At MK today! FP+ lines backing up like crazy

we were there today, and even though the fastpass lines looked long, they were short. it never took us more than 7-8 minutes to get through the fastpass lines to the ride. this was early afternoon, space mountain, BTMRR, and Jungle Cruise. Waits were all over 60 minutes standby. Problem was people were just extremely slow scanning their magic bands or passes. People keep commenting on how crowded it was today in the MK, but I truly think it was a weather issue, more than a 3 days weekend. wednesday and thursday were horrible weather wise, 50 and downpouring rain. we ended up going to see movies on wednesday and were at the parks thursday, and nobody was in the parks. completely deserted. every single thing was a walk on, so everyone came out today because it was beautiful. probably the nicest day you could possibly get.

I agree. I was at EPCOT today and it seemed even more crowded than last Saturday and that was a race weekend. I think it was the change in weather.

Yep, this. And some attractions, like POTC, were not built with FP+ in mind, so those lines get particularly clumsy. This is not a big deal, but it needs to be fixed/revised at some point.

I actually think this is a very big deal.

Can someone who was there elaborate on what the first few hours the park was opened were like? My friends and I will be there a week from Sunday and only have till 12:15 to get everything we want to get done (not trying to do everything but would like PP, SM, TM, HM, Pirates, and JC). With the first fastpass+ return times being 9-10, I'm worried about what the early hours are going to be like, as typically we could get a lot done during these few hours.

Today's experience reinforced our belief in rope drop. The park was so calm and few people until 11. If they get an early start they will do the best to see what they want

We were Thursday at the mk and it was not deserted. In fact it was more crowded that TP predicted.

This would not have worked yesterday (Friday). Rope drop was more crowded than I have ever seen it (and I've done Xmas week). 30 min into park opening, jungle cruise was 30 min POTC was 25, ISW was 25. I think a huge problem is the local crowd variable. We talked to several people on the boat ride from WL that were just coming for the day (that's a whole other topic for discussion). After we did our fast passes, we took a break at the resort and went back after dinner. Everything was a walk on. Its been a hard long winter up north and people want an escape and think hey let's go to WDW!
