I have heard horror stories about ART being unreliable to get to DLR from hotels that aren't within walking distance. My question is does this get better in the summer and if not are there any other/better options for me?

It really does not get any better. They seem to run on a +/- 20 minutes schedule. The best thing is to ask the driver of your route what time the breaks are and be patient. I forgot where you are staying, always better to stay close, you do not loose park time that way.

Best Western Meridian Inn.

A bit far out. Your a big guy so unless you are a great walker your stuck with driving or using ART. Just make sure you ask the driver each day and you will develope a plan quickly.

I thought I had read that they now have a text system, where you could text them a route number and stop, and their system would text back the arrival time of the next couple of busses. Or was that another system I'm thinking of? I don't see it on their web page now...

For the 3 times I have used ART, they have been professional and reliable. Always arrived within a minute or two of the posted times. The last time I used ART was in September of 2010 and it was prompt and clean. One problem was when there was a bomb scare and the whole drop off area was closed off. I have never waited more than 25 minutes for a bus because we just missed the previous bus.

If staying at one of the south Harbor hotels it maybe faster to walk to the Toy Story lot and catch a free bus from there. Always fast and easy.

We used it in September a few years back and it was fine. No problems. Just not convenient. We much prefer (after doing it) staying on site so we can go back to the hotel on a whim.

We used ART for two of our multi-day trips in the last year and a half and both times they were professional and reliable. The first trip we even had small children with us and they were so reliable the kids never got fussier than they already were. ;)

On our trip in July we will either use ART or park onsite (Yay APs!), but I'd not hesitate to use ART again. Perhaps different routes are more reliable than others, but I'd blame horrible Anaheim traffic (I've driven in it enough myself, those lights are as bad as Las Vegas stoplights that last FOREVER) not ART. :goodvibes

Some of the hotels on Harbour now have their own shuttles. I used one from Homewood Suites in December. It ran every 30 minutes and was always on time.
