Asthma sufferers please lend me your remedies!

Thanks for all the responses. At least I know I am not alone. :)

And thanks for sharing all that you do and have done in the past. Hopefully some of this will help. :goodvibes

Are you taking your Advair on a regular basis, not just as needed? It will take about 3 weeks for it to really get into your system and start giving you better control. Also, are you using your inhaler properly? You may need a dosage change but they might not do that right away. Are you seeing an asthma specialist? That will make a difference in your treatment. I know that for DS13 if his numbers aren't good he also goes on Flovent until they are in the green zone for a week. Maybe you need something additional until your numbers are better.

As for taking them both together, our dr suggested waiting about 10 minutes after taking the advair to use the albuterol. If you are having an attack, take the albuteral first and wait about 10 minutes to take the Advair.

Been taking the advair 2x a day for about 2 weeks. They started it in the hospital. I seem to get worse at night... dunno why, just do. :confused3

I too have asthma. I was on Advair 2x a day but I just recently switched. Now I am on Advair 1x a day and a steroid inhaler at night. I've went from about 60% in my small airways to about 87% using Advair. For me it worked wonders. My doctor is even considering completely dropping it because I am doing so well.

Are you using your Advair as a rescue inhaler? Advair is a preventative measure, it is not to be used when you are having an attack. I have Maxair as a rescue inhaler and it works really well. My best advice is to work with your doctor for the best results. Don't know if this has been mentioned, remember to wash your mouth out after using your inhalers. You don't want an infection from them.

My husband uses Advair (twice a day) and Nasonex. He can also use Albuterol if he feels a little congested. Those meds control his asthma. He did have a serious attack about 8 yrs. ago when he was hospitalized in ICU, the works. From that moment on, his pulmonologist told us that if DH had to struggle to breathe, then the meds weren't working and to call him right away or go to the ER. Advair won't relieve your symptoms right away, it's more of a preventative med.

Just call your doctor now and explain your symptoms. You don't want to get to the point where you are in serious trouble. Take care and feel better. :goodvibes

I have had asthma since I was five, when my chest is tight and the inhalers arnt helping I tend to boil the kettle put the water in a bowl with lavender put a towel over my head and breath it in it helps me., though if your chest really hurts go to the er you can never be too carefull
