Atlantis excursion

Does anyone know if on the Atlantis excursion in Nassau where you tour just the aquarium and the Dig, you would be able to see the hotel grounds without using the pools? I just wanted to get a feel for the hotel to see if I would want to stay there at a future time?

Bumping this up cause I'd like to know as well. Not too interested in the pool or the beach, but I would still like know how much of the hotel you can explore (eg. shops, casino etc.) after the aquarium tour.

WE did the Discover Atlanits excursion in May. Here is the way it went. We met on ship and were escorted outside and give wristbands. From there we walked as a large group just a little ways into Nassau. Then we boreded small buses for driving tour around the town. The bus driver explained some things and showed us some sights like the Queens Staircase and the old water tower. Then he crossed the bridge to Paradise Island. Onces there another tour guide took over and we had to walk (a pretty good distance) to Atlanits. Onces everyone got just outside the hotel we were split up into groups of 15-20. I am not sure how it happend but we lost part of our group at a bathroom break and ended up with only 4 people. Anyway, they show you the grounds, both aquarims, the casino, the lobby and I think a few other things. Then they turn you loose to explore on your own. We were unsure where we were allowed to go with our wristbands, but as we looked around nobody paid too much attention to us. I am sure that there were some places we were not allowed to go, but we didn't do to much exploring once the tour was over.

The buses run every half hour to take you back to the ship and you could just walk back to them when you were ready.

After the tour we were told to go explore the casino or the hotel as much as we wanted. Welcome to shop in their stores( expensive), walk around outside some. You Can't use the pools of course, but people walk all over looking at the architecture of the hotel, it's really fascinating to see. Most people take pictures of the inside, us too. And of course as long as you keep the wrist band on you can go through the aquarium over and over again if you want. The tour does move at a fairly fast pace, so we did go back in at our leisure to see the aquarium again, then the hotel and food, then the shops and casino, then some pictures. It was a very good tour, well worth the money. If you take the water taxi's they run constantly about ever 45 minutes until 5 or 6 in the evening so you can browse around and not worry about getting back right away.

Even though you can't use the pools, are you still able to see them when walking around hotel grounds or outside hotel on the tour?

Yes you will see the pools. Part of the aquarium is actually under a restaurant near the pools. Also you can easily see them from the exit doors at the back of the hotel. You can get pretty close to them before you are asked for ID. But they dont mind you looking, after all they are hoping you'll come back sometime and stay with them. The pools are really awesome to see.

I read here and my travel agent said many people book a room at the Comfort Suites, they have full Atlantis use...and then use the pools for the day. It is about the same price as the tour if you have a family.

Unfortunately as it'll just be the two of us when we cruise, it'll be very expensive to get a Comfort Suites room (unless someone on the boards wants to share, hint hint! ).

But I don't mind missing the pool if I can get a look at the rest of the hotel fairly freely. Thanks for the info guys!

Yes, i have read of people booking the comfort suite hotel next door and gettin pool access. The only problem they have ever said was for the ones who actually wanted to use the room to rest, let kids nap, shower, or leave some of their stuff for the day, sometimes th eroom was not ready until 3 P.M.. So until then they could use the pools at Atlantis, but not use their room until a couple of hours before they wanted to get back to the ship.
We toured the hotel just fine with only our wrist bands from the tour.
