Attempted rape reported at Disney Pop Century Resort

I just read about that and it make's me soo mad. I know you really can't be safe anywhere but just the fact that it's Disney makes it ten times worse.

Something is missing from this news report. He reached into her shorts and removed her room key? Since when is that rape; sounds more like a robbery and later an attempted burglary to me.

I'd love to know the whole story and if she had any contact with this guy prior.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Orange County deputies are investigating an attempted rape at Disney's Pop Century Resort.

The victim was walking around the resort around 6:00pm Friday when a man pushed her into some bushes and attacked her. The man also tried to grab her room key from her pocket.

The woman was able to escape, alerted her husband and he and a Disney resort worker searched for the attacker, but he got away.

I tend to agree. There's more to this story they're not saying.

ummmm not rape folks..

Back up the pitchforks and the burning pitch.

That screams domestic.... Even if that is not, there is nothing in that more then someone (stupid mind you) getting room key to steal stuff

does is suck at disney? sure does

Smacks of someone that knew someone though.. That type of crime is done almost always by people that know each other..

OP saw rape in the article so understand his/her post, but read it before you all go crazy and jump to conclusions..

Well, that's what I'm thinking too-there are a lot of unanswered questions here. It could be that this man was attempting to rob her, and the victim thought she was going to be raped. It could be that he really did want to rape the victim, but she got away. It could be a scam to sue Disney. Hopefully the coming days will bring some answers.

It does reinforce an important point that everyone should be aware of, however, which is why I felt it necessary to post the link. Disney is not impervious to the problems of the outside world, no matter how much they try to make guests believe that or guests choose to believe that. Orlando has crime like everywhere else, and tourists can make easy targets. Though Disney does have more Orange County officers and patrols on its properties than others, they cannot be everywhere.

Be alert to your surroundings at all times and protect yourself.

I agree completely with this statement. My DH and I always say "Criminals vacation too."

We feel relatively safe at Disney, but we stay on alert and no one goes through deserted or almost deserted areas of the resorts alone after dark.

I was also thinking some information was missing from the article. I didn't quite understand how stealing someone's room key was rape. It's a poorly written story.

In any event, that poor woman must have been so scared. :( It's terrible to hear something like that happening at Disney, especially at a resort I was recently at. :( I feel bad for her.

Why can't these creeps stay away from our happy place?

It wasn't an attempted rape .... it was some over-zealous @ss trying to grope an unsuspecting female.

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, this whole story sounds fishy and makes no sense to me.

Why would some guy "immediately reach into" her shorts pocket and take her room key? And if he did take her room key, how did she have trouble getting into her resort room later because her "key had been bent in the attack"? Wouldn't she be without her room key altogether because some dude had taken it?

I believe there is more to this story than what was posted.

And if I am wrong, then I apologize for over analyzing the situation. Just my take on the story

The police didn't release the entire report since it's an on-going investigation. There is more to the story then was published in a budget-rate newspaper. Notice the ten minute gap in the story? Okay.

I agree. Sounds very weird.

I've moved this over to the Rumors & News Board. Not really a theme parks topic.

Thanks,

It's "fishy" because the story is both incomplete and it's Orlando Sentinel title misleading.

Why do a majority of people believe EVERYTHING they read in any media (newspaper, TV news, ineternet blogs, etc.) without questioning it's validity first?

On the other hand, why are so many folks willing to immediately dismiss the significance of an assault on Disney property which apparently the Sheriff's office is calling an attempted rape (although the story is poorly written, together with the TV coverage I'd say that's a reasonable inference). Yes, rape victims are often acquainted with their attackers, but apparently these folks were on vacation, so how many folks would she know at Pop Century?

And is it acceptable if it was "just" an idiot trying to grope this woman?

Who's dismissing ANYTHING?

And who suggested it was "acceptable" to do anything (grope, rape, etc.) another person at all? Putting words where they never were to begin with doesn't help one's argument.

Also note, as I said before, the Sheriff's office isn't calling this an attempted rape, the ORLANDO SENTINEL is. The Sheriff isn't calling it an attempted rape because the person who was attacked never said it was an attempted rape.

Again ... somebody entrusts the media to give the truth - which is completely, in this case, skewered.

Lots of folks are dismissing the description of this assault as an attempted rape.

And who suggested it was "acceptable" to do anything (grope, rape, etc.) another person at all? Putting words where they never were to begin with doesn't help one's argument.
You said:

It wasn't an attempted rape .... it was some over-zealous @ss trying to grope an unsuspecting female.
So what's your point with this statement?

Also note, as I said before, the Sheriff's office isn't calling this an attempted rape, the ORLANDO SENTINEL is. The Sheriff isn't calling it an attempted rape because the person who was attacked never said it was an attempted rape.
And you know this how?

Again ... somebody entrusts the media to give the truth - which is completely, in this case, skewered.
First, I'm not trusting the media, but I'm willing to wait to let the facts come out. Clearly the Sentinel story is poorly written, but why jump to the conclusion that the Sentinel pulled "attempted rape" out of midair?

And didja mean to say "skewed"?

So what's your point with this statement?
Just as my sentence stated ... it wasn't an attempted rape but an attempted grope. I never implied or otherwise stated it was any less severe. Any attempt to look into my words to find that is false.

And you know this how?
I know all about this incident. Why and how are not for me to tell a public forum. If you want more from me then that, you're not going to get it.

but why jump to the conclusion that the Sentinel pulled "attempted rape" out of midair?
Again, because I know exactly what's in the police report. For further answers, refer to my previous statement.

And didja mean to say "skewed"?
Nope ... skewered. Seemingly different pieces pushed close together and joined to make a solid object (or thought) upon first glance.
