Thursday night, MA made the most wonderful dinner of wedge salads, lobster bisque and Tuscan bread... It was so amazing that I didn't snap a picture until it was gone.

After a long day of traveling, I was so ready for bed! It was a great first day, Marianne and her family made me feel so welcome!

D~

So glad to hear the flight was good and no nerves for you after security. I always hate going through security myself. How cute are those boys! You definitely know how to win over young boys!

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip.

I have thoroughly stalked all your sewing creations... Wow girl! You're awesome!! Please tell me where I can buy these?? Is it a no-no to give out that info here?

Welcome home. I thought I commented earlier on your ADORABLE Donald bag but I guess I didn't. :confused3

Love the AG dress too. Who ended up with it? It was so cute.

Yah - it wasn't that hard to fly alone... It was worse on the way home because my bags were so heavy, and I chose to carry-on only. I made the mistake of carrying my Vera Bradley Weekender bag cross body on my left shoulder, and slinging my backpack strap on to my left shoulder too - I noticed last night that I had several popped blood vessels on that shoulder... :crazy2: Note to self: Distribute the weight. LOL

Welcome!!! And thanks! :) I've sent you a PM. :beach:

I spent the day in my sewing room yesterday... And reconnecting with my family. I also organized some of my goodies from the trip. :faint: It was lots of fun to pull out everything and compare it to what I already had. Especially the thread I purchased, I was anxious to see that I got all the colors I needed, because I was going off of memory. I did pretty well, and I only have a hand full of colors that I need to order from Long Creek Mills... And the color chart I want to get - I was so jealous of the one Marianne purchased - if I am going to be ordering from such a long distance, I really need to have a chart like hers.

Before I do my next mini-trip update, I wanted to show you all some of the Pixie Dust I received while I was in Charlotte...

This was from Beth (Blyssfull)... She digitized a portion of my store logo and embroidered it into a frame for me with a picture of Patience (she was very happy to finally recieve some adknowledgement) - it is super cool!!! Then she decorated a wine glass with LGMHs and a D - it's super cute! And she made a travel cup for me with Donald on it and on the back (you can't see) is "That Duck!" LOL...

Marianne gave me the most amazing Donald book ever... It is FULL of artwork and Donald Duck history... It's a Donald encyclopedia - Super cool!!!

Andrea made each of us luggage tags that we could choose ourselves - these are really awesome! I have made luggage tags before, and it's super hard to work with the vinyl, these are perfect and I love how they fold over. Thanks Andrea!! The girls love theirs too!

20120821_144425.jpg

Then Lisa made all of us these adorable note cards! They have hidden Mickeys embossed into the note cards - and they are just so cool. I know I will have a hard time using them, because I will just want to save them for special occasions. Thank you Lisa!

And finally - here is everything I purchased in Charlotte. I had a list with me of my upcoming bags - but I did not find a thing for any of those. I did try to find fabrics that I had never seen before, or thought I wouldn't see again. In the end, I only brought home 5 yards of fabric. I did purchase a ton of thread though... Mr. Rocket is super picky about his thread - and several months ago, Marianne sent me a spool from LCM to try out, and Mr. R seemed to like it - so I went with the full intention of getting lots of thread. And I did. I also got 4 large cones of serger thread, so I can take the expensive thread out of my serger... and a few odds n' ends goodies that were free-bees from the stores.

I hope everyone has a fantastic day today! I have to run to town to get some groceries, and V has her orientation today - and a possible hair cut this afternooon. I have every intention of getting in to my sewing room intermittantly through out the day.

D~

I was so very tired from the night before - so I slept in...

Today was a big day! Beth (Blyssfull) was arriving - and I was super excited to meet her! Also, Liz (Babynala) was arriving - I was equally excited to meet her.

MA and I hung out at her house that morning... We worked on some projects she had going on, and at about 1:00 - we headed towards Beth and Liz's hotel. We had just pulled on to the road of the hotel, when Beth texted that she was all checked in. WHOOT!!!

Here's a few photos from the area around the hotel - it was very beautiful! I loved all the shutters on the buildings.

We went into the lobby to meet Beth, we had made a sign for her and Liz - and the boys were holding it (did I mention how cute they are?)...

Beth came out - and there were hugs all around.

We decided to head out to grab some lunch - Liz hadn't texted any of us yet and we were hungry. I voted for my favorite - Jimmy Johns!

The nice girl that I am - I gave Beth shot-gun and I took the back seat with the boys... WOW... I didn't think I would get that door closed. LOL As I was buckling - I looked down and half my behind was hanging off the seat - um... So I braced myself and slammed the door... Somehow, it closed and we were off to get lunch.

While we were eating, Liz texted that she was on her way to meet us for lunch. :cool1:

When we finished lunch - we decided to go check out some local fabric shops... Beth was having issues with her embroidery machine, and was hoping to get it into a shop while she was in Charlotte to be fixed. Unfortunately, they were too busy to accomodate her. :confused3

You see - Beth had designed these amazing shirts for our "fabric shop hop" - so we could all coordinate, and she still had one to go...

Aren't they cute?

We decideed to head to Hancocks, which was near by where Rachel was going to play for Camp Rock... We did a little shopping there - and then we realized what time it was... We had to GO!

ACK! Traffic was bad, and we feared we wouldn't make it on time. And we still had to meet with MA's DH, so he could take the boys for the evening... :crazy2:

I will leave you all here for the day - because I have a few pics for the upcoming post. :cool1:

D~

My daughter got D's AG doll dress in the swap! We really love the dress (McKenna is wearing it right now).. the Magic Kingdom fabric is awesome and the small doll sized tag inside is too cute.

The Donald Bag was out of this world COOL! :thumbsup2

I wouldn't mind seeing better close ups of the fabric you got (but if you are keeping it semi concealed for future use in bags I understand). ANd not fair -- you got purple thread in your gift pack -- I got a really dark olive green. Though, I am not complaining, a gift is a gift!

And I don't use vinyl in the luggage tags -- I use these report covers that you buy at Office Max -- so much easier to work with though still not perfect. And *thanks* for the close up of the luggage tags so you can see all my errors!

finally made it over....still trying to get caught up after our trip!

was fun to get to meet up with you and the other ladies! love my little wallet, Beth made mine a bit different, will post photos later, still need to edit and upload them and Megan loves the tinkerbell AG outfit too! your cards are MADE TO BE USED, so please use them!
