Uh, I thought I posted this already, but I don't see it! :confused3

ANYWAY, I was just wondering if AK was close enough to ASMu to walk, rather than bussing it. I found a map on the internet, and it *looks* pretty close, but I do know that looks can be deceiving!

Thanks!

Yep looks are deceiving. It isn't that close. Its a pretty good major road with no sidewalks or anything so it would have to be by bus.

not if you have children with you.. there arent really any paths or anything (at least that I saw) so youd be goofing along the road.

It also seemed like kind of a long way.. not between the parks. but through the parking lots.. then again to me it seems like a very long way between the parking lot and the park.

....even if it WAS within walking distance, you would NOT be allowed from ASMu to AK; you have to use the bus transportation system!

O.k., kimmar, how can they NOT let you walk? It may be farther than thought and they can make it difficult (no sidewalks, entrance to park surrounded by parking lot), but if one has a ticket do they need to use public transportation?

Just curious...got the same response when I wanted to walk from WL to the TTC. It was a beautiful day and I really didn't want to be couped up in a bus, but when I asked the valet which route would be quicker, he actually asked why would I want to walk when there was bus transportation available. Umm...

My guess is that if there aren't sidewalks available they wouldn't want to take the chance of something happening.. As another post mentioned, drivers seem to let all sense escape them when they are on Disney roads and a resort guest walking along the streets would probably be a big liability.

No one will forbid you from walking -- no Disney police will pick you up and no one will force you onto busses. But there are no walkways, sidewalks or safe walking areas between most of the resorts and parks. There are no other ways into DAK from the "outside" other than to go through the parking toll booths, so you'll be walking through those too, which have no sidewalks or walking areas and are 8-10 lanes of cars. The road shoulders between ASM and DAK are grassy, swampy, and muddy. Cars regularly get stuck in them when they try to cut through. There's very little shoulder there -- not much gravel or anything like that to walk on -- and cars are zipping past you at 55mph. Also ... once you get through the toll booth at whichever park you're at, you've got another mile (at least) of parking lot to walk through.

If you're choosing walking instead of bus because you think it will save time, it won't. If you're choosing it for the exercise value ... trust me, you'll get enough exercise walking around the parks. Take the bus!

Well! Walking sounds so charming, but I think I'll have to stick with the bus. Ah well. We plan to head there once we check in at the hotel, so I was thinking that a little leg-stretching would be nice after the plane ride, but um, I guess I'll do that after the bus instead ;)

Thanks for the info y'all! :cheer2:

if you are walking in what WDW consider a dangerous road - security WILL pick you up and if you are staying with WDW deliver you to your resort.

I don't think any off siters try to walk along the roads at WDW.

If there is no sidewalk, more than likely, the road is just for vehicles and not meant for family to stroll along on. The way I see it is like the freeways. They have shoulders for troubled cars, but you don't see family strolling along the side of the freeway.

The only place I would walk from the resort to the parks would be the properties at Universal. It literally takes about 5 minutes (HRH) or 10 (RPR) to CityWalk. And they do have a nice path. We walk it and sometimes we take the boat.

WDW has a number of resorts that are within walking distance of one or more theme parks:

Boardwalk Inn / Villas
Yacht & Beach Club
Dolphin
Swan
Contemporary
Grand Floridian(?)

Actually Disney Security will often stop guests who are walking along the roads. If there is no sidewalk, then you do not belong there.
