My husband and I were married at Disney waaaaayyyy back in May. We had planned to have a reception over the summer, but we just didn't have the cash. Now, we have some money and thought maybe it would be a good idea to have a reception on Halloween. It would be like a Halloween party/reception. What do you think? We are kind of torn as to what people will think. I have relatives that don't know I'm married, but we don't want people to think we just want gifts.

Thanks for the input,

If you want to have a party, then have a party;) Don't worry about what people will think!

We were going to have an at-home reception in the summer after our Feb. wedding. Note the "going to" part... We never did it mostly because we would've had to have 2 parties for family purposes, we were worried about it looking like we just wanted gifts, we never sat down and figured out the logistics. Excuses, excuses - we did get presents from everyone anyway and we never got our party or a chance to celebrate with everyone. Not a huge regret, I just wish we would've actually *done* something.

Those are my 2 cents, hope it helps

:D

I dont think theres anything wrong with having a party!!! I say go for it, if thats what you want!

I say have the party. It'll be fun to celebrate with family who wasn't there on your big day. Don't worry about people thinking that you are looking for gifts. Just have fun!

we'll be having a reception at home (4th of july weekend) and its a party to celebrate our marriage, not to recieve gifts. if you want to have a halloween reception then go for it!

We are getting married this month (Oct.) in Disney (which is coming up way too fast...) and then we will be having a reception at home in Mich. in probably February. So far we have mentioned this to most of the people who would be invited to the reception and they love the idea. We're just having a small wedding (only about 10 people) in Disney so everyone who couldn't come is actually looking forward to coming in Feb.

We're going to wear our wedding clothes again too,,and we will be playing our wedding video and having a picture slide show as well, that way everyone who wasn't at the wedding will get to see us get married anyway,,*smiles*.

I had a friend who was married in hawaii and did this as well and I was more than happy to go to her wedding pary afterwords.

I agree with everyone else, go for the party! Have fun and who cares what everyone else thinks!

We got married on Sept 8th and are having our at home reception on Oct 30th most people seem really exicted about it since they couldn't come to the wedding. I say go for it, but you do need to decide now b/c your running out of time.

Our Wedding is on the 16th March but were not having a party until two weeks after we get back from Florida.

You shouldn't worry about what everyone else thinks.

I'm even going to wear my dress.

OK I agree with everyone else however..........

we're human and we can't help but think about what others may think so to be sure that their is nobody out their (i.e. some of your guests) why not do a little newsletter with the invite talking about your wedding with a piccy and there or elsewhere just stick a note saying something like ...

"We hope you'll be there and don't even think about getting us a gift your gift is coming to celebrate with us"

LOL you'll still get those who insist on getting you a gift anyway ;)

Jaime,

this maybe a selfish question but how did you guys still get gifts. Did you send out announcemnts noting you registered?

Brooke

I think its a good idea personally.

We are getting married on 15 December in Florida (we are UKers) but we are not having our reception party for family and friends until March.

We have asked for gift vouchers if anyone wants to participate, didn't feel right sending out a gift list and anyway we have been living together for over 3 years so we have a house and everything that goes with it.
