We have our trip planned for Oct and we are staying at Pop Century (first onsite trip and first family trip). Now that they have brought back free dining, we can move ressies to ASMusic and have free dining for $200 less than we were paying without dining. We are going to have to move our dates a week earlier but we can do this. I don't know anything about the ASMusic and don't know anyone that has stayed there (friends have stayed at Pop) so I need help with advice of those that has stayed at ASMu. Another way we could go is staying at CSR and that would cost us $200 more than our Pop ressies but it would include dining. Is CSR worth the $$317 more than ASMu???? :confused3 My thinking is if the ASMu is ok place then we can take the extra money we are saving ($200) and stay at the beach for 2 nites on our way home :goodvibes

Thanks for all your help!!!

To make a long story short...I was a Disney CM and became a moderate and deluxe resort snob because we got a great discount. My first trip as a non-CM and chaperone for my son's HS band was last June at the ASMusic. We stayed the first few nights at the HRH (Universal) and the Dolphin, I was dreading the ASMusic. What I found was very clean rooms, a great food court, and little noise (#3rd floor Broadway building). The pool was nice and never super crowded. They had a nice store, and the kids loved the game room. The laundry room near the quiet pool was never busy. Transportation wasn't the greatest, but we have always had a rental car so I can't compare it to other resorts.

We are going back to the ASMusic at the end of August with free dining. I don't think it is worth the extra for a moderate unless you are going to be spending a lot of time at your resort (table service restaurants, more recreational activities). We only have 5 nights/4 full days, so I know we won't have any time for the extras.

It has been a few yers ago, but we have stayed at ASMU twice (ASMo once) and CSR once.
The first ASMu stay we paid extra for the Calypso section.
The second time we were in Rock Inn.
We are park people, with no kids, and spent very little time in the room.
If you spend any time at the resort a mod may work for you.
If the resort is a place to sleep, shower and maybe grab a quick bite, then go with the value.
We actually had always VERY good service at the values. Even bus service. They seemed more "together".
About the only difference is the values don't have much shelter when standing for a bus.
But the mods have very cramped quarters themselves (in the bus wait area).
We really like CSR. You do get a few more perks, like an in room coffee maker, a ceiling fan, nicer pool area, nicer theming. And CSR has a quieter and more relaxing feeling all the way around. The values can be very noisy, busy and hectic, depending on your timing and what groups are there.
Either way your stay should be good.

Out of all the All Star resorts I prefer ASMu for reasons already stated (quieter, feels less crowded since not as many children, etc.) but the kids prefer the other two. (because of the theming there) I go to ASMu when I go solo trips. :)

I'd switch from POP to ASMu to get the free dining. In fact our next trip I wanted to stay at POP but there wasn't/isn't any openings during our time at POP with free dining... so we opted for ASSp (kids on this trip -and I wasn't ABOUT to do movies again... bus/crowds issues LOL Movies would be my last choice from now on)

I would definitely switch for the free dining. Not only will it save you the initial $200.00, but for a trip your length, probably more like $700+. The free dining plan is the draw for us, we are staying at POP. I have heard mostly good reviews on values and am sure ASMu is the same. Have fun!!

I enjoyed ASMu when I stayed there. I thought the rooms were just as clean and "magical" as when I stayed in the Contemporary (perhaps a little more so.) The things that might make a difference are the size of your party and whether or not you have a car. The rooms are a little on the small size, but there is very good (much better than what I remember of the Swan) access to the parking lots.

Some people also mentioned that the beds may be harder at the Pop? I have never stayed there, so I can't say one way or another. I would like to try Pop myself, but it's full up for the dates I was looking at.

We just returned from a stay at the ASMu and thought it was an excellent resort. The food court was good by food court standards and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were similiar in size to a ramada and very clean. I was alarmed at first by the amount of noise in the pool area but with the door closed you cant hear it at all. I say go for it and enjoy your trip
