Attraction effects Disney installed but doesn't use ( w/pics if possible )

They used use doves in a lot of the ceremonies and shows in Walt Disney World but the found out that the hawks that live in the area had figured out what time they would be released and swoop in.

Apparantly this was quite prevalent at the Magic Kingdom. The hawks nested on what used to be Discovery Island and over time learned the times that the doves would be released.

Dove releases were stopped all together.

sounds like they are trying to be humane about it, except Disney still likes to kill off a parent or parents in virtually every kids movie:rotfl2:

"When RnR first opened, didn't the semi truck dart out at you or have his headlights off and turned them on just as it seemed you were about to hit head on?"

Toward the end of the ride there is a sign that says "Watch for oncoming traffic" Originally as you entered that area a set of headlights came at you with horns honking. Hasn't been there in a while and my wife says it never was, but I definitely remember it too.

The Semi you are describing was on TEST TRACK....but not on my last visit 2/09.

curious how i can do a backstage tour of the rides? i have seen people talk about it and was curious

There are several Backstage Tours....One is "Keys to the Kingdom", which takes you backstage in HM. We recently did "The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains", which was also pretty neat. To find out more....go to allears.net and read, read, read! It's a great site!

Great thread! Glad it was bumped!

How about this... I really remember loving the backlot tour when I was in high school. It seemed like there was so much more than there is now (I think it is sort of boring now) :confused3 But my favorite part was seeing the house that the Golden Girls supposedly lived in (the house that was always used in the outside shots). I even remember that the guide told us that the show was filmed in CA but they felt this house was best suited for what their house should look like. I often wonder if that house is still there and they just don't take you by it or if it got knocked down (if so I would be a bit sad). I have pictures of the house but they are not digital and I am too lazy to scan them right now! :rotfl: Just wondering if anyone else remembers this?

No it was there along with a few other buildings. I Also remember that there used to be some of the space ships from flight of the navigator.

As for a PP about the teacups yes there used to be a mouse that popped up out of the tea pot.

After figment there used to be more to the after show bit. There I'm sure were giant paint brushes that you used to virtually paint on the walls?

Also I miss some of the things that used to be in innovations I loved the robots that sketched your picture.

I remember all of the houses and buildings. I have a ton of pics from Flight of the Navigator-are those gone too?!

Yes last time in 2006 they were gone. Seems like all you get on the back lot tour is a view of the back of lights etc and CT and thats your lot. It all seemed much shorter and far less interesting. Such a shame as I was tell my DH all about it before we went on (it was his first time at WDW) and he looked at me like I was crazy after we had been on it.

Does anyone else remember the fire breathing dragon (ok it was more like flames coming out of a cave) to the right off the bridge in AK crossing over into Camp Minnie Mickey? I remember DS being mesmerized by this around 1999-2000 - then after that it seemed to be gone & we've never seen it again.

When DH and I took the Backlot Tour in 2008, there was still the walnut shaped spaceship from flight of the navigator. I have a picture of it at home. I don't know if it is still there now though.

I loved that neighborhood when I was kid and took the backlot tour. I definitely missed it last time. :(

They tore down the houses on the backlot tour to make room for the car stunt show. I loved that part too. The tour is just not very exciting anymore.

The DoorMouse was there, popping in and out of the teapot, when we were there in September 2008 -- is he gone? My kids will be so sad!!

He was there in January '09. Maybe he just breaks a lot!

Side note: I think some cables hanging on the wall used to be a hidden mickey.

I've never seen it on the wall, but I have seen it in different places on the floor before!

Is this still there? I was there in June and in February and looked all over and NEVER saw it! Maybe I was looking too hard, lol.

Speaking of the stunt show, I once saw them do the the WHOLE show, including the ski jets and water explosion sequence. This was shortly after it first opened, but then they quit doing it.
