Checked in yesterday and was in the parks until late so did not get into room until 10pm. Have been up since 7 and still do not see any animals other than pelicans on the arusha savanna kudu trail. Will hope they show up later but then we will be at the parks. Maybe tomorrow. Will be sorry I used extra points for a savanna view room if this contnues for the whole trip. Found the parks to be very crowded yesterday - at some times almost as bad as Christmas week the years we came. Hoping that it will be better today. CM said they had 500 check ins at AKV yesterday 11/28. It is still better here than being someplace else. Hope everyone is having a good day.

There's a period every morning, maybe from 7 to 10 when the animals are brought in to be cared for and then people go out into the savannah to clean things up. I've found the mornings to be the least interesting at AKV.

Stayed at AKV last May for 3 nights. Most of the time, also had only pelicans around a small pond nearby. Late one night, around midnight I noticed 2 giraffes eating leaves from a tree. That was great. But still enjoyed the Savannah view, even without animals.

Though we had booked the value studio, so didn't pay extra for the view.

When we stayed at Kidani last year, we saw the most animals in the late afternoon when they were fed in our area. Rarely any in the morning.

Sunset savannah is best, near sunset, as they have an late afternoon feeding time.
Works out quite nicely if you have an afternoon nap!

Yeah. We were there at Kidani (a few weeks ago) on the southern sunset savannah and hardly saw any animals in the 7 days we were there. Boo. :confused3 Last we stayed, we were on the Arusha, annnnnd, saw few animals then too. So maybe we have crummy luck. Wait, not maybe, DEFINITELY, we have crummy luck.

I should add that I was there at almost all parts of the day. I was in our room quite a bit more then the norm.

We have stayed at Kidani, in a savannah view 2 bedroom, and only saw a buzzard and the herd of cows for 5 days. Our next stay was in a Jambo House 1 bedroom on the Arusha savannah, and saw even fewer animals. We still love AKV, even though we never see animals, and are staying at KV for another week in May. You have to have a villa close to where they do most of the feeding to see alot of animals. At KV, if you have a villa close to Sanaa, you will see tons of animals.

hey since I am cheap stay standard or value and then go find the animals....

In March, we stayed in Kidani, and every evening as we came home from the parks, there was an area to the left of the lobby where there always were oodles of animals right there, to look at before we got on the elevators.

In Jambo we always had good luck seeing animals when we stayed on the Arusha savannah.

We were at Kidani last year in the second week of December and we saw a lot of animals. There were a few in the morning, but the fog was usually so dense that you really couldn't see them. We saw the most animals in the afternoon when the truck goes around the savannah to feed the giraffes. The zebras seemed to clean up the scraps after the giraffes moved on to the next feeding station. One ostrich followed the truck around and kept trying to grab food out of the truck bed. It seemed like there were different mixes of animals out at certain times.

You may check with some of the CM's outside on the overlook deck to see if they can tell you when feeding time might be. It's definately worth trying to be there to watch.

So agree. We stayed at Kidani this October in a standard view and loved it. We went to the lobby and by the pool in the afternoons to look at the animals. They seemed to be active at around 3:00 every day. Hope you have more luck tomorrow.

We were at Kidani this past May and saw animals all the time. Morning, afternoon, and evening. Lots of giraffes and buffalo and the cattle with the really long horms plus ostrich and other birds. Came back late one night and a giraffe was asleep right outside. I did request the Sunset Savanah.

OP here - We did see quite a few animals on day 3 when we were in room between 4 and 5 pm. Also saw some late at night. I didn't expect to see them all the time and in the long run we did see a good variety. The stay was very nice except for some bus issues.

Glad it worked out for you after all. We stayed there last year and saw a lot of animals in the morning.

We did see a giraffe on the arusha savanna kudu trail 3 times in the five days. The best day we saw the animals was when they had the sunset safari in progress. There were several different types of animals out at the same time that day.

We saw the most animals on the Zebra trail at Jambo. It did seem they were mostly around midafternoon though.

While we were at Kidani last week we saw many giraffes, zebras, gazelles, storks....it was quite lovely.

In fact, this Gazelle was so happy to have its picture taken, it gave me quite the smile.

Yup, we are there now and have seen 3 zebras and one giraffe in the distance in 7 days so far...

We are at Jambo house.

I'm thinking the cold might have something to do with this.
