Atlantic Canadian WDW Fans

I just checked that out myself.......WOW.......$250 total for the both of us....RETURN !! I can't belive that price.....I wonder if it has anything to do with the tropical storm due to hit within a day or two ?

I'm not really sure. I don't think so though because to fly down on the Saturday and back it's $119 each way. They probably just have extra seats to sell off.

I'm very anxious to hear of anyone who has flown with them to tell us of their experience....

I have read several experiences online before booking our tickets for January. They have mixed reviews. Generally, the people who complain are not happy that they have to pay for their luggage (That's not included in the cost.), pay for drinks and snacks, be at the airport 2 hours before their flight, and sometimes wait a little longer at the baggage carousel. These are all things that I willingly accept for these low prices.

There are some complaints about bad customer service but more good than bad. Some people complained about having to wait a few hours when the plane they were supposed to take had problems. This is a real concern because they have a smaller number of planes. So if the one that's supposed to take you to Florida breaks down, you have to wait until they fly a new one to where you are. Frankly, that's a risk I'm willing to take since we are flexible with our time.

Many people had great experiences and most especially like the fact that the flights are direct.

It's a budget airline. You aren't going to be sitting in the lap of luxury but they will get you to where you are going.

I can see that this would be a problem if you didn't have flexible travel dates. However, we are able to plan our trip around when we can get the best airfare. I think there are probably others who can do this as well.

Definitely. That's us. I think I've seen enough on this board and done enough investigation to warrant driving Halifax -> Bangor next time.

Or perhaps the time after the next, since I've found better ways to get the most of my aeroplan miles. Honestly, the more I research the further I can stretch my budget.

Summary of my favourites:
- fly out of the USA (e.g. drive to Bangor for us)
- take the autotrain
- collect frequent flier miles and learn how to really work the most out of your program (or get tickets, car rentals, etc.)
- volunteer for a timeshare presentation (careful with that one ;-)
- buy annual passes if you go each year and plan your visits within 11 months (not for us, we want to go 2 weeks every 2 years rather than 1 week/year, save on airfare and have a better time)
- reduce the restaurant bill! Big for our family of 5; we save money and cooking time by compromise: lots of re-heating frozen food. Tell me McD's chicken bi-products are much better than the ones from Wal-mart or publix?
- some people enjoy shopping the outlet malls anyway (entertainment for them, to each their own). As long as you watch the exchange rate and get genuine bargins, your vacation could save you money on back to school, gifts for upcoming birthdays, weddings, xmas, whatever. This works for my wife and oldest daughter, while the rest of us tackle the waterslides.
-my kids (ds5, dd7, dd10) really loved some of the freebies (club cool, kidcot) better than the rides. I think because they were more interactive (than getting strapped into a ride) and because you can take you stuff home. Plus, they love talking to the CMs (run-on talking runs in the family I guess ;-)

My thinking on the above is usually incompatible with staying on-site and using the disney dining plan, but there are some ideas out there on making the most of that, if that is what you want.

Any other favourites from fellow Atlantic Canadians?

Seriously check out Allegiant Air. I can't give you my experience with them yet but the cost is too good to believe. About $200 return all the time! That's not a seat sale.

Just checked for November and it was going to cost about $1000 for 3 people.

I have the dates up right now and the prices range from $119 to $209 one way per adult in November. You could get it cheaper than $1000 for three if your dates are at all flexible.

Were not going in November, I just don't think they are as cheap as people think. Even at $119 one way that still is going to add up quickly. And that is before paying for bags nad the added transportation costs to and from Sanford.

Besides Allegiant, the cheapest I've been able to find from Bangor is $230 one way and that was a seat sale. Have you actually found something cheaper or are you just guessing? It would be good for me to know since my parents live in Florida and I travel out of Bangor frequently.

The baggage costs $15 a bag and there are virtually no other fees on top of the price they quote you unless you want snacks.

Also, Mears and other shuttles travel from Sanford. If you check out the website for the airport, there is a huge list. I think it's comparable to the prices from MCO.

We have always found Delta to be the cheapest if you book far enough out. we just returned this past Tuesday and that flight was $189 Cdn, return (that included all the fees and taxes). DW was playing around the other night to check on next summer and she found flights between $800 and $1000 (3 people return) on the legacy carriers.

If you are waiting for those last minute deals, than yes, Allegiant is most likely cheaper. But if you are planning a vacation, this is not always the best option for flights.

That's not actually true. The tickets I'm talking about we booked for January 2009. And they were $99 each one way. Other than Allegiant, the cheapest we could find was with Delta and that was the $230 each one way that I referred to before. Not only that but Allegiant was the only company that offered direct flights to Orlando from Bangor.

What are the legacy carriers that fly from Bangor? I'm just starting to learn what's out there. We've only lived here a year.

Air Transat/CanJet have their prices/times up on their website (transatholidays.com) Going from memory $439?+fees for a direct flight Saturday to Saturday, leaving Halifax at 1ish getting in 4ish Orlando time, leaving Orlando 5ish and getting in at around 10ish at night. Not bad times. Now to see what WestJet comes up with for this winter!

Ted in Hfx, I will let you know the costs. I would also be interested to know the prices to park at Bangor, Portland or Manchester Airports.

Anyone? Anyone?

We wouldn't mind driving straight through and then getting on a plane instead of spending the night. But I expect that the cost will be the same as parking at an airport and at least we arrive at WDW somewhat fresh when we stay overnight.

Four of us are flying from Portland, Maine to Orlando (MCO) via US Airways in September for $834 return!

Delta, Northwest, Us Air, Continental, and Allegiant fly out of Bangor. Whenever we have booked, Delta has always been the cheapest. Their prices have risen lately, but then so have most carriers. We have yet to find that cheap Allegiant fare but we like to book quite far in advance.

Good deal! :thumbsup2

Well, what dates are you looking for? I think you get better deals with Allegiant or any deals if you book in advance (other than last minute deals which we are never able to take advantage of unfortunately :(). As I said, I have never seen one of their flights to be more than a couple of hundred bucks one way so it's always worth checking out.

Were not going again until next summer. I was just pointing out that they are not always the best deal. On this past trip, we tried every airline in Bangor, Portland and Manchester. Delta still had the best deal.

Ok. :confused3 I don't think I said that they always have the best deals? I only found out about them a few weeks ago. :rotfl:

Thank you SO much for sharing this information! We're going on a Disney cruise from the 21-28 of Feb, and all of the flights so far on the return trip were showing up as early morning or early afternoon departures (in other words, not really practical for us). We had resigned ourselves to the fact that we were perhaps going to have to fly out on the Sunday or even do a later in the day flight on Saturday with a stop-over somewhere for the night. Looks like we may just be able to get back Halifax Saturday night after all!!

:cool1:
