Go to the work tab, then find the Labor Service center. Then click on view/submit labor requests, then its something like "ask time off schedule" You have to pick the week ending date and then use the drop downs for individual days.
I'd suggest going to your manager/leadership team. This is something that they should have discussed during training. Even if it wasn't on the agenda, they would be much better versed in what to do and all of that.

Definitely better idea to ask a fellow cm to take the shift. Time off goes to the FTs first and then down the line, so you might not get it off if you dont request it at least a month in advance.

Also, you aren't wasting your leader's time. That's what they are there for, to help you. However, approach them when they aren't busy. Since you are at the FD, talk to your FSA...
