Why do people drive the further distance to Portland? Is it just because of cheaper flights?

I found that for booking last minute Portland is cheeper than Bangor. We do a lot of driving so just to add on 2 hours from Bangor is really no big deal.... But there have been times when you pass the exit on the highway for Bangor Airport and you just with that DH wasn't such a cheep :goodvibes But then I think of all the extra money we will have to spend at Goofys Candy Shop.

Hi everyone...so happy to meet other people who share my passion!
Was at WDW this past June and had a fabulous time. Can't wait to go back...already planning for Spring 2009! It's so far away though...don't know if I'll make it...I'd love to meet other Newfoundlanders and Atlantic Canadians who get it...this passion for Disney!

I just noticed that WestJet direct flights from Halifax to Orlando are now available.. Tuesdays to Tuesdays aren't good for us though.

Glad to see there are other Newfoundlanders who understand the attraction of Disney. Was just there in July and don't know if I can wait till next summer to go back. Been checking prices for the last 2 days for the fall.

:goodvibes Hello!
I am from Dieppe NB (no, Im not french...Scottish to the core) ;) WE are driving down to Portland Dec 5th to fly out on the 6th and coming back on the 12th. I didn't get to read much of the latest posts, but I did catch the question as to why one would drive to Portland vs Bangor. Some of the domestic carriers don't fly out of Portland. We just booked our flights through Air Tran and the total for 4 was $750!! Direct flights. HOJos there will do a Park and Fly...just pay for one night's stay ($96) and the parking is free for 2 weeks I think. They get shuttle you to the apo and back.

Plus, we were in Portland just this July and I much prefer it to Bangor. Esp around Christmas for some Christmas shopping. Also we pass Freeport...some outlet shops there ;)

This is our first trip, and we are SO excited! We have a 2.5 and 3.5 yr old and we are celebrating their birthdays there.

Staying at the Coronado Springs Resort.

FOr those who are from NFLD, what part? I have family (who are actually in town right now) from Burin Pen. We think that in June we will be heading that way for a visit. DH and the kids have never been to NFLD. We would be driving over. Driving to Cape Breton is beautiful too...no complaints for the drive that is for sure!!

Ok, this is a novel... glad to have found this thread!!

That is a great price. We are going to have to look into AirTran. Could you tell me which HoJos you booked with?

np and thanks!

I didn't know that there were 2. BUt this one caught my eye when we were down in July. It's not too far from the shopping area, and Denny's isn't far. Love the Denny's breakfast, it's tradition! ;) We are hoping to grab breakfast before going to the airport.

Also, with Air Tran. you don't have assigned seating, you can pay $6 each way per person if you want to select your seat. BUT! You can check in 24 hours prior to the departure of your flight and print out your own boarding passes and select your seats then. So we will have our laptop and printer with us as we are driving down the day before. :)

Direct flights are great with 2 toddlers! :) We bought our ds a replica of a Boeing 737 in Presquisle a cpl weekends back and he cherishes it!

(little excited, can ya tell???)

THe first trip is always special and there is nothing like seeing the reaction of your littles one. Our first trip was just before ds turned 3. Watching him interact with the characters and enjoy himself still makes me very happy and brings a smile to my face when I look at all the old pictures.

Atlantic Canadian Disney Lovers... you are my soulmates! We (family group of 9, includes DH, 2 DDs, 2 DSILs, 2 DGSs, and our very own princess, DGD) are just counting down the days until our Nov 10th trip. DH and I made our first trip to WDW in 1994 with our DDs (17 yrs & 19 yrs) at the time. We've returned many times but this is our first trip back with both DDs, not to mention their families. We are very, very excited.

We'll be landing there with two 3 yr olds and one 4 yr old... it will be a lively trip.

lol that does sound lively! :) We only have one 3 yr old and 1 4 yr old. So we know what you will be going through ;)
That is VERY exciting. This is our first trip down...first BIG trip anywhere (road trips to NH is as big as ours have gotten). A large crowd would be GREAT! I wish our friends and family could make it down with us. Im a big planner...so maybe eventually. I think we are the only people(as they view it...) Crazy enough to go down there. Nobody I know thinks that it is worth the money. This coming from a 2 working parent families..Im a stay at home mom so we are on one income and can afford it.

Nov is coming fast! Im so excited for you! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Trying to convince Hubby we can do a trip to the Rock next year but he's thinking it will cost an arm and a leg.

My plan is to take the ferry to Port aux Basques, then drive to Rocky Harbour. I'd like to rent a housekeeping cottage for a few nights and explore the Park (we normally camp on our vacations but I don't want to drag all that stuff with us and chance weather putting a damper on our vacation....).

Then I'd like to drive across to St. John's with a night layover in Grand Falls-Windsor to break up the drive (anyone with experience at that Glow In the Dark Mini Golf?).

Then a few nights in St. John's with a visit to the Geo Centre, Signal Hill etc..

Then take the ferry home from there (with sleeping accomadations).

We've never been, with the exception of DH's one night trip to St. John's for work where he saw nothing but that one street with all the bars. I'm a planning junky, so have already begun researching and asking around. We have a vacation account I sock every spare penny into and I'm trying to rack up some airmiles points so I can get Delta gift certificates and get gas at Petro Can so I can get gas cards on paoints again. Any PetroCanadas in NFL?

Any help or advice? Cheaper but nice places to stay? Thanks!!

I heard something about PC Calling Cards. I just saw it mentioned and that person was going to DW. So, anyone know why they are so great? We will be needing a calling card I think.

As for the NFLD travel help. WE are going next summer! :) I used to go every summer to visit my Uncle and Aunt when I was a kid. Haven't been there in A long time. It is a BEAUTIFUL drive to Cape Breton. DH and I did that leg (from Moncton) our first year of dating. I am excited to do it again. I remember as a child thinking how awesome the scenery was in NFLD. There is whale watching that is a must for us. Also, visiting Saint Pierre (and Michelon (sp?) ) We will be staying in Marystown...Burin Peninsula where my family is. Where are you from in NS? I have software on my computer that goes with our GPS. I can calculate the gas mileage for you. I set in where you will be driving to and from and all around and pump in the gas mileage and gas prices and it gives you an idea of what you would need for gas.
Im a HUGE planning junkie as well. And the rest of my family is not. Which is going to stress me out! lol I research and plan. My mother just gets her vacation pay and goes. I can't do that!

Another trip I could suggest is New Hampshire. NOrth Conway. If you have never been, it GORGEOUS. And we are suckers for the Super WalMarts. We have 2 toddlers and there are 2 great amusement parks there with lots of rides. The kids just loved them.

If I can offer any help just let me know! :)

For the other Nflders here, I have been looking at Expedia for package deals from St. Johns to Orlando. There giving a big discount considering the cost of airfare again from St. Johns. You can get a flight for 3 people in November, 8 nights on I Drive in a decent hotel for just over $2000. Not including any tickets of course. Or you can fly from St. Johns, stay on I Drive for 4 nights then move over to Disney for 4 nights. I can get this for just over $2700 with a 4 day Disney pass for 3 people. Thats not a bad price I'm thinking. Our first trip in 2005 we spent around $ 3700 to stay onsite at Pop and it was for only 7 days. Also I can get Universal tickets on my Airmiles so thats extra savings there. My main concern is my son would miss 6 days of school. He's in grade 5 now so the workload is getting bigger.

Just booked this week for Nov 4th to 12th. Got the flights for $484 each with Westjet from St John's to Orlando and booked at POR with 8 day park hopper and meals for $3200 for 4 of us. Kids are in grades 8 and 11 and being the fourth year we have taken them out of school for a week, we never have any problems with the schools and the kids always do the extra work to catch up either before we go or as soon as we get back. Love this time of the year for the lower crowds and the lower temperatures (compared with Florida summers).

I almost booked for that same price only on from the 10-18th. I kept holding off and kinda let it slip away. Our problem is we have to come from the west coast as its too expensive to fly from Deer Lake, but then that ends up being 2 extra nights hotels in St. Johns plus the gas expense. Its not cheap either way. You got a good price there though with meals and all.

Hello everyone. Just checking to see how my fello DW groupies are doing. :)

Seems like the weather is getting cooler. Gets me excited. I have been waiting all year for October to come. oct goes by SOO fast. And then Nov will be planning and packing. :):)  I CANT WAIT!

I do hope we get a late start to the snow!!

Hey is there anybody out there who lives in Halifax Dartmouth area that can tell me if there are any sales on at the Disney Store? I miss that store so much! :(:(
