I saw Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer talking about this on Friday. I rarely see anyone with naturally blonde hair. Mostly, highlighted and colored. They are pretty rare, I guess.

More than likely your DD's hair will darken as she gets older. Hunter's hair was so, so blonde when she was like 5yo and now at 8, it is getting a bit darker. Ask most of the blondes here and we'd tell you we used to be blonde when we were little and then it just darkens naturally (until we take matters into our hands!!)
There are natural blondes out there though.

Very interesting. My father was a blonde, my mother was a redhead. I'm blonde and I have one brother who is blonde. The rest of the kids are either brunette or redheaded.

I can honestly say that I am a natural blonde. I was, of course, VERY VERY light...just about white blonde when I was little.....that changed about highschool.....and it got just a tad darker, but not much.

I help it out every now and then, just because I see some gray coming in as well as drabbiness.....but even if I don't "help it out"......it turns VERY light in the summer(sometimes too light) and darkens in the winter. I probably can go every 6 months or so for coloring....

I am a natural blonde with natural highlights, 7 yr old DD is too. She was white blond when 2-3, more like mine now. Neither one of my parents was a blond as an adult though, I must have got their recessive gene?? People often ask who "highlights" my hair. I simply say that God did !

Im a natural blonde, but I do highlight it with much lighter blonde streaks! I could not highlight it and it would still be blonde.
Unfortunatly so are my eyebrows and I hate that they are so light!!

Tnkrbell.....I know what you mean about the eyebrows!! Mine are so light that you can't see them...looks like I don't have any!! So, I have to color them in with an eyebrow pencil. Have been doing that since 6th grade!! I would NEVER set foot out of the house without my "eyebrows on"!!

I was also born blonde, and as I got older it darkened up.

A little hair coloring can change all that in about 1/2 hour!

Scientists have revealed that in just 200 years time, natural blondes will be completely extinct.

I'm not surprised. I also think that in a shorter time, the caucasion (light skin) will be the minority in this country.

I remember being taught in school that brown hair was dominant and blonde was recessive. I still wonder how these dark haired couples get blonde kids!!

I saw this article too and I wondered if they differentiate between adult natural blondes and children. I was a true blond as a child and I'm now sorta red, blond, brown. I get highlights periodically. I know very few adult natural blondes. Come to think of it, I can't think of one.

From what I remember in college biology 2 dark haired people can have a recessive blond gene each(one brown and one blond). The dark haired gene would be what they exhibit, but the two recessive blond genes could go to a child(one from each parent). If a brown and a blond gene went to the child, it would be brown haired though.
I think that is how I got my blond hair(though parents were blond as a child they darkened as teens), both my parents had a recessive blond gene. Did I confuse matters?

I'm natural blonde. In the spring I highlight my hair with even lighter blonde, then by summer the sun is lightning my hair from being outside, that usually lasts throughout half of the winter.

I agree that the blonde trait is recessive, and so it is possible to have a natural blonde child from parents who don't have blonde hair. I consider my hair to be blonde (it's darkened to a honey color, but it's more blonde than brown), but my mom's hair is dark brown.

I have heard that "real" blondes are people who only have blonde hair on their whole bodies, not just their heads, but I don't see how that matters. People can just keep calling me blonde because I'm not going to let them inspect the rest of my hair.
