ASSports vs ASMusic

I'm traveling solo in November, staying at AllStarMusic in a standard room (as of right now). I'm considering upgrading to preferred. How "long" a walk is it from the lobby to a room in the Jazz buildings as compared to the walk from lobby to a standard room at AllStarSports? I'm hoping to minimize the walking distance as I tend to stay at DS until that last bus back to AllStar, and it can be a long, dark walk through ASMu to rooms in Broadway or Rock Inn. However, I don't want to pay for preferred at ASMu and end up in Jazz, if the standard rooms at ASSp are the same distance from the lobby.

I can't definitively answer your question, but I've stayed at both resorts. I've stayed at ASMU 3 times, and have always ended up in the Broadway section. I love the theming, but the linear layout of Music makes it seem like a very long (and dark) walk. I've stayed at Sports more times than I can count, and have never felt like the walk to standard rooms is bad.
I stayed at Sports for 1 night in April before moving to Pop and I was in building 9 in the Homerun section. My room was on the end closest to building 8 and I felt like it was not a bad walk at all. You're walking past the "football field" and the baseball field pool, and it was very well lit.

Exactly as you said...we consider Music our home resort but the linear layout is difficult for a lot of people.

Keep in mind that part of Jazz is also considered preferred so the standard rooms in Jazz are much closer to the piano pool than the food court. If walking distance is an issue. you should book preferred at Music or at Sports. But the Mighty Ducks section of Sports is very very close to the food court at Music

I always like to book preferred when I'm solo or just with my young daughter. The longer walks at night creep me out a bit. I like Sports preferred over Music, it feels like a closer walk and seems like there are always more people around.

This is actually my concern. I mean... why pay for preferred if I'm gonna end up way the hoodleyheck out there in Jazz; might just as well roll the dice, save the money, and hope for Rock or Broadway. It appears that Sports standard could be closer than Music preferred, if assigned to Jazz. How is Music with requests? If I ask for Calypso, is there a good chance of getting it, or is it, once again, up to the Gods of Room Assignment?
(Good lord, I'm getting old! I can do the walking, I was fine last November, but I really did get spoiled with the Calypso location!)

We’ve never stayed at Music, but have stayed in the Homerun and Tennis sections at Sports. Neither was a bad walk. Our tennis room was right behind the preferred rooms so nice and close. While Homerun was a little more of a walk, it was well lit as your walking through the football field then the pool at home run.

I would also look into booking Movies and asking for a room in the Ducks section. We did this and it was a quick easy walk to the music bus stop. We just walked along the road, but you could walk through the main lobby and across the street. Was just quicker to walk along the road. Only downfall with this is I’d say it would be more dark and you’ll probably be by yourself if that’s something you’re trying to avoid. But as far as walking to a standard room, this is probably the best option I’d think.

Well @leebee I see you are still debating on which resort and room type. I have another suggestion for you to consider. Keeping in mind requests aren't guaranteed of course if ASMUSIC preferred room is still a consideration you could make your first request Calypso and second one upper floor and whether you do online check in or not stop by the front desk when you arrive and see if you got your requests and if not perhaps they could get you a room in Calypso. I admit I have been really fortunate with getting my requests or being able to get my room switched to my choices at Disney but only you can decide if this is an option you want to consider. I have only stayed once at ASSports and was in hoops hotel and the walk wasn't terrible but whether it's closer than jazz at Music I can't say. For me this past May trip I wanted to stay at Music regardless so if I didn't get Calypso like I did jazz would have been fine. Unfortunately now I am spoiled so I will always try for Calypso when staying at ASMusic. But for me ASMusic preferred will always be my go to AllStar resort. I wish I could tell you how the walk is from jazz but I never walked down that far. Sorry. Like I said Calypso spoiled me.LOL. When you finally decide please let us know.
