Aug 03 2008 Magic (West Coast)

That's funny. The last time I was on a horse was when I, in anticipation of our upcoming Carnival cruise to Mexico (in 2006 I think it was), asked a friend about horseback riding lessons so that I could do Randi's Happy Horses in Mazatlan and not make a fool of myself. She hooked me up with a friend who would give me a lesson for free. Long story short, the first "lesson" the horse threw me and I landed on my shoulder and broke my collar bone. I was somewhat healed before the cruise but still sore.

I was told later that I need to learn HOW to fall off a horse.

[The last time I went horseback riding was when the Magic went to Mexico in 05. It was fun, but I was not a fan. I was afraid that I would fall off the horse. Crazy. I know.

You experienced what I was thinking as I was horseback riding. I was willing to make a fool of myself, but it was my neck that I was worrying about.

I am glad to hear that you were okay by the time you went on your cruise.
I guess we will not participate in any excursion that requires horseback riding.

eeek! sorry about your fall and your collar bone. not a great intro to horses, can totally undestand why you'd never want to do it again! Personally, I think there's no way to learn HOW to fall off a horse. it's not graceful - you're at the mercy of gravity and a hard ground.

Beyond my family, horses and DCL are my two "loves". Glad we can all agree on the DCL part!!

According to my confirmation email, the Magic arrives back in LA at 5:15 am Sunday morning, so I would not worry - we are going to that baseball game too!! (My husband and son are big Yankee fans).

If I recall, the game starts at 2 pm so you will have plenty of time to get to the stadium, which is in Anaheim so not too far from Long Beach.

We are on a 12:45 p.m. flight from LAX and have been assured we can make it so I am sure you will be fine.

Topsider's is fine with us! :thumbsup2

See you all there in just over a week! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I'll be at Topsiders at 10am. Sorry for the delay! We were at Soak City yesterday, then DH was on the computer until after I went to bed. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Horse Camp is really fun. Tiring with 16 girls ages 8-14, but still really fun. I love being able to show kids the amazing world of horses. and they get to do everything - ride, groom, tack, give baths, paint horses, clean tack (necessary but not a favorite activity), ride bareback, and a personal favorite - clean stalls! the last camp of the summer starts the Monday after we get back from the cruise. I'm hoping my cruise-induced relaxed state will last for a few days at least.

SoCalDCLfan, my DD6 is crazy about horses! She has taken classes at Rancho del Rio Stables in Anaheim. She wants to take private lessons now, but we just haven't had the time. Her wish is to have a pony, but that won't ever happen. I'm willing to do the lessons, but she'll have to wait until she grows up to get her own horse. :) Where is your camp? I assume in south county since you live in Irvine. (I went to UCI.) Does your DD7 love horses too? We should definitely introduce the girls.

Camp is at Bridges Training Stable at Sycamore Trails in San Juan Capistrano. Lessons and camps are great, but I agree with you - no need to buy a pony! my 10 yr old rode for 3 years, loved it. bought her a pony (easier financially since I work there), and then a year later she decided not to ride anymore. fine with me, I want her to do something that she wants, BUT now I'm stuck with trying to sell a pony. not easy in this financial market. so stick to your guns and don't buy one! lesson programs are great because they get all the riding and can use someone else's horses.

my DD7 loves the ponies, but is taking a break from the riding part. she wants to do gymnastics. hopefully she'll meet up with your DD6 in the Oceaneer's Club. she's particularly excited about Goofy's Pajama party and the hunt for experiments with Stitch.

My son and I are going shopping because his "nice" clothes no longer fit. What are your teenage boys wearing on the formal night? Jacket and tie? I'm thinking maybe I should rent him a suit.

Exhausted! Today, we cleaned and prepared my parents' backyard for the big Anniversary Party. Everything is almost in order. We gave the cater the final count (80 people) and confirmed the band. Tomorrow is another day of running around, and my sister and I will try to write the toast. Today, we tried and had a bit of writer's block.

In a few hours our cruise will be one week away! :cool1:

Amanuesis: I wish I could help you out, but I just have girls. And their issue is what to wear (so many choices -- What is a girl to do). Good luck shopping. I hope you are able to get some suggestions.

My DD and I are preparing to watch The Best of Both World Tour on the Disney Channel (Miley/Hannah Montana concert w/ the JONAS BROTHERS).

I will check in with all of you tomorrow. Happy Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Formal night DS12 will wear a suit and tie, semi formal dress pants and polo, most likely. All other nights he will probably wear dressyish shorts (similar to golfing shorts only Billabong or whatever brand) or khakis if I can get him to change. Found some black (all black yet) Vans that he will consent to wear. Sis took him to Pennys to look for shoes but, unfortunately they only had "old man" shoes in the kids department. :confused3 :rotfl2:

Nearing the 7 day mark! Can't wait.

I was thinking about making "table tent" type nametags with our screen names for our meet. I can also bring blank sticker nametags (Hello my name is...) that we can each fill in with our real name. How does that sound?
