Atlanta - 32 min layover long enough? (Airtran)

I'm looking at booking Airtran for BOS to JAX. There is a plane change in Atlanta - layover is only 32 minutes - will that be long enough? I've only flown Airtran once (non-stop) and have never stopped in Atlanta, so I need help figuring out if this is a decent choice or not.

I would not do it especially if going through Atlanta. If you are just a few minutes late leaving Boston or there is a wait at the gate to unload in Atlanta you will never make it. You should have 1hr at least especially if connecting through Atlanta.

We have a 45 minute layover there next month. 32 minutes might be cutting it short, but it's doable. Don't stop once you get off the plane! Most of Airtran's planes fly into Concourse C...a few on D. It's an easy move between the 2, and even easier if both planes are in the same concourse.

Is it just you or do you have kids, etc. with you?

Wow. I wouldn't do it. As a pp stated sometimes you come into a different concourse in Atlanta. That happened to us last year. We had an hour and 20 minute layover and our flight into Atlanta was delayed (so what's new!). To top it all off, both flights used the gate at the very end of different concourses. We made our connection but not by much. Is there any way you can avoid Atlanta?

We will be a group of 8 - a Girl Scout troop trip, so 6 will be 13 year old girls! Airtran has the best prices right now to Jacksonville - but all stop in Atlanta; there is another Airtran flight that leaves Boston a little later, it has a 4 hour layover, which I was thinking was a little too long.

Jet Blue has a better schedule, but higher prices to go with it. I guess we'll have to decide whether we have enough money to go with Jet Blue or if we book the Airtran with the 4 hour layover!

Definitely not enough time!! We flew Airtran with a connection through Atlanta and left our departing airport late. When we got to Atlanta we only had 20 mins til our connecting flight departed and the rep waiting as we got off the plane said their was no way we would make it. So we had to sit at the airport for almost 3 hours while waiting for the next flight to Tampa.
I never book a layover under 1 hour.

I think 45 minutes is the "legal" connection limit for ATL, so no, 32 minutes is not long enough.

Don't even think of doing it! They start loading the airplanes at least 30 minutes prior to departure, which means they will be in the final stages of boarding by the time you make it to the plane. If you make it. If your original flight is a little late, or you have to circle a bunch before landing in Atlanta (which happens a lot!) you will be done for.

Looks like I found the AirTran flight Number 273 out of Boston and according to this website it is ontime 78% of the time and average delay is 18 minutes to give you an idea. The same stats apply to connecting flight being late departing Atlanta but it's too close for my comfort level. I have missed connecting flights with a 45minute layover.

What do people think about a 40 minute connection in Baltimore? We had a non-stop, but no big surprise, we now have a connecting flight through Baltimore with a 40 minute lay-over. Will they move bags and us in time to make the next flight? Flying on a Friday, mid-day, out of Boston in April.
