At what point is 2 UY worth it?

I understand the appeal of multiple home resorts for folks, but at what point does it make sense to have a second UY?

We have our "week" at Disney every year - usually March or May and we have enough points for that.

We also usually go in November though, and our December UY is obviously not a great way to have points books over Thanksgiving time...

I know two UYs would be a big hassle... but losing points, if we ever needed to cancel would be a pain and sadness....

Would it make sense to do one say, September UY and One December?

I like all the points being in one place though... and I believe they even limit transfers when you own all the points....

We have multiple UY for this exact reason. The bulk of our points are in Aug because we do most of our travel from September-January. We have a small Feb UY contract because we like to do a F&G trip but can’t always make it so we need some flexibility for cancelling. It works out well for us.

There are a lot of people here who successfully manage multiple UY, but we only have one. You can only transfer points once a year and there are some limitations, that I'm sure someone else will chime in with.

Also, I believe there is not a lot of September inventory. So it can be harder to find and could take longer to sell in the resale market.

I would only do it if you didn't need transfers or don't want to transfer your points regularly between the use years. Otherwise, it's really not a big deal. Also ideally the use years would be at least 4 months apart. The other stuff that's slightly annoying would be that travel insurance only covers one membership unless you pay again for the second. It is nice having access to extra waitlist requests though.

yes, the idea would be keep the November trip in its own UY and buy enough points for that...

If you visit regularly and check the DVC portal fairly often, it's not a big deal. You can set an iPhone reminder each year about your banking deadline. My three qualifiers: (1) you need to visit a Disney resort at least twice a year (one for each UY--otherwise what's the point?) (2) Your two UYs should help with priority bookings at different times a year that matter to you. Aside from my AUL points (long story--but I plan to use those only at AUL, as the dues are kinda high for them), the vast majority of my points are SEP/MAR. And (3) you need to have enough points in each UY for full vacations--otherwise it becomes somewhat tricky (but not impossible) to capture rooms for, say, a week, especially during peak periods. Each of my MAR/SEP UYs has between 400 and 500 points.

I have two Uy for this exact reason. We are a drive away and do monthly weekend trips - two use years is essential for flexibility. We don’t do long expensive stays so separate points isn’t an issue. Our Sept use year banks April 30 so our June UY is good - only May is a no man’s land for us and due to work we don’t go in May.

So…frequent short trips - get two UY is my advice.

This is exactly why we have multiple ones. We make reservations strategically so they are always in the banking window for whichever membership we use.

Perfect situation for multiple use years.

It’s hard to picture our family using DVC in the summer or fall outside of Aulani or Hilton Head, so one use year (December) covers us in most scenarios. And if we have to risk some distressed points every five years, we will!

If I break my rule and buy more points they would be
1. resale ( so no good at RIV )
2. not in WDW
3. enough for a full vacation
So I would get the best deal / UY for the season I intend to use the points.
