We will be heading down for our first trip at the Fort next week. Any suggestions for a good audiobook? We like all different types of books so any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Naked In death by JD Robb a.k.a Nora Roberts. Or The Witness by her.

Stop at any Cracker Barrell - they have racks of newly released audio books.

Pick up at one and drop off at another.

You pay full price when you pick up and they refund everything except $3.49 when you return it. Net cost $3.49

One person picks for the southbound trip, another pick for the trip home.

Easy-peasy!

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon! The best audiobook I have ever listened to. The story is outstanding and Davina Porter brings the story to life in a way few can. It's long and will keep you entertained for many hours.

Janet Evonovich is always good for a laugh.

James Patterson's women's murder club (the numbered books 1 to 11).

Time passes very quickly with audio books.

Love Diana Gabaldon's books. I would second this recommendation.

Audiobooks are my favorite on long trips! My only rule is it must be unabridged. I like any of Dan Brown's books on audio (DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, etc.) since his books all have this frantic pace, it seems to make the time go faster.

If you are a Harry Potter fan, I strongly recommend the audiobooks. Jim Dale, who reads them, brings them to life in a different way. With each of the Harry Potter books, I read them first then totally enjoyed listening to them later.

We like the Kingdom Keepers series. It is a young adult series where the kids work for Disney and at night the parks come alive. The kids have to save the parks from villians.

Another prop for Jim Dale and Harry Potter audio. We listen to them over and over. Jim also narrates the Peter and the Starcatcher series which is a fun listen.

What a great idea to listen to a disney based book on the way there! I've read all these but they would be fun to listen to!

How is your library's supply of audio books? I usually get 4 or 5 different ones for our trips. (Actually I listen to audio books all the time since our radio stations stink! :goodvibes) Our library has most of the best sellers and lots of variety in titles.

Yes, this! We listened to the Goblet of Fire over the course of a couple of regional camping trips last month - great narration! And now we're reading Order of the Phoenix at bedtime, DH has been reading aloud for DS and me :) He's been adding some of the Jim Dale inflections, especially Hermoine's "Harry" :rotfl2:

Ooh, I haven't looked for Kingdon Keepers on audio yet. We read most of them aloud as a family last spring, but stalled out before the last one. That's a fun series for sure!

We, too, get most of ours from the library. The Cracker Barrel method sounds like a good option, though...especially for more popular titles or recent releases.

If your library doesn't have the title you are looking for ask your librarian if they can get it from another library. I live in a small town so they do not have a very large selection. Do the inter library loan all the time.

For anybody who's a fan of the 80's, or likes sci-fi, pop culture, gaming or adventure stories in general, I'd highly recommend 'Ready Player One'. It's sort of a mix of Willy Wonka meets the Matrix. The book sorta came out of nowhere but was getting great reviews and awards, so I decided to check it out ... just great fun read, especially for the folks who grew up in 80s

I think the audio book is narrated by Wil Wheaton

That would involve planning and not dashing to the library the night before the trip :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
