Astronaut Kidnapping Plot: Anyone See This?

My thoughts exactly... These Astronaouts train and fly together and put their lives, and the lives of others, in each others hands... :sad2:

The fact that this happened is just another example of NASA looking the other way, focused on 'technology' and 'the mission'. Just like the 'O-Rings' and the Columbia disaster.

I've been a huge NASA fan and fan of space exploration in general, but I think what has happened to NASA is the typical big government out of control story. The agency has gotten so bloated with bureaucrats/bureaucracy/red tape in general, its losing site of its original nobel goals and is more bogged down by its own weight and just existing to exist as so many of the other big government agecies have become.

Ohhh, I agree. I hope that you did not misread the intent of my post. NO WAY is NASA to blame. A person is personally responsible for their actions.

I am just pointing out, like the previous poster, that NASA with all of their psychological testing may have really been looking the other way and dropped the ball. NASA has all but admitted to dropping many balls after the last two tragedies that should not have happened.

I'm not being combative, I'm really not. But to suggest that NASA looked the other way? They're not that desperate for astronauts. Obviously the woman is messed up but I don't know that psychological testing would have predicted this.

Maybe NASA just didn't ask the hypothetical "What if in 10+ years when you're married with kids you have an extramarital affair? Would you be discreet or would you go ape**** and attempt to kidnap an alleged rival for your paramour's affections while wearing a diaper?"

I could be mistaken in my interpretation...but....

it is a male pilot...and the other chick--has more than a working relationship..but less than a romantic one. I read that as they were really good buddies who probably got along really well and the Huggies lady thought she had a chance if she went psycho and get her out of the way.

Huggies lady ... :rotfl2: :lmao:

What got me was the "more than a working relationship and less than a romantic relationship..." which is, what -- friendship? Man, I like my friends, but I don't think I'd kill for them...

ETA: CHARGES JUST UPPED TO ATTEMPTED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER!!

That makes sense. After reading the two news reports in the links provided by the previous posters, I don't think there's much doubt that she planned to do serious harm to the woman.

I guess I don't really understand what it means to "snap." When I think of snapping, I think of just losing my cool and going off for a while, merely on impulse. This lady planned, gathered her mace and bb gun, packed some diapers and then drove about 13 hours from Houston to Orlando. I would think she'd have time to un-snap during that trip. I tend to think she's just a deviant who has lost perspective, or maybe she's drifted off into dementia.

Hmmm. My info came from NPR. Did she have something more than a bb gun?

The O-rings were the culprits in the Challenger disaster, not the Columbia disaster.

I wonder what brand of diapers provide an adult 9 hours of absorbency?! :rotfl: Frankly, I think that the diaper thing becoming public news is going to be worse for this woman than the inevitable jail time, loss of career, and probable loss of family:scared1:

OK, being totally cynical here, but I'm just wondering how long it will take before she uses the alcohol excuse.

Just seems that every high profile person who gets caught doing something bad eventually blames it on a drinking problem.

Gavin Newsome
Mark Foley
Mel Gibson
Miss America

and the list goes on and on . . .

Don't forget the creepy meth-addicted preacher guy.

Let's not defame Miss America. ;) It's Miss USA (that's the pageant the Donald bought.)

I don't imagine that NASA does CONTINUAL psychological testing. They probably do a lot before you get in the program, then do a lot more before you are assigned to a mission.

The thing is, astronaunts are normally super brilliant. Seems like a brilliant person would have been able to come up with a better murder plot than this one.

Enough of this serious discussion of the causes behind the astronaut going postal. Let's move on to the real important stuff - like who is going to play Nowak in the inevitable upcoming feature film on this soap opera (I'm sure some producer out here has already put out a casting call.)

Yes, who is the running favorite to play the messed-up-diaper-wearing-adultering-burglaring-attempted-kidnapper-murderer-astro-nut? Is it....

Debra Winger?

Well, Winger has the right spooked out look, but she may be too old - how about Sandra Bullock?

Right age and a good actress, but hyper-image-conscious Sandra never plays unsympathetic characters.

O.K., well, then there's always Neve Campbell:

A favorite of producers of edgy dramas and slasher movies, Campbell can definitely pull off the "wack-job" element of the Nowak character. But she may be little too young and perky to play a married, 40-ish mother.

I guess that leaves us with Charlize Theron. After the frightening show she put on in Monster (below), the gal has clearly shown she can look like and play anyone... especially crazy killer women. Make her a brunette and curl her hair and we're all set to go!

Question: How long does it take to drive from Houston to Orlando?
Answer: Depends!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

She wore a diaper to avoid stopping
what a great tip when traveling to Orlando use a diaper to avoid stops.:rotfl:

I really didn't get the rubber tubing part. Was this so if her car breaks down she's prepared if its a radiator problem? Was it part of a beer bong? Was it part of a space shuttle that she's keeping for a souvi? Or more sinister was this part of some evil aparatus she was going to use to torture the victim? Inquiring minds must know these pressing issues.:confused3

I admit this women has me intrigued, and its not because I like astronauts!

I'm just guessing, but I assumed it was to tie the victim up. :confused3

Answer: Depends!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Or possibly: How many times do you have to stop for a bio break on the drive from Houston to Orlando?
(same answer as above)

Didn't she have to stop for gasoline??? Or is she driving one of those super secret NASA vehicles that doesn't need to be refueled??? Inquiring minds want to know.
