AS Movies or CSR/Moderates?

We are going in early January with our 4 year old son. He LOVES Toy Story so we figured we would stay at AS Movies since he loves Buzz & Woody. It has been a while since I have stayed on site at Disney. My husband and I went over our honeymoon in 2000, but we stayed off site. When I was a child, I stayed in the Yogi Bear Campground, and in my teens I stayed at one of the Deluxe resorts, a Home Away From Home. My question is will we like the Value resort? My son is very active and busy and the ASMO just seemed perfect for his age. Should I wait until he is older to enjoy one of the moderates? OTOH, I am concerned about OUR enjoyment! From some of the reviews, it sounds like the values are more like a glorified Motel 6 that are very loud and noisy. Our son is also very impatient and my concern is that the food court, pool, etc. might be swarming with people. Are the crowd levels less so at the moderates? I was specifically considering CSR because of the great reviews and playground. Should we not stress because we are going in January anyway when it is supposed to be less busy? Decisions, Decisions, ugh!

Several variables, first being when are you going. Marathon weekend, 5-8th has the potential to bring in something 40,000 runners and their families. We did the half last year and stayed at ASMo. The hotel was full. We stayed because our focus was on the race and not the hotel time. I would think MLK weekend is also a very busy time. When we were there the pool was never too crowded (and it was in the 80's) and the food court stayed busy but we always found a table. Hotel itself is cute and I would stay again for the right trip. I think the guests who are staying around you can make or break it. It does lack many of the amenities that we enjoy at the moderates and deluxe, so you need to think about those and their importance.

With the moderate I find it to be less noisy and more relaxed, especially CSR which has business guests. My kids enjoyed the slides in the pools when younger, the hot tubs, the boat rentals.....the food court at CSR is very nice and you do have option of sitdown. CSR pool and play area is nice and well planned. Much more to do at these hotels, especially if you are planning hotel time. So the length of trip would factor as well. And the price difference if that is important.

Keep in mind you get what you pay for-we will never ever again stay in an AllStar (bad experiences-not resolved after over a year).

Moderates are also very kid friendly plus they don't seem as crowded or busy as the values-I think you will enjoy a moderate far more.

But, to each his own.............
