Hi

Started a discussion with a girlfriend about traditions at a bridal shower.

She is Jewish and was telling me that at each bridal shower the groom :groom: normally gives a gift to the bride (such as lingerie).

Never ever heard of this!! So I started asking anyone I spoke with yesterday and I am finding out that it is common with Jewish, Greek and sometimes Italian cultures.

What about you? When you attend a bridal shower does the groom normally give the bride a gift?

After 27 years of marriage I am now finding out that I was jipped!! :rotfl:

Thanks!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!! :earsboy:

Gypped here, too. Groom showed up at end of the shower to express thanks (and help load up the goods) but no gift from him at shower. Bummer. I think I'm going to have to complain tonight -- poor Daxx is going to be in the dog house!

Maybe it's a regional thing? Have been to several bridal showers lately (Jewish, Italian, Polish, German) and have not seen this tradition at any.

Apparently, it is a tradition in some cultures/towns/etc. My co-worker's son is getting married. His fiance is from upstate New York (they are living elsewhere). They all travelled to upstate New York for the shower. At the end of the shower, the groom was "supposed" to bring a bouquet of flowers to bride. He didn't know this, no one told him, and it seems that the group of women at the shower were dismayed/shocked/peeved that he didn't show up with the requisite flowers.

I told him that this was the first of many mistakes he was going to make.

I've never heard of it, but I certainly wouldn't want to open a gift of lingerie from my fiance in front of my mom.

Poor guy!! What you told him is TOO TRUE!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No gifts from the groom at any showers I have been too...Italian, Polish
though when you mentioned a bouquet...I may have seen that a couple of times when I was a child.......

I agree.....I am going to have a talk with my DH...it's been 17 years but I think if he trys real hard he can make up for it!! HAHAHA

(And I think my DS 11 will have to remember to bring flowers to his bride at their shower..... :rotfl: :rotfl: )

Giving a bump for the evening crowd!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!!

Ok, I've had two showers in the past month and a half and he got me nada! There's one on Sunday though, he can make up for it then! I would find it weird if he gave me lingerie in front of anyone....I'll answer more on this in a bit probably, but nope, never heard of it! It's hard enough to get him to do the "last minute appearance" without flowers!

Well my husband is Jewish and I am Greek, and I have never heard of this one.

I understand that couples-showers that include men are becoming more popular, but I've never heard of the groom giving the bride a gift at THEIR shower.

Moreover, I cannot imagine any groom giving his future bride a gift of lingere IN PUBLIC. I thought that lingere showers were always female-only.
