Ok everybody- I want to make homemade chicken soup for dinner, but I have no idea how to count the carbs in it?? Any suggestions? I will put some carrots and some tomato in it, along with onion, celery, turnip and parsley, but won't actually eat the carrots or tomato if it will throw me out of the beginning stages of ketosis. So- is it ok to make the soup with that stuff in it, should I wait until induction is done or can you send me a site where I there's some kind of a calculator that helps calculate carbs for instances like these?
Also- why I'm on the subject of carbs. I noticed on Atkins carb counter list that he has olives as having carbs. According to the info on the side of my green olive jar- it says that there are 0 carbs. Which do I take to for counting?

Thanks everyone!

Karen

Oh -- and by the way -- I LOVE chicken soup (and don't have any dinner plans!).;)

When I make soup, I basically put in the veggies that I would have in my salad that day - and skip the salad!! You can have onions, broccoli, zucchini, tomatoes, celery, cauliflower, etc. I'm pretty sure that chicken broth is carb-free!

Jody...you are always cracking me up!!!! LOL

Karen...sorry I cant help you..common sense would tell you that it shouldn't be to high...maybe skip the carrots because they are high in carbs...but other than that I have no idea..

Karen, how did your soup come out?? I am dying to find out how it tasted!! :):) How about an update?? :)

If you're going to make up your own recipes a lot, you might want to look into getting a software program called MasterCook.

It will let you enter custom recipes (or copy & paste them off the net!), and will give you a nutrional output for any recipe (including carbs, fiber & a ton more).

I bought the Betty Crocker set at Circuit City for just under $20. I've also seen it at Best Buy and Target. You can get more information here: http://www.valusoft.com/products/mastercook.html

I LOVE my MasterCook! :)

The soup was DELICIOUS- and just what I wanted! Thank you for asking beanie! And dizneegirl- thank you for the software idea- that is EXACTLY what I need! VERY VERY GOOD!
And or course, thnak you to everyone else that gave me info- it did help me yeterday in firguring out the carbs.
