Article on flying out of us vs. Canada

Being in the Yukon, means that we are stuck going through Vancouver or possibly Calgary now.
For DW DD and I to fly to MCO, or anywhere that isn't Vancouver will be around $4k! Just to fly to Vancouver is going to be around $500-$650 round trip. Looking on expedia if we go down to Seattle our round trip from Sea-MCO would be a lower price than our Whse-Van flight!

I just have to figure out how to get to Seattle from Van city.

My friend booked a trip to WDW, is there right now:):)

She used CAA to book her trip. As well as her flights. TA can still book flights into the US BUT....there is now a fee for them to do so. CAA charged her $90 a flight. She DID have a cheap flight. Until they charged that crazy amount!!! If thats the case, I don't think I will be using a TA to book my flights.

My aunt confirms this, who is a cruise TA.

We generally go the US to fly for the $$-Savings... however for my trip later this month it was cheaper to fly out of YVR... yes I know, a shocker but it was!! We saved a few hundred flying from home vs the US a bitmore when you take lodging, food, gas, etc into account to drive to Seattle... I think it was the first time ever.

Doesn't really surprise me. Things seem to be in a a sort of state of change right now so it seems like anything is possible. For years flying from Edmonton to Orlando, it was a challenge to find any cheap flights. I could often get United flights on the Air Canada site for a few hundred (for four) less than either United.ca or United.com. Now those same United flights are thousands, yes thousands, more for four people. How does $952 each way, per person sound. Right now the best is to book with United.ca on a Continental flight but it's still around $3000 for four people return for most days. Once the United/Continental merger is done it will probably all change again. The only constant seems to be change.:)

I live in Windsor so I never fly Canadian airlines for pleasure DTW is 40 minutes from my house. I have flown AC or WJ for business when they didn't care too much about the fare. Last time I had to fly to Vancouver, we flew out of DTW however - direct flight was $700 cheaper per person than leaving from Windsor.

To the PP who said they haven't seen Canada because of the airfare - I feel your pain. I have been able to travel a lot for work but my DH hasn't. I think he would love Banff but I can't pay those crazy fares when we can go to WDW with airfare, tix, hotel and food for the same price.

I booked through CAA and was not charged a service fee for the flights. I looked up everything and called her and told her what I wanted and the prices for the flights and trip. I told her if she could not get me those prices for the flights that I would book them myself. Last October I saved $900 flying out of Detroit compared to Toronto. I live near London so the difference maybe an hour in driving. I stay over the night before at a hotel that cost me $83 that includes breakfast and parking/shuttle for 8 days. I also like that Delta has about 6 flights to MCO a day so you really have choice.

We are flying out of Detroit to Orlando on Dec 4 thru 11'th for $241.00 with Delta. No way that flying out of Toronto will be near that price.

The first year I went to Disney with my son we flew out of Montreal with Airmiles points, still cost us 800$ in taxes, fuel surcharge and insurance.

Fell in love with Disney, had to go back with my my whole family (5) the flight out of Montreal was about 3500$ in off season :scared1:

We drove to Burlington (2 1/2 hrs) got a direct flight for 1000$ for all of us :thumbsup2

We have gone back a couple of time :rolleyes1 (see below) always flying out of the US otherwise we could not afford the trip.

Last March brake (last minute trip) found good prices 1300$ direct flight from Boston.

I was sad to see that the $$ from Burlington have gone up about 50-60$ a person  But I was able to secure us a a good deal from Hartford, CT 5 hr drive from Montreal for our upcoming trip.
