We've stayed at POR before and have always been able to get the kind of room we wanted when we checked in. Arriving at night seemed to make a difference. I asked for a second floor corner room (two windows instead of one), and was told that one would be available the next morning. That was fine with us, so off we went to our room, unpacked just the bare necessaties, and hit the sack.

SUNDAY morning bell services picked up our luggage to store for our room change later in the day. We had breakfast in the food court and headed off to the Magic Kingdom, along with EVERYONE else in WDW, or so it seemed. It was packed!! It was cool out, but sunny, the first nice day after 2 days of rain, so it seemed as if everyone was making up for lost vacation time.

We used fastpasses to ride BTMRR and HM. Did some shopping on Main St., had a tasty burger for lunch at Pecos Bills (?), and rode TTA for a little "I ate too much" rest. We also rode POTC, DH's favourite.

We decided the park was just too crowded for us, so we left about 5:30 and headed back to POR. Our new room was ready, and I was about to get a nice surprise. When we entered our room DH noticed that the message waiting light was flashing on the phone. This always makes me nervous. I immediately think something is wrong at home, but not this time. It was a message from my dear friend (and DISer), Gina2000!! Gina and I have only "spoken" on the Dis, so I was thrilled that she had called and that I was finally able to hear her voice, even though I didn't get to speak with her....yet! :)

While we had been at the MK, we kept asking people if they knew what had happened at the Olympics with the men's gold medal hockey game. No one knew, and it wasn't until we were back at POR that we found out that Canada had won!!!! :) Yipee!!

With our room ready, I could finally settle in for the week. First order of business, a coffee maker and all the fixins'. This is extremely important! I just don't operate well in the morning without my java jolt. Next, some of those little packages of peanut butter from the food court, and........bananas!! More about bananas later.

Off to the food court for a late snack, a brief stop at the bar/lounge so DH could enjoy a Sambucca and for me, a yummy Southern Belll, a few laps of Daytona500 at the arcade (guess who won? lol), and we called it a night.

Gina's phone call and Canada's hockey win had helped to make it a really magical, golden day. :)

Was POR very busy?
Were the food court 'stands' all open?

Thanks for another great report!

A fine day to start out

hmmm bananas?????????

Thanks for posting!

Imagine not knowing who won the hockey game, whats up with these people. Ha ha. Was the corner room nice? Sounds like you are off to good start.

Hi yepod, Marla, hockey mom, and daltonsdodisney, thank you for reading the report! :)

Yepod, in the mornings everything was open in the food courts, later in the evening it was usually just the pizza place and bakery. It seemed to change all the time during the day and at night though. It wasn't very busy at all when we were there.

Hockey mom, you're right....what's up with that....LOL! I like the corner rooms, with the two windows they're a lot brighter. I don't know if I mentioned that we were in the AB section.

Daltonsdodisney, the boats to DTD weren't running....a bummer I know, I always enjoyed that trip. Maybe they'll be running again when your're there.
Only two of the mansions had any cars in the parking lots, the others appeared to be closed, for now anyway.

Marla, yes, bananas....................lol

gina who???? Never heard of her.

Well, my dear, I couldn't resist the opportunity to call you and give you the opportunity to hear my musical voice - not that I expected you to listen to it over and over......

We Joiseyans apparently have an accent.......:p

I'm glad to see you're trip started off on the right foot.....kiss that gorgeous hubby for me!

Great trip report. I like those corner rooms, too. Ooohhh, That boat ride at night to DTD is so cool.

Ray :)

Great trip report Kim! LOL, about the coffee/peanut butter/banana thing....more to follow I suppose! Is there a peanut butter fondue thing that happens along with the coffee ritual? :D That certainly was nice of Gina to call you!

Great start! Sounds like you had an awesome first day.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the reports!

Gina, Ray, FairyGodfriend, GreatBiscuit....Hi!, so nice to see you, and thank you very much for reading my report! :)

Ray, unfortunately the boat ride to DTD isn't operating right now. I hope they can start it again someday, it was great!

Hi Kim, I finally made my way over to the trip reports board and am pleased to see your reports were up!

We had a corner room at POR when we last stayed there and it really makes a difference doesn't it! I went over to the resort last week for dinner one night and to look around~I really love it there, going to have to stay there again~and sadly the boat was still not running.

I'm looking forward to reading the next installment about your trip! :)

BTW, I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches!
