Hey, when's the game? Hotels fill up FAST. We liked the Country inn and Suites but it's a bit far to walk to UGA. Parking will be at a premium near the university, so if you stay at a hotel further out, you'll still have to pay to park somewhat close and you'll have to walk to the stadium. Lots of places charge $10-20 per car to park for the day depending on how far away from UGA they're located.
The Holiday Inn and the Hilton are within walking distance. Depending on your stamina, the Days Inn and the Best Western are kinda close. I'd be willing to walk to those two, but it's a bit of a hike if you're out of shape or don't have the time. I've stayed on the Best Western once or twice when I was in a bind; it's across the street from the Varsity if that's on your to-do list. Personally, it's not my favorite. The doors open to the outside and it's been fairly rowdy and loud. For me it was hard to get a good night's sleep.
Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Indigo are all downtown and within easy walking distance to campus. I always stay at Holiday Inn when I go to Athens (several times a year). It's not luxury, but still very nice.
There are no hotel rooms left in Athens for any of this season's home games, though. I've been trying to find one so I can tailgate and enjoy the atmosphere!
You can get a room in Commerce, which is about 20-25 minutes away.
We love, love, love Athens. I can't think of a better college town. Not too big but big enough to have a very active social scene. We always stay at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn when we can get a room but it books up fast. You can walk to the game and also walk to all of the downtown restaurants and bars. I agree though that all of the rooms are probably gone for this years home games. My husband always calls the day that rooms first become available for reservations but sometimes gets shut out.
Our fallback is the Hampton Inn but we even had trouble getting it for the UGA/UT game a few weeks ago.
Thanks for all the help. We are going to the game on 11/22 against Charleston Southern. I was able to get a room for 2 nights at the Hampton for $91 military rate. Started to get worried I wouldn't find anything.
I have stayed at UGA Hotel & Conference Center at the Georgia Center down on Lumpkin St several times. It's about a mile from all the downtown action and it has shuttles to various places. I'm sure they would provide shuttles to and from the games. The hotel is clean and spacious. There is a parking deck, which is free for guests. There is no pool on-site, but they will take you down the road a 1/2 mile to the UGA swimming center, if you like.

The Hampton is fine. My in-laws used to stay there when we lived in Athens. Eat at Mirko Pasta and Keba. They're local Athens chains, and I miss them so much!
