Attraction effects Disney installed but doesn't use ( w/pics if possible )

The "tiers of bathing beauties" rotated and water rained down from above.

I forgot about that ---

How about the boat ride in AK. They did that after AK opened but it was closed down after a few months.

I rode it in Aug of 1998 and it closed soon after. The park opened on Earth Day of 1998 (April 22) so it was opened more than a few months.;)

The hopping Br'er Rabbit from SplMtn usually isn't working, but I was able to get a photo of it, not a good one though...

I have pics of Goofy waterskiing next to the MK ferry that was taken in May of 1998. I remember the year cause I had just gotten married in Feb. I can't post the pics cause my scanner is broken!

New York Daily! The news boy that got sent to the corner (turned away from the ride guests in SSE. I guess it wasn't worth fixing his animatronics. At least that is the way he was when we visited last year. Any updates on the poor lad?

He was working when we rode it recently but he's still facing the corner. He moves and says "extra, extra, read all about it, civil war's over!"
Did he face forward at one time?

Yes, he stood at the corner and hawked the newspaper facing directly at you. It was this way as long as I remember. Last year I noticed the switch.

1. Mist off the top of Expedition Everest. I read that they stopped using it soon after the attraction opened due to it rusting the parts quicker or that it was effecting sensors on the ride.

I just returned from a trip last week, and the mist was in use. I was shocked as I have never ridden with the mist. It was pretty cool :thumbsup2

In approx 1982, on Main Street there used to be an alleyway off to the left. There were benches with huge arrangements of flowers all around them. Some real, some not. It was just an alley to explore and take pictures and relax. Somewhere there is a great pic of my sister and I sitting on a white iron bench surrounded by masses of colors of flowers. I think they made it a store extension instead.

When we were there in Sept, I was very dissapointed that at the end of Fantasmic all of the charcters didn't ride by on the old fashioned paddle boat. I don't remember Steamboat Willie driving this, just all of the characters at once. I hope it is back!

he still faces away, but now there is a scene of a street, so he appears to at least be talking into a street, not just a blank wall.

Does anyone know why? It seems with the sea of animatronics in SE that it would be a minor thing to fix it. Is that why it's turned around? It looks kind of stupid the way it stands now.

The volume controls on small world have never changed from the high setting. I suppose they felt no need to ever lower the speakers. Thats about all I can think of for unused effects.

Actually if I recall on Dinosaur (back when it was Countdown to Extinction) at some point when the carnotaurus was right near you, you would feel a warm mist which actually smelled horrible...

Awesome thread!!! :goodvibes

I miss the old Viking ship in Norway!! I was so sad when they took that out! Why did they ever take it out? It was a great way for the kids to climb and have fun, plus made a great photo op!!

And maybe I dreamed this but didn't you used to be able to eat on a second floor in Pinochio's Haus?

I read on allears that disney no longer felt the liability was not worth having it there with people being able to climb on it.

I experienced an actual CM in a suit of armor while riding the HM ride at Disneyland many years ago.

While in my doom buggy with my friend, we cruised backwards through the hall of doors as is the process in that ride. Photos peered at us, doors knocked and breathed, and statues stared as usual. We passed by the knight in shining armor when, out of nowhere, he lunged at us -- reaching into our doom buggy and scaring the pants off of both of us!!! Not a fan of anything scary or any incident that causes me to jump, I screamed and yelled, flailing my arms around frantically at the poor actor, hitting him several times. Lucky for him he had is armor on...

I later learned that the "live" knight in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion was only implemented for a few short months in the park's history. The poor knight actors were assaulted numerous times by unsuspecting riders who "freaked out" when approached by this out-of-place character-come-to-life. The live knight was soon eliminated from the Haunted Mansion ride.

While it scared me to the bone -- and I still have a hard time riding through that corridor in the ride with my eyes open -- I am extremely happy to have experienced one of Disney's very brief but impactful park experiences!

OMG - we thought we must have imagined this! DH & I were at DL in 1990 and had this happen. I totally freaked out because the suit of armor kind of stepped out suddenly and swung at me. I was like "but what if I'd been sitting up more or had my arm up or something - it would have smashed right into me!" We realized later that it was actually an actor, not an animatronic, so they could see what they were doing, but it really worried me then!

Have not read the entire thread so not sure if this has been mentioned.

Back in the mid -eighties I remember seeing characters water skiing around the seven seas lagoon including goofy and donald duck. In fact when we were at river country donald duck skied right up on the beach and entertained the guests.

Does anyone remember this and have any pictures?

My DW and I went in the mid 80s and we do have a picture of a character water sking. It wasn't a very well known character, might have been Mr. Smee from Peter Pan. Unfortunally it's not a digital picture so I can't post it.

It's still there!

You enter from the outside of the Haus, using a stairway on the Dumbo side of the building. It's very non-descript. According to the 3D image on Google Earth, it's in the patio area.

Back in the mid 80's (like 86-87) my family and I were at the pool at teh contemporary and Goofy and pinocchio came water skiing onto the beach.
I remember it so vividly because I told pinocchio that if he fell off the skis he would float.
