We have just returned from a 4-night stay at ASMu Family Suites, and I wanted to share a few tidbits with everyone here.
You cannot complain about the cleanliness, and I think that goes for all Disney resorts. They are wonderfully clean, no doubt about it.
There were, however, a few things that annoyed us. For starters, the kitchenette. When a kitchenette is advertised, it seems that the basics, like utensils and plates and bowls should be included. Our suite included 4 plastic knives and 4 plastic forks, no spoons. Also included were 4 flimsy paper plates and 4 super tiny paper bowls. We had stopped at a grocery on the way in and brought milk, cereal, etc. No way were those little bowls big enough to hold a bowl of cereal. Well, maybe if you ate and refilled the bowl about 4 times. But who really wants to do that on vacation (or anytime)?! The fridge was great and worked wonderfully for our juice and beer and milk. But as far as having any real meals there, I don't see how it could happen.
Having two bathrooms was super handy and we really took advantage of that. The design of the sinks wasn't very kid-friendly though (which you'd expect...staying in a "family suite") -- the sink was high and sat about 6" back from the edge. Not a biggie for adults, but impossible for my 6YO to brush her teeth, and there was no stool. We improvised, so not a big deal, but a detail I would have expected Disney to catch. There was a curtain that closes so one person can shower and use the sink without waking up others. Would have been even nicer if the curtain had enclosed the kitchen area too, but again, not a big deal really.
The noise factor was a bit much for us. We were on the 2nd of 3 floors and it seemed that we could hear everything that happened above us, as well as kids running down the hall at midnight.
The maid service, while all really nice, came knocking at 8:30am several mornings (including the day we were leaving). We were up and dressed (for the most part), but that seems quite early to be knocking. Geez -- it's vacation!!
We were in the Calypso building, closest to the food court, etc. Can't beat the location. Also the pool was right there too. They do have nice evening activities, like Disney movies on outside by the pool, a HSM karaoke night (was hilarious), good music playing all the time, etc.
The flip-out bed was just fine for my DD6. I can't imagine an adult sleeping on it though....I laid on it for about 10 mins to watch TV and it was like laying on a board!
The food court seemed pretty chaotic and loud all the time, no matter when you were there. I took my DD to Disney last year and we stayed at CBR, and the food court there was much more relaxed and not so hectic. Guess that's one of the many differences in the values vs. moderates.
The Busses: Wow. Huge difference in bus wait times from the moderates. Last year I don't think we ever waited more than 10 minutes for a bus anywhere. This time we waited 20-30 mins on MANY occasions. I had read that on here about the values having long bus waits. Well, it's true. And the 3 value resorts share buses, so that just adds even more people and time. One day when my DH left the Magic Kingdom with my son, the board said bus stop 13, but the bus really came to 14. Luckily he was paying attention, but he still waited 40 mins for that bus! Not ideal with a nap-needing toddler.
We chose the ASMu suites specifically for the suite. Our son is young, and all of us in one room would be very difficult, especially during nap times. The suite served its purpose for us in this respect, but we were pretty disappointed with the other aspects of the room and resort in general.
I know the ASMu suites are very popular with DISers on here, and this was how I found out about them in the first place. Just wanted to share our experience, as I think it helps to know what to expect when you're going somewhere.
Please let me know if you have any questions -- I'm happy to help answer others questions any way that I can.
