Atlantic Time Zone Question

On the Eastern itinerary does the ship's official time change to Atlantic Time? Does ship's time then match island time at St. Maarten and St. Thomas? I've booked a couple shoretrips.com excursions and they state very clearly to make sure that ship's time is the same as island time.

I remember setting and resetting my watch. The captain actually made an annoucement and reminded everyone to set their watches to "island time" then to set them back after we crossed over. Can someone else confirm this?

Whatever timezone you are in, the ship changes to that time. So yes, you do go into the Atlantic time zone. Make sure you change your watches - if you don't you;ll be late back to the ship and will be watching it leave without you - and that's a sight that no one wants to see.

If you sail the eastern during daylight saving time, there's no time change, since EDT is the same as AST, and DST is not observed on St. Thomas or St. Maarten. During standard time, I believe the ship's clock (and your watch) are set forward an hour on Monday night (possibly Sunday), and back an hour on Thursday night. They're very good about reminding you. There will be a note in the daily navigator, your wait staff will remind you, the cruise director will usually announce it at the shows on the night of the change.

On our last trip to St. Maarten and St. Thomas, they made announcements and put a note in your room about changing your watch and making sure you were back on time. When we were ready to leave both ports, they were calling out about a half dozen cabin numbers and people's names that were not back on the ship. I saw a few flying up in a taxi right as we were leaving.
