Arrrrgh!! Insurance companies !!

DS#2 just got a nasty letter from an insurance company saying that he had been in an accident involving property damage and that now they would be collecting from him !!

We had no idea who the guy named on the claim was or what the complaint was! So, after several phone calls, it seems that DS#2 was involved in an accident in Reading, PA on May 23rd. He was driving a Honda Accord and they figured it was him from the license plate. Okay, well, DS#2 has never been to Reading, PA, has never owned his own car, and we drive two Fords (in my name only), not Hondas. Also, on May 23rd, he was on a Senior Class trip to Cedar Point!!!

I have no idea what is going on here, so we called a local rep for the same company (his daughters are friends of my son) and he's going to look into it tomorrow.

Do they think we're stupid enough to just give out our insurance numbers and credit card info?

First of all I dont see how they could prove it was him if it wasnt really. I would call your insurance company and talk to someone to let them know what is going on. They may have some helpful advise for you.
I wouldnt give these people one but of info, sounds like it could be some type of scam. If they contact you I would tell them to contact your atty (even if you dont have one it could scare them off) or tell them to speak to your insurance rep.
Just be careful it sounds kind of fishy to me.

report this to your insurer. you policy may cover you for this case of mistaken identity, and your insurer may be able to get to the bottom of it faster than you can.
