At what point do you need to call "WDW Group Dining?"

What is the cut off? For one meal ('Ohana or Chef Mickey's) we will likely have 8 people dining. Five adults, three kids under age 11. Will we need to make this reservation through Group Dining?

Also, 2 of us will be on the DDP, but 6 will not. That isn't a problem, right? We just tell the waiter who is on the DDP and get a separate 'check' for our dining, right?

Normally more than 12 requires using Group Dining.

However, if all eight of you are staying on property, and all are age three or older, you qualify as a Grand Gathering. This will allow use of a special number for dining reservations and also access to certain meals that are not otherwise available.

And, yes, separate checks are never a problem. Just be sure to let the server know up front as it is faster to process rather than trying to adjust everything at the end.

We had 11 in our party this year (staying in 5 separate rooms) and I did all of the reservations through the regular dining line.

It was never a problem getting separate checks.

Parties of 12 or more require that you call group dining. When you are seated for your ADR, you can ask the server to split the checks.

When we were there last week, part of our party was on DDP and the other part used TIW. We never had any problems getting the checks split. Have fun!

We are all staying on site, so what would it mean for us to do a "Grand Gathering" would it be anything special, or would it be just as easy to call regular dining to get the reservation?
