This is just my opinion and I am not looking for a fight or anything but I have long been a bit wary of some of those paths from the parking lot, unlit and surrounded by much vegetation where anyone could be lurking for whatever ill intent.
Having been on the receiving end of an assault I can tell you that you are not thinking too clearly during or afterward and it can take a bit of time and thinking to clearly sort it all out.
I think it entirely possible that people with bad intentions could come into most any of the resorts (room key ha!!! I use an old one to keep from having to fumble in my bag and have been known to flash an insurance card in a rush) and hide in the bushes, grab a purse and jump back in a waiting card before it could be reported. At some of the resorts it is a short hop off property and stopping for a nice snack while the police are looking is entirely possible.
I had to constantly remind folks not to leave their purses and other valuables on nearby tables when I was there.
I feel safer at Disney World than most any place but bad things can happen anywhere and it is up to us to take some responsibility for our safety. DW is not likely to want to advertise happenings as it is not in their best interests. I do believe that they will and do take steps when warranted though and sincerely hope that some lighting is provided in those parking lot paths.
As for the report, which happened while we were there, we shall see how it comes out. I feel sorry for women who are afraid of reporting such for fear of being called liars and am deeply ashamed and mad at those who do lie and make it harder on everyone else.
