Arrest ordered for mom of boy, 13, resisting chemo
So does this mean you and DH never go to a Dr because of Western Medicine ? And if you got Cancer that was malignant would you totally avoid western medicine for treatment? Also not sure if you have kids but would you avoid treatment for your child like Chemo? And just go holistic or something? Curious...
Most likely she wouldn't. Her husband apparently also cured himself of TYPE 1diabetes by eating cinnamon rolls.

Bumber won't be back. She ever only posts once with her "wisdom" then doesn't post again. If she truly believed in the crap she spouts, she'd be back to defend it.

Imabrat: Congrats on the 14 months! Here's to being cancer free the rest of your life!!!

I would like to know more about this boy, not being able to read at 13 jumped out at me right away too.

Maybe his mom is one of those crazies who doesn't believe in education. Given her apparent stance on Western medicine, I wouldn't be surprised. Either way, I feel horrible that the poor child is saddled with a mother like that. I've heard of people like that before - who think everyone is out to get them and everything is a big conspiracy. And if they want to turn their back on modern conveniences and medical treatments then that's their own business. They shouldn't be allowed to inflict their paranioa on helpless children, though. I hope they find the boy before it's too late for him.

And imabrat - :cheer2: Congrats! Ignore Bumbershoot, she pops into lots of threads to spout her interesting facts about medicine . . . and milk, and everything else. She certainly has some . . . unique views.

This makes me crazy. My ds had bone cancer when he was 3.
'
In order to have any chance of survival he had to have his leg amputated and a year of very strong chemo.

That was a no brainer to me. Either we do the surgery and the chemo or he dies (in pain). Of course there was a chance that the chemo could do damage, or God forbid, kill him. Without chemo the chance of him dying was 100% -[ with chemo 50%.

Yes it is heartbreaking to watch your child go through this. I never knew your heart could literally feel like it was breaking until this happened to us.

Today he is 24 years old, a college graduate, working full time with a good job and CANCER FREE!!!!!!

Well, in this case you said "brain tumor". Not all brain tumors are cancerous, just like not all bone tumors are cancerous, etc.

You are absolutely right, imabrat.

Ignore bumber. She routinely pops in to spew her quackery, and always to talk about HER husband's brain, HER mother's bleeding ulcer, HER labor and delivery.

I am thrilled at scientific medicine has given you 14 cancer-free months, and hopefully, many, many more ahead.

Thank you everyone! My check-up scans from this week came back all clear so I'm safe for another 4 months, thank you God.

From one bone cancer survivor to another,. By my 15th birthday I had a knee replacement, hearing aids (due to chemo, I lost part of my hearing), and was in a wheelchair.

:grouphug: :cheer2:

Imagine how much more of a no-brainer it would have been, if they'd told you all your son needed was 6 outpatient doses of chemo and there was a 90% chance of cure.

I could understand withholding treatment if there was little to no hope of a cure, but I can't understand not wanting your child to survive :sad2:

:banana: Yay! Hopefully you'll live the rest of your life cancer free. :goodvibes

As for Bumbershoot, there was no reason for her to practically attack imabrat. Although, I can (to a small degree) understand where she's coming from. While there are many doctors that are great at what they do, most are not aware of alternative treatments or they dismiss them as someone's crazy idea.

I believe that all doctors should be trained in all forms of medicine and treatment. And that insurance companies should have to also recognize that some alternatives are better than modern medicine in some cases and they should pay for them. Unfortunately, drug companies might lose some money from this.

My heart goes out to this child. It's a shame how he got to 13 without being able to read. But, if he was kept at home and never went to school, this is very possible. It seems that the woman is all about controlling her son and everything he does and knows.

I, myself, prefer natural methods if possible. But if it's not going to work, they give me modern medicine. I don't care what it is or where it comes from as long as it works.

Wonderful news! You are very brave to have gone through what you have! :cheer2:

ETA--CONGRATS imabrat for your good report!!!!

I agree, but what people need to realize is that not all Western medicine is BAD, just the same that not all Eastern or alternative treatments are quackery.

When my dad was undergoing chemo, he was also taking some herbal supplements that helped with the nausea, and sometimes that would be all he needed to feel better.

What I think got people up in arms was Bumbershoot's condescending attitude, and her attitude that all Western, modern medicine is BAD. For someone who is allegedly so free thinking and open, it seems to be a pretty closed minded opinion.

Well, considering that I seem to be the only one in the world who thinks the Travoltas were in the wrong for not trying one of the twelve other anti-seizure meds available for kids, I have to agree with the judge.

OT: What herbal supplements? You can PM them to me if you would prefer.

Off the top of my head I don't remember. We're so thrilled he's cancer free, that I've wiped most of the details from my brain....

I'll get with my mom and see if I can get the info for you.

IMO, I belive that what the parents are doing is wrong BUT its up to them on how they will treat they're child and it shouldn't have been taken to court.

Ginger and lemon drops are supposed to help.

(yes, I practice Western or scientific medicine, but I don't have anything against natural or herbal remedies - as long as they are not at the expense of scientically proven treatments.)

Did you hear the sound of the buzzer? That says that the statement is wrong. (yes I changed the way I said that, I just get so ANGRY at American "culture" and the religion of western medicine...western medicine has gotten control of the laws, the courts, everyone, and it is ridiculous and harmful to MANY people) Almost 10 years ago my husband healed a brain tumor withOUT any western medicine. Hyperbaric chamber treatments, enzymes, a severe macrobiotic diet (no fish b/c the fish we can get in America fish are so polluted). By the first post-diagnosis MRI it was already shrinking. Inside 2 years it was gone. Never a bit of radiation, not a drop of chemo, and it was inoperable.

He had to fight the diagnosing doctors at University of WA Medical Center. He had to hire an attorney to protect him b/c they were threatening him with being committed and treated against his will.

He was making about 20K a year and had to pay for all of his "alternative" treatments out of pocket. No one could "treat" him for the tumor, b/c in WA, at least, it's not legal for anyone but an oncologist to "treat cancer". So it was all considered supportive for his body's immune system, not treating it.

And it's gone, and by the time I met him it had been gone for a couple years.

If you read a bio of Dirk Benedict, you'll find out that he healed testicular cancer in just about the same way.

You don't hear about it b/c the doctors can't talk about it, b/c it's not allowed for people to treat cancer patients (for the cancer) in any OTHER way than the drugs or radiation.

But just b/c you don't hear about doesn't mean it doesn't happen every day.

And if he dies because of the treatment? Or how about despite the treatment?

Or how about because of something else they did along with the treatment?

My mom died b/c of a missed diagnosis of a bleeding ulcer, which was exacerbated b/c of the blood thinners they still had her on, despite being in remission from leukemia. Her doctors stopped billing when my stepdad reminded them of the four BIG symptoms she had in the month before she died, that they laughed at, ignored, and said "huh, that's weird" to. He could have sued them, righteously, for who knows HOW much money for missing that...after all, her chiropractor daughter, within a moment of being told the symptoms, had diagnosed that bleeding ulcer. Shouldn't have been that hard for the MDs, but they missed it, and they slunk away and stopped billing (even insurance), after stepdad reminded him of that.

So, if he dies because of or despite the western medical treatment...you'll be 100% behind the doctors taking full responsibility????????

Maybe you should write a book on alternative medicine and the woes you have encountered in the cruel medical community? In all seriousness, you seem to have many experiences where you or a family member have been killed or seriously injured by modern medicine.
