Attire for CA Grill

Last August, DH and I went to Cali Grill. As soon as we walked in, we were surrounded by "Jersey Shore"-esque (so sorry to my neighbors in Jersey:goodvibes) young men and women in sequins, 6-inch heels, etc. Is that normal for CA Grill? I had on a nice summer dress and flipflops (my summertime staple) and felt very, very underdressed and self-conscious.

We are going to CA Grill again this summer and I want to be a bit more prepared...perhaps heels? :scared1: I wanted to check in with you all and see what is truly appropriate for this place. I would love to just wear a nice dress and flip flops. The night we were there there was some sort of a private party in the side room...perhaps that was why everyone was so dressy?

Thanks so much!

We usually wear dressier shorts in the warmer months with nice/dressy polo shirts and khakis with collared shirts in the cooler months (2 guys here). Due to the international, eclectic crowd the Contemporary sometimes pulls, Cali Grill tends to have a different crowd than the other Disney resort restaurants. It sounds like the night you were there was unique. We have been there more than a dozen times and have never felt uncomfortable in resort casual at Cali.

Everytime I eat at CG I see an array of clothing. Some people are celebrating so they are dressed up in fancy clothes. I noticed that the vast majority are wearing casual. We've always done kakhi and collared shirts or polos for the men and women slacks and a blouse or sun dresses.

When we were there last August celebrating our anniversary, my DH wore khakis and a nice collared shirt. I wore a nice sundress with dressier sandals with heels. Now we were celebrating our anniversary but in the future when we go again I am sure my DH will wear dress shorts or khakis and I would not feel out of place in a nice pair of slacks with a dressier top.

We did see an eclectic crowd there that night but for me I would feel out of place in very casual attire. I know CG has a dress code but I don't know how much they enforce it.

When I went, the dress was kind of all over the place. There were jeans, dresses, casual clothes, ties, and even a wedding dress.
(I'll be that one in the wedding dress in September, hehe)
I think you can pretty much dress for whatever you are celebrating, or just dress nicer than going to the beach ;) I think you'll be fine either way :)

Don't "overdress" unless you want to--you don't have to!!!!

What is prohibited are tank tops on men, torn clothes, swimwear, and t-shirts with offensive pictures or wording.

ANYTHING else goes.

Mrs U would never, ever wear heels to a WDW restaurant. When we eat at CG (which is every trip) we're in tennis shoes.

Last October I wore nice khaki shorts and a polo shirt, and was worried I was under dressed. Once i got there I'm glad I dressed comfortably, I almost felt a little overdressed.

Thanks to you all!

IMO, heels and D-World just should not be in the same sentence. ;)

A nice sun dress and flip flops it will be!

The entire restaurant was dressed like that? Did you look around at the other tables at least? For signatures (we go to at least 6 a trip for 8 nights), I wear nice dress pants or capris and a nice top. & flat sandals. My DH wears jeans, sneakers and a polo shirt.

I usually go with capris, black strappy flat sandals and a short sleeve shirt. I even wore a tshirt type material shirt that had a really pretty design on the front.

I've worn flip flops with a cute long flowy type sundress at many signatures. They weren't exactly plain flip flops though. I have several pairs of the swarovaski flip flops like these:

I didn't pay near that much for mine though. I got mine from some sellers on ebay that make them for much cheaper. lol

I also have several of the long flowly dresses like the ones from Holy Clothing that I wear. I also got them on ebay. lol The dresses are really light weight so don't take up much room in the suitcase and I like how the flip flops don't really show with the long length. Here's a picture of one:

I've never felt uncomfortable at any of the Signatures.
