We were there from 8/9-8/14, through Charley and all.

After we finally left WDW, DH said we will never stay at ASMo again. Let me explain, it has nothing to do with the CM's, every CM that we met, from check in to check out were great!!! ::yes::
Our biggest problems were with other guests. We had a "neighbor" for some reason set the alarm to go off at 6:30 am and then just let it go off, it seemed like forever to us, until 8:30. Then of course DH expericend the "Turbo Toliets". Cause of these boards I was prepared for them and told DH before we left, but he couldn't believe just how loud they were.

Then to top it all off at the end of our stay, we met Charley. Friday when we woke up we decied that we would check out and get on the road early before Charley hit. As we were loading up the kids a security guard in a van/SUV pulled up behind us and asked if we were heading home. When DH informed him that we were, he told us that I-4, I-75, and I-95 were bumper to bumper and that it would be best for us for one of us to go back into our room and for the other to go to the front desk and get out room back and stay there the night. That we would be alot safer then being out on the roads, possiably having to find somewhere to stay anyways. He said he was looking out for the saftey of the guests. DH and I did what he said, I went back into the room and DH went back up to the front desk to get our room back. While DH was gone I received a call in the room from some guy saying that what the security guard told us wasn't right and that the roads would be closing at 3 pm if we wanted to leave. Luckily 3 minutes later, DH showed up saying we got our room back. I told him about the call and he said there is nothing they can do about it now since the room was offically ours again.

Since they were only having the parks open till 1 that day we decied to just stick around the resort and go swimming. When I went back out to the van to get our bathing suits and clothes, I saw the same security guard talking to two guys that were wearing ties {must have been imporant guys, never saw anyone before them in ties around WDW}. While I was getting things out, the security guard pulled up behind the van and asked if it was a new one {to me he was making small talk in front of the guys} When those guys left, I asked him if he got in trouble for telling us what he did. All he said to me was, that he wasn't telling anymore guests what to do. Now to me this security guard saved our lives!!! We could have been stuck on the roads when Charley came through or would have gotten stuck in a shelter somewhere taking up space from a family who really needed it. While talking to the guard, a woman from Tennessee was going to do the samething that we were going to do and leave. But when she went to check out they told her at the front desk it would be best if she just stayed there, cause she would have food, water and electricy. Where alot of hotels anywhere else probably won't have during and after Charley hit. No one at the front desk told me anything about staying.

I told DH that I ran into the guard again and what he told me about not telling guests what he told us. DH made a bee line up to the front desk to complain that the guard should not have gotten in trouble or anything else for what he told us. To him {DH} that should be WDW's responsiably to look out for their guests and safety, not just in the parks and resorts, and that is what the guard was doing.

Luckily we got an extra day to use anytime we want before 2013, just like everyone else on that day.

What a way to end our very first ever trip to WDW.

Maybe its me but I don't feel thats a god reason not to go back t ASmo. Maybe they consider this creating mass hysteria and don't want to freak out the guest. I love this hotel and will be going here quit often. Did you ask why he got in trouble? I don't think they were trying to get rid of anybody danger or not.

So... what's the reason for not going back to ASMo? Glad to hear that you made it home safe.

I thought it very strange that the security guard would get in trouble for something that ultimately might have made Disney some $$, i.e. people who might have extended their stay & paid for an ADD'L night because of the advice. I can understand Disney not wanting people to feel pressured into staying, (you can't say ANYTHING to ANYBODY nowadays without SOMEONE complaining), but it sounds as though the sec gd was offering advice -- people could take it or leave it!

Way to go "John Doe" Security Guard!

P.S. Is anyone else having A LOT of trouble accessing these boards lately ("too busy, try again later" messages)?

Yep, and it's driving my nuts! I love these boards!

Thank God you stayed put. A family traveling on the Beeline was involved in an accident with a moving truck that was "blown" over to their side of the road. From the pictures, it looked like the truck had "swallowed" the car. The parents and two chidlren were hospitalized and the four year old girl was killed. They were all wearing their seatbelts.

Sorry about all the confusion on your trip. :( Was there any other reason not to stay there again besides the toilets & the alarm neighbor? How was the rest of the stay there?

Maybe the neighbour had allready left and forgot about the alarmclock. So the mousekeeper had to turn it of.

I got the impression that in addition to loud toilets & unattended alarm clocks the family didn't approve of the way the management didn't back their employee. If they disagreed with the guard perhaps she thought they should have addressed him with that later. I would find it awkward to be told their security guard was wrong. Regardless of the right or wrong who wants to be pushed & pulled into and out of vans & rooms? In the vehicle, no, get out, back to the room, but first go ask for it back, no that's false, you can leave. I do think she was allowed to be annoyed. A confusing time granted but I think traditional management training would be to back the guards word then take him aside later for the discussion.

Simonmunro hit the nail right on the head about my post.

As for the neighbors with the alarm clock, they didn't leave and forget about it. After it was turned off we could hear through the wall people talking about the first one out of bed would get to the shower first, well duh!!!!

Thankfully after two mornings of this "alarm clock" they must have left, cause a couple with two kids were taking bags into the room next to us when we came back from the parks on our third day. I can handle kids crying, cause I have two of my own. But DH hates alarm clocks with a passion! How they could have slept through it going off for that long, I have no idea.

In my post I had no problem with ASMo, except for the alarm clock, but like I just said, those people left. It's DH that says we will never go back to ASMo. And since I am a stay at home mom and he is the one working, when we go back to WDW in a couple of years, I have to respect his wishes of not wanting to go back there. At least this way, I can experince a moderate resort. LOL!!

The rest of our trip was great! But like I have read on these boards so many times, a week is not long enough to see everything. Next time we are thinking about going for 2 weeks. We left Magic Kingdom for Thursday and Friday so we could see all of it, but thanks to Charley, we didn't go on Friday.

As for the security guard, they shouldn't have gotten on to him. To me he was doing his job by making us feel secure and making sure we were safe.

I wish Walt was alive today, I know he would be proud of what the security guard did. And I would do everything in my power to try and get ahold of Walt to tell him what that security guard did for us.

Thanks for sharing your exp! I'm glad your family opted to stay put and not risk it, the roads were bad during that time and one more car would not have helped things.

As far as your exp's with the hotel, we had similar ones at Pop and won't be staying there again. NOTHING to do with service, but the paperthin walls and EXTREMELY loud plumbing is just not cool. From now on, we'll just go moderate or above, problem solved ;)

I'm so glad you and your family made it home safely! I can't imagine how scary it would be during a hurricane! As far as the turbo toilets go though, they had them at CBR when we stayed there on our honeymoom too. Sounded like the thing was going to suck down the entire building wih it!

Apparently, the guard was told to stop telling people what to do because if he does that, and guests follow his advice and it turns out to be the wrong decision, then those people can sue Disney for any harm they suffer as a result of the guard's advice. To avoid lawsuits, Disney has to do its best to make sure that guests are protected, but also instruct their employees not tell people what to do. To Disney, an extra night of occupancy of a hotel room is not worth near as much as the value of avoiding a lawsuit because someone stayed due to a guard's advice and then got hurt.

Hope this is helpful in understanding why Disney didn't back the employee and apparently instructed him to quit telling people what to do.

We were at the Contemporary Resort during Hurricane Charley. We felt that Disney did a great job in letting us know what was going on -- note under the door, at least eight messages on our phone from management over a 24 hour period, an ad hoc meeting with the CM assigned to stay with us in the North garden wing overnight, etc. Not once, however, did anyone tell us what to do as far as staying or going (we flew to Orlando so didn't have a choice but to stay). Overall, we felt safe being in Disney's hands during a very stressful night.

Okay....usually I can figure out the abbreviations on this boards...its almost like a puzzle...but for the life of me I can't figure out which resort is ASMo??:scratchin

I myself have not gone back to any of the value resorts because of noise.
The turbo toilets kept waking me up starting at 5:30-6AM every morning. One right after another until I gave up and got up myself.
The people next door also. I cant say they were doing anything extra loud. Its just that the walls are SO thin. I could even make out what they were saying in normal conversation. A baby crying in the night was like it was in my own room.
I have been to both Mods and deluxe and never had a noise prob. like the values.

Guess that rules out all of the "value resorts" (All Stars, Pop Century) for you. I still stay at those resorts.

Stayed at Coronado Springs (a "moderate resort") because I was attending a convention there otherwise I would have stayd at Pop Century. There was a noisy air conditioner just outside my room and I could barely hear it from inside. If I remember correctly there were the same turbo toilets there. These toilets have a capsule in the tank that the water enters until an air bubble gets squeezed so much to equal the water pressure. Then when you flush the toilet, the pressure helps do the flush with just 1.6 gallons (or whatever that legal limit is).

Fridge won't restart after power failure? It may be in the middle of a defrost cycle that always comes around every several hours or so, look for a screwdriver adjustment near the temperature control knob inside, turn that gently.
