I have a 10 y/o DS & a 4 y/o DS & I'm still waiting for the day that they sleep through the night!!

My 10 y/o suffers insomnia & my 4 y/o, as soon as he wakes up he just wants me to go to him so he just stays in bed & screams "MAMA! MAMA!!" I go running so that just in case my 10 y/o has finally fallen asleep, I don't want him to wake up! My 10 y/o will wake me to tell me that he can't fall asleep. I wish I could be more compassionate when he wakes me out of a dead sleep at 230am but I'm not the best Mom in the world at that time. :(

My daughter slept through the night at around 11 months if I left a milk bottle in her crib, if not she would wake at 2ish for a bottle. I would put in her bed around 1 ish and she would be fine. The she hit a horrible patch at 16 months when she was up every night for 2 months wanting to play from 2-4 am. she would scream hysterical and there was no way to calm her. I ended up letting her sleep in her vibrating rocker every night in the living room and when she woke up I would stick Barney in the DVD player and she would watch it for an hour or so and then finally pass out. I spent 2 months sleeping on the couch next to her! It stunk! We finally got her a bed at 18 months and she has been sleeping through the night ever since ( unless she is sick ( she has a cold right now and has been up at 2 am for the past 3 nights!)

Madison did about 8 hours stretches starting at 6 weeks old, BUT that all ended around 4.5 months when she started waking up at night again and didn't still till, well, hmm, she'll be 2 years old this month and still wakes up during the night sometimes. Most nights she'll sleep through for about 9 hours or so, but at least twice a week she is up at least once, usually just to climb into our bed cause she hates sleeping alone. My dr said it was abnormal when I told her my daughter she woke up a few times a night at 9 months old but hey, what are you gonna do? We tried CIO for 3 weeks when she was 8 months old and she'd cry so hard she'd vomit so that ended that. We kept thinking "tonight she'll have given up" but no, she never did, made it through 3 weeks of that when we finally realized she was not ready and quit. Made us all much happier. Of course I still hope this next one is a better sleeper!

Right around 7 weeks. I remember hearing/reading somewhere that babies can start sleeping through the night once they reach 10 or 12 lbs.

The doctor told me something similar...and my DD11 slept thru the night at 6 weeks old, and she was 9.8 lbs. at birth so we weren't really that surprised.

I envy those of you who know what sleep is. I have so many bags under my eyes that I can store my luggage there when I go on vacation. :rotfl2: DD 11mo has always been one to get up during the night multiple times. In the beginning DH and I had shifts and DD was great about waking up at specific times. We did luck out at 4.5 months where she slept through the night until 6 months, when we moved. Since then she hasn't slept through the night. In fact the only time that I have had a full nights sleep was in November when my parents came for a visit and took her for the night.

Sleep is a wonderful thing that I would love to experience again, and hopefully someday soon!!!!!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that's her b-day present to me.

but do you remember that first night they slept through? you actualy wake up (you are not woken up) and almost forget parenthood until the fear grips you-"OH MY GOD-WHY DID'NT THE BABY WAKE ME UP??????". :rotfl2:

My first son started around 8 weeks. My second son was closer to 4 months, but I don't remember exactly.

My 1st DD started sleeping all night (I consider 11:00 to 6:00 am all night) at 12 weeks (she did once or twice at 8 weeks.)

However my 2nd child woke every 2 hours for the 1st 12 months of her life. Maybe 6 times in the 1st year of her life did she sleep more then 4 hours. That meant I never slept more then 4 hours (and in most cases 2 hours, and most of the time I couldn't get back to sleep myself.)

Around 14 weeks old she started sleeping consistantly through the night.

We did have to let her cry it out. Even now if she wakes for some reason in the middle of the night (is sick), and I nurse her, she will wake the next night at the same time. I have to leat her cry it out.

She had food allergies (milk and eggs.) It wasn't until I got the food 100% out of her and mine diet (it took longer to get out of my system and it was hard to do, some foods I thought were safe, like soy cheese wasn't.) Anyway around 14 months old we got her allergies under control, and she started sleeping better. Her sleeping good (and still being able to nurse her, is worth giving up all the milk and eggs in the world.

The good news is she is great about it now. She goes to bed (and nap well) and sleeps good. If she wakes I need to let her cry it out. So hard to do when she is sick (I admit I don't normally, what if she has a fever?) She normally sleeps 8:00 pm to 8:00 am now.

Anyway, good luck :goodvibes. Hang in there. Belive me I know how hard it is. Sometimes I still can't sleep. I hear her crying in my dreams. I have to open my eyes to be sure it is just in my mind. :goodvibes

barkley, :rotfl: with my 1st DD I would wake and want her to wake up and eat (because my breast were about to explode.) However, this was never the case with my youngest.

DS was 5 weeks old when he started sleeping through the night and DD was about 12 weeks old. I thought it was so hard with her not sleeping all night until she was that age, but quickly learned how lucky we were since most babies were months and months old and still waking at night. A coworker has a 2 1/2 year old who still doesn't sleep all night. I don't know how she survives. Her son is up at least twice a night.

DD was 6 weeks, DS was 8 weeks, but with DD we had problems a couple of months later with her not wanting to stay asleep once I put her in her crib. That took about a week to straighten out, then she was fine after that.

Oh Yeah I kept waking up and wondering why he wasn't crying! His baby monitor was sensitive so I could hear him breathe.

He slept 6-8 hr stretches at about 6 weeks. This was also the time he went from our room in the bedside bassinet to his own room in a crib. I think that helped b/c DH and I are noisy sleepers(he snores and I talk). We also never tiptoed around a sleeping baby and till this day he can fall asleep anywhere. In fact when we were in Disney he would often fall asleep durring a parade or fireworks, and once in the TIKI Room! :teeth:

He does like to sleep with a sippy cup with water in it. I am not proud of it and was hoping to break this at 12 mos. But with all the cross country evacuating we had to do I didn't want to traumatize him too much. Now that we are home that and his toddler bed are my next project. He sleeps really well in his toddler bed, except that he will get up at midnight and see his toys, and will get up to play, so we are still trying to work that one out.

Good luck!

My youngest will be six this month and has sleep through the night 3-4x total. He always goes to sleep in his own bed but ends up in our bed. He had his tonsils out last may so at least he is quiet and somewhat still now when he sleep with us. Hopefully someday he will decide to stay in his own bed..

My son is about 6 months old he just started sleeping through the night about 2 weeks ago. It was around the same time we started him on solids. He now sleeps most nights from 8pm until 4 am and then goes back down after a snack until 7. Good luck to you. We all know how hard it is but you will get through it. pixiedust:

DD#1 didn't sleep thru the night until 13 mos. She woke up every 2 hours for 13 whole months! I thought I was going to go insane. :teeth: Dd#2 still hasn't slept thru the night and she's 4 mos old. I'm (im)patiently waiting for her and praying that it's not another 9 mos for me!

When my twins were born I put them in the same crib together but soon found out that my son DID NOT want to sleep! my daughter would constantly be woken up by him so we actually moved her to another room. My son took 3 years before he slept through the night! now, they both sleep like logs!

dd slept through the night from day one. I guess when you are born over 9 lbs. you don't need the nightly snack. LOL!!!! :teeth:

My first one slept through the night from about 5 weels. He was 10 lbs 4 oz so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.Then when he moved to a big bed he discovered that he could get in bed with us and did so until he was 7 yrs old.It did not bother us as long as he went to sleep on his own.

Second was about 4 mths old.Probably would have been sooner but he was in the hospital several times and it disrupted his schedule.

My third was a few weeks old.

Then there is #4.She will be two in March and has only slept through the night a few times. She goes to sleep fine but sometime between 1:00 and 4:00am I hear "please move mommy" and she climbs in.I would not mind but she never stops moving and kicking and every time her pacifier falls out of her mouth she wimpers until she or I put it back.I am thinking of taking the pacifier and see if she sleeps better.
