We will be there in two weeks, were the bugs bad at the pool, the beach or at the rooms? I know the noseeums like us alot too!! What about jellyfish is there a season there for those?

I noticed the bugs just about everywhere. Saw alot down on the beach. Also, saw alot out on the pier at Harbour Towne. They really do hurt when they bite you. As far as jellyfish, we didn't see any at HH, just here in Myrtle Beach. First time I've ever seen any washed up like that. I remember stepping on one when I was a kid and it sure hurt like the dickens. They can sting even when out of the water.

Is Tony Roma's the one over by the harbor? If so, we ate there as well last time and didn't really enjoy it either. And I don't remember our service being very bad , but not very good either.

Thanks for the post about the bugs. They may be worse this year b/k we have had such a mild winter. I sure hope they go away before three weeks gets here, but I doubt it. We'll be taking the spray!

Thanks for all the posts. We will let you know how our trip goes! Taking our nephew with us so he, along with my crazy son , should make for an interesting trip!

Tony Roma's is on the right as you head towards Sea Pines. It's not far from the DVC resort.

Wouldn't you know it, we woke up in Myrtle Beach this morning to an absolutely beautifull day. Why couldn't we have had this weather the first of the week. Oh well, that's the great thing about being retired, we can go back when we want; that is if we have the points.

DW and myself have had alot of discussion lately about when we want to go back to HHI and have basically decided to do the first week of June each year. Unfortunately, most of the time we will be staying just in a studio as we only have 80 HHI points (also have 150 VWL points). And if we want to stay 6 nights, first week of June that takes 83 points. I guess we could stay in a 1BR like we did this year, but I would have to use our VWL points and then you get into the problem of 7 month window and we all know how hard it is to get a 1BR at 7 months. We were talking we sure wish ALL our 230 points was at HHI. Oh well, we just had no idea we'd like the place so much.

Have a great time at mb. last year we bought a week at the new myrtle beach marriott resort at grand dunes. We love hh so much that we decided we wanted a week each summer at the beach. If you have a chance, check it out. We leave in a week for 6 nights in a 2 bedroom at hh. We own at the bw and bcv but hh is our favorite. it was great reading your reports. Hopefully the good weather will continue for a couple of weeks.

Hey Wolfie! Still checking in on your thread? Since you watched TV on your vacation, I hope you know the answer to this.....They have Fox, right? A girl's gotta have her 24, no matter where she is on Monday!

Yes, they do have Fox. Actually, they have a pretty good selection of cable channels.

Wolfpack, if you don't mind me asking, how much do they charge for Internet access at the resort? Did you bring your own laptop or do they have a place with computers set up? We will be there in July and I was thinking of taking an online class this summer. Would love to do it -- posting while on vacation!

Internet access is not available thru the resort itself nor do they have access to any computers you can use. You can connect your own laptop using a dial-up service such as AOL however. The way I connect though is to use my cell phone as a modem for my laptop. It's called "tethering" and you have to have a phone like a Treo 650 (which I have) for it to work. It gives much faster connect times than standard dial-up.

Hi again, we are down to one week :cool1: and I have a couple of questions left...At the beach house and the pool are there towels?? Will I need to bring towels for the beach or can you use the ones from the beach house? What about chairs ...are there chairs on the beach ?? Do you rent them or are they there for our use ?? Should I bring my own chairs? Are there snacks at the beach house for us or should we pack a cooler?? Thank you for all of your great info!! :)

coffman6: There are pool towels at the beach house. If I was going to the beach, I would take beach towels though, the pool towels are just too small, IMO. There is a snack bar at the beach house, when I was there a few weeks ago, it had limited hours. They have sandwiches, drinks, fries and ice cream novelties. There are chairs to rent at the beach; however when I was there in mid-March, they were not available. Many people on these boards recommend picking up some inexpensive ones at Walmart once you're there; it'll be cheaper than renting (especially if you use them multiple days).

I was at HH on March 16-19 and the bugs were really bad. I wasn't sure they were noseeum's because they seemed really big. I didn't think I was bit by any, just annoyed by them; however the day we left my hairline and one eye brow really started stinging and itching. I wonder now if it was bug bites. I would second the recommendation to take bug spray if anyone is going anytime soon!
My husband grew up on Hilton Head. He swears by Avon's Skin So Soft as a noseeum repellent. :confused3

We were @ HHI last week and ate @ San Miguels. Great food but HUGE portions. 2-3 people could share their nachos.

We had Guiseppi's deliver pizza and salad one night. Very good!

Hi!
Just found this thread.
We were there at the same time. Our 1 bdrm was in the main lodge, 3rd floor, on the left as you face the lodge from the bus stop. DS17 was perpetually in a Red Sox cap.

We loved the weather! :teeth: I had to check the year on the posts to make sure we went the same year :lmao: Coming from snowy, blustery, overcast New Hampshire, we were in heaven! and yes, the guys went swimming :goodvibes

We attended the shrimp boil, too & sat under the overhang facing the beach on the Signals side. Our party was DH, myself, DFIL & DS17.
We did end up staying an extra night for cash, we just enjoyed ourselves so much.

Hi to tcpluto!
I met you & your daughter on the Hidden Mickeys tour & at Shadow's meet & greet.
I am the note taker, short flubberbudget who is as about wide as I am 'tall'!

Just returned from our spring break trip. Left on Monday. Came back today!

We had a wonderful time!!! Weather was fantastic except for Wednesday when we had off and on showers, but still some very nice breaks here and there. And Tuesday was cooler.

Yesterday was gorgeous though. We had a great time biking, playing volleyball at the beach pool, and especially riding the bikes all throughout the resort.

Oh, and I forgot, eating! Here's our list of eating places: San Miguels -- had the extra huge chimichanga that my DD and I shared. Very good.
Got eaten up by the nosseums (or whatever they are called). We noticed as soon as we sat down we all began scratching. My sister noticed it first; then soon we were all scratching. The waiter said they come out at dusk and are bad during spring time. Off an on during the trip, we were bitten. But, funny thing is, only myself and my nephew came out with many bites on our bodies!!! No one else in our group had any evidence of the critters. :confused3

We also went to Salty Dog Cafe. Had a lot of fun there. We later pulled ourselves up on the webcam on Tuesday (the same day we were there) when I went to ck some things online.

One of our new favorite restaurants is Signs. Just a bakery but everything we got there was excellent. Ate there for breakfast yesterday and stopped by on the way out this morning. I had the key lime bread pudding. Also shared the blackberry french toast (which really kind of reminds me of bread pudding instead of french toast) with my DD yesterday. But we tried a little of everyone elses so I will know what I may want to order the next time!!!

Last night we ate at Giuseppies (sp) pizza. They were extremely busy. I liked the pizza but my sister said she thought the dough was a little too doughey. Still very good though!

I think that's it. We decided not to do the dolphin tour or fish tour on this trip. We just didn't have the funds to do it this time. And we decided we would save it for the next trip. We did fish at the resort though. My DH caught a couple.

Oh.... and I almost forgot!!! This was a bigey! We were supposed to move to a studio last night. I called the front desk and they said we were not down for a studio, that we were in the system to ck out correctly but that we were in the 2 BR Villa then. I went to the front desk where this was verified. And found out that we were only charged the points of a studio!!! :woohoo: I said, "That sounds good to me." We didn't have to move which was very nice!

Last thing that happened that I found very interesting is we saw a snake on the beach. We were getting ready to walk the path from the beach house to the beach when I saw a long snake slithering across the sand into the dunes. I told my group to look and they caught it going in the grass. We watched it until it disappeared, making a lot of people curious as to what we were doing. I thought this was wild b/k I have never seen a snake on the beach.

Anyway...had a good time. If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to answer.
