Being able to sit on the veranda at 6:00 am and drink a cup of coffee with the world waking up around me is the best non-park part of the trip Home.

Huh??? We do this at every WDW resort we stay in, that has a balcony. We have enjoyed our morning OJ (we do not drink caffeine) on many WDW balconies while we watched WDW waking up for the day. I totally agree, it is special to sit on a WDW resort balcony at 6:00 am and just take in the magic while watching the world wake up.
Being able to see WDW in it's sleepy, quiet, state; while enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of juice on your resort balcony = SPECIAL

Being able to see WDW in it's sleepy, quiet state; while enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of juice, on your resort balcony, With a WDW park in view = PRICELESS

We feel totally different about having someone wait on us hand and foot, while on vacation. We love this. To us, this is what vacation is all about. We also own a home in a major big city. We are also a family that wants comparable, or more so, than what we have at home.

Just a comment.....I agree this is a nice perk. BUT, we stayed at BWV and our (priceless) view was one of the valet parking lot. MANY rooms do not face the parks----in fact, I think most at BWV face the parking lot and pool areas. I think there are many BCV rooms that don't face the parks as well. If you can secure one, yes, it is a very nice thing.
So, if you're lucky enough to get a park view, then it's a plus. At OKW, we find more consistant chances of getting a very nice view (we were very disappointed with our BWV view). We've never had a parking lot view in all of our many stays at OKW. Most views are water/woods/golf green views. Also, our balcony at BWV was smallish. All 5 of us could not sit out on it and have coffee or breakfast, but at OKW, the balcony is very large and this is a plus for us. So I think there are pros and cons to all resorts. While I respect what you said lobstershanty, I just wanted to give the flip side of this. Just because one stays at BWV/BCV does not mean they can sit out on the balcony and see Epcot.

The BWV villas with a parking lot view, all have a view of parts of FW and TOT. Epcot view is to the left and TOT is to the right. These villas also have a very close up view of the Illumination fireworks.

We saw the side view of TOT only if we stood out on our balcony and looked 90 degrees to the right. Saw nothing of Epcot whatsoever........the main view was the parking lot and all the service trucks driving up and down the driveway.

What villa were you in? We have stayed in many standard view villas that faced the front entrance/parking lot at BWV and all had a partial view of FW and a good view of the fireworks from Illuminations. The effiel (sp?) tower in France is very easy to see from the villas in this location.

We were in 4131. This was a PV room. I was very suprised that the parking lot was considered preferred view, but BW staff and MS assured me it was because I had a view of the canal (water) as well as the TOT (only seen while stadning on the balcony and facing completely to the right, as I mentioned. It was my understanding, later on after returning home and visiting these boards, that people came forward and said I was only a few doors away from being considered "standard" view. Not sure how the BW makes these dividing lines. Again, not meaning to put-down BWV, as our stay there was fun. Just can't say we had any kind of priceless or memorable view. We have enjoyed all of our OKW views over the years over this PV BWV room. Sorry if you disagree, I'm just stating my experience/opinion.

We love them all. I will say that I love being able to park my car close to the door at OKW. I believe that is the case at SSR also. It really just depends on what your dreams are for the particular vacation you have for the visit. OKW is the resort we have visited the most, but they all have their own unique charm. I can't say a bad thing about any of the resorts.

If we really want the above experience we go for the Guaranteed Boardwalk View. Its just a step up from all the rest IMHO.

As MiaSRN62 points out, there's luxury in elbow (and full size table and chairs and other people) room. I've been on those non-OKW balconies....that's why I call them verandahs at OKW. pirate:

And ours is the complete opposite...and people wonder why no one can settle on a new, higher price for point rentals. pirate:

We totally agree! We own at OKW & BCV and love both resorts for different kinds of vacations. In fact, we love all of the DVC resorts.

No luck involved. If you own at BWV you can guarentee yourself a boardwalk view at 11 months.

Concerning dining, you seem to have forgotten about the large number of restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin for the Epcot resorts. From the farthest room away at BWV/BCV's you can walk less than 5-10 minutes and visit a different restuarant every day for your whole vacation, without going into park.

So if you get the worst room at SSR, distance wise, how long would it take to get to DTD, and then how much further to 4 or 5 restuarants? If the closest is 15 minutes away, then it might take 30 minutes of walking? I believe OKW gives you no chance of walking to restuarants.

Eventually we may want to take more meals while staying in, thus OKW and its larger rooms & kitchen will become a more viable alternative. Until then I'll be at Epcot if at all possible.

I thought about that, but it only works if you own there and if you can plan that far ahead. I've heard of even owners having to waitlist (and not get) the BW views. To my understanding, the amount of villas with this view is the smallest compared to other views at BWV. So I still stand by my statement of there's "a chance". I think when you look at the amount of people who probably want this view compared to those who actually get it, I'll bet there's a bigger amount who end up with other views. But true, I think a BW view is great for owners that can plan far out. Even if we did own there, I doubt we could plan that far out most times.

Besides Olivia's.....you're right. Well, I have read of some that did walk to DD (so you can) but I believe it's a 20-30 min walk ? We have not attempted the walk, but prefer the boat ride to DD and all the restaurants there, as I'm sure many SSR guests use this option who are further than a 15 min walk to DD. Besides, with all the walking BWV/BCV guests do to Epcot, MGM, boardwalk restaurants and Swan and Dolphin, I don't think SSR guests mind walking to DD----even if it's a 20 min walk. I've heard it's a very pleasent walk. I think when you add up all the walking guests at each resort does, it's all relative.
We actually walked to the Swan/Dolphin from our BW room a couple years back and it was more like a 15-20 min walk to get to the restaurants vs a 5-10. But maybe we're just slow walkers or perhaps because it was August and like 95 degrees outside ;)
I'm not going to quibble about that because I know BWV/BCV have their diehard fans----just like any other resort. I'm sure there are those that don't mind all the walking (because if you add up 10 min there and 15 min over there over the course of a week plus all the walking one does inside the parks, we personally prefer using transportation---either our car, disney busses/boats). I feel the DD boat launch from OKW/SSR leaves one in a good location for dining. Not much more walking involved to a number of places. So there is a decent choice for close restaurants there after a leisurely boat ride. We've always felt it was very convenient particularily if you're aware of the schedule (and that goes for any resort boat).
Eventually we may want to take more meals while staying in, thus OKW and its larger rooms & kitchen will become a more viable alternative. Until then I'll be at Epcot if at all possible.
We own at OKW and we don't cook anymore than when we stay at other resorts. We dine at Olivia's, the snack bar there, order from outside restaurants to our villa or go to DD. Other times we use our car to drive to other resorts---so convenient with it right outside our door. But then there are those that would say they don't want to step foot in their cars when they're on vacation. For us, we don't mind it and find it a convenience.
It just goes to show, that different things appeal to different people. Nice that DVC offers up a selection.
