We've stayed at POR before and have always been able to get the kind of room we wanted when we checked in. Arriving at night seemed to make a difference. I asked for a second floor corner room (two windows instead of one), and was told that one would be available the next morning. That was fine with us, so off we went to our room, unpacked just the bare necessaties, and hit the sack.
SUNDAY morning bell services picked up our luggage to store for our room change later in the day. We had breakfast in the food court and headed off to the Magic Kingdom, along with EVERYONE else in WDW, or so it seemed. It was packed!! It was cool out, but sunny, the first nice day after 2 days of rain, so it seemed as if everyone was making up for lost vacation time.
We used fastpasses to ride BTMRR and HM. Did some shopping on Main St., had a tasty burger for lunch at Pecos Bills (?), and rode TTA for a little "I ate too much" rest. We also rode POTC, DH's favourite.
We decided the park was just too crowded for us, so we left about 5:30 and headed back to POR. Our new room was ready, and I was about to get a nice surprise. When we entered our room DH noticed that the message waiting light was flashing on the phone. This always makes me nervous. I immediately think something is wrong at home, but not this time. It was a message from my dear friend (and DISer), Gina2000!! Gina and I have only "spoken" on the Dis, so I was thrilled that she had called and that I was finally able to hear her voice, even though I didn't get to speak with her....yet!
While we had been at the MK, we kept asking people if they knew what had happened at the Olympics with the men's gold medal hockey game. No one knew, and it wasn't until we were back at POR that we found out that Canada had won!!!!
Yipee!!
With our room ready, I could finally settle in for the week. First order of business, a coffee maker and all the fixins'. This is extremely important! I just don't operate well in the morning without my java jolt. Next, some of those little packages of peanut butter from the food court, and........bananas!! More about bananas later.
Off to the food court for a late snack, a brief stop at the bar/lounge so DH could enjoy a Sambucca and for me, a yummy Southern Belll, a few laps of Daytona500 at the arcade (guess who won? lol), and we called it a night.
Gina's phone call and Canada's hockey win had helped to make it a really magical, golden day.
