My son (age 23) only wants an iPhone for Christmas. Unfortunately, he's not due for a new phone until next October. Do you think if I went to the store and talked to them I might be able to get one for him? (Tears could be involved.) I feel so badly, because it's all that he's asked for.

Any thoughts, schemes, etc., to accomplish this?

Thanks,
Edie

You can buy one, just not at the fully discounted price. I did this for my son last weekend.

AT&T will be happy to sell you a new phone. But for the full retail price. You can upgrade your phone at anytime during your contract, as long as you are willing to pay full price. New phone eligibility is mainly to lower the costs of new phones, and get you to extend your contract another 2 years or so.

Are you eligible for an upgrade? If so, you can always purchase the phone as your upgrade, then have AT&T switch the phone to your son's number.

You also have to pay the activation fee on top of the fully priced phone.

However I do not know how much you are discounted when your contract comes up so I can't compare that. I don't have an I-phone.

OH, I did this. you can upgrade at anytime! you just have to pay the full price. My dates are in Dec. well, back in June the new iphone came out, I got it but paid full price.
