My ring has a 2 ct pear-shaped diamond with some tiny diamonds that go around the band.

We got engaged when DH was 30 an I was 29, so DH was able to afford a lot more ring than if he had been younger. It's a very beautiful ring and I hope to pass it down to a daughter or granddaughter someday!

omg...that is so hysterical:laughing:l....thanks for making me laugh...something I have not done in quite a while...just recently back on boards. My DH who passed recently loved WDW. Was our last vacation together. It was hard to come back to this site.....and you an unknown stranger...made me laugh out loud....actually first time in 2 monthsl....thank you for seeing life as it should be...ups, downs, the good and the bad..

So sorry about your DH. I am glad I was able to make you laugh. Life can be a little crazy, in my life sometimes a little more crazy, but the rings were things. My DH was never upset, just rolled his eyes at me and said he still had me. I did promise to try and not lose, grind or vacuum these rings. I hope you find more to laugh at as the days go by.

1.5 total. The center stone is .75, and there are 12 stones tucked under the carriage of the setting

I no longer have an engagement or wedding band but I'll be getting a new wedding band soon. I don't want a new engagement ring since I've never liked diamonds & I don't remember how big my old ring was, things like that don't matter to me.

.04 ct, they even went to the trouble to mark it in the ring ;)

DH and I were starving college students when we married. My ring was $150 in the BX (Air Force) catalog. Wouldn't trade it for anything. :)

I have a beautiful 1 carat round diamond, from my grandmother's ring (the diamond was appraised at $5K 15 years ago). DH and I were living together at the time, and she offered it up, and since our finances were pooled, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on MY ring (my setting cost over $1K, as did my wedding ring). I love it! :goodvibes

My ring is blue and white sapphires that total 1ct.

I don't have one. We'd been together for four years, but he'd just graduated college and just started his first job two weeks before the wedding. He proposed with a beautiful ruby ring that had been in my family. It was 1/2c and surrounded by diamonds. Sadly, a few years ago a prong broke and I lost the stone. We haven't replaced it yet, as we found out about a week later that I was pregnant, and there's always been something else to do after that. I really haven't been that worried about it. We'll get it replaced some day. My wedding band has 10 small diamonds in it, so there's still some bling there.

I put less then as there were no other options. I don't have an ingagement ring. Hubby and I were in the navy and had very little funding. I don't even have a wedding ring.

You are not alone. I don't have an engagement or wedding ring either.

I voted 3/4 but it's actually just shy of 1 carate, I just KNOW it's not 1 carat so I couldn't vote that!

I think it's really neat to see outcome from this poll. It shows an interesting demographic skew in results as the majority of ladies on our poll have 1 carat or higher:

"Today, the national average for the diamonds chosen for engagement rings with regard to carat weight is 0.38 carats. ... the average price spent on a diamond engagement ring these days is somewhere between $2500 and $3000."

VERY interesting. I would have thought that everyone picks a BIG diamond these days.
When we got engaged, I picked out my loose diamond. The store didn't have anything already set that I liked. DH had been engaged before and had the "other" ring as trade in. That's the ONLY way I got the 1/3 carat that I DID get :rotfl: Total cost was 550 including the setting....
I have had things added to it since those days. My Mom's wedding ring had lots of little diamonds. Had those added around it and then a wrap to that. Made it look LOTS bigger :worship: I don't wear it anymore though.

My first engagement ring was an 8mm pearl with a marquise cut saphire on each side. Unfortunately, the pearl fell out and I lost it. :sad1: So, DH replaced my ring with a round cut diamond solitaire. I have no idea what carat it is because I wasn't there when he purchased it. But I think it's about 1/2 to 3/4 carat.

Mine is a sapphire (with a few tiny diamonds around it) as well, I love it! No idea about the carat, etc. but it sure is purty! I'm sure it only cost a few hundred bucks. I'm not a big jewelry person either and I would have rather the money went toward vacations.

I was very lucky as my DH was close friends with a diamond dealer in Manhattans diamond district. He, with the help of his friend created a ring that has a round diamond (1 carat) with 14 hand cut round diamonds surrounding it. It was rated VVS1...both the main stone and the side stones. It is a beautiful ring and really sparkles.

I had to call DH and ask this...and he had to call his mother and ask her LOL!

Mine is a 1 carat old miners cut, which is a pretty rare cut. The diamond was in his aunt's engagement ring, and when she passed away in 2007, she left the ring to him in her will stating "use this to ask Katie to marry you." :lovestruc He took the diamond out and had it reset in the ring I have, it had two baguettes on either side and then eight really small diamonds on either side also. I LOVE it!!! Actually, this thread made me look at it and smile!

I can honestly say that DH could have proposed to me with an onion ring and I would have said yes!!!

:rotfl:

Just like a man. ;)

Bet she would love a ring. :thumbsup2

They may have talked about it and she may actually prefer to have something else to a ring. I'm like that too. I'd much rather have a family vacation or something else than a ring, especially if said ring was going to be very expensive. If DH were going to buy a $10,000 + ring, I'd rather have a DVC. He knows me well enough to know that.

That being said, I have a 3/4 carat diamond. It's the same ring my Dad proposed to my mom with and since he died when I was a child it's very meaningful. However, the ring has sat on a ring stand for the last five and a half years- it hasn't fit since my pregnancy with my twins and while it probably fits again, I'm just not a jewelry person, or at least not a fancy jewelry/diamond person. DH does feel a bit sad that he never went and picked out a ring himself, one that matches our personalities so I may get another ring at some point and this time it would be a gemstone, likely aquamarine. BUT, not at the sake of something else. As I mentioned above, at this point in time I would much rather have a vacation or something like that.

My engagment/wedding ring has 2, 1 carat miners cut round diamonds and has 1.25 carats of baguettes and .25 in round diamonds for a total of 3.5.

Interesting. I wonder if some women don't really know the size of the rock in the ring? After all, it's usually the guy who buys it. I know the carat weight because we had the rings insured. Mine's .289 carat.

We didn't buy the diamond; DH's mom gave it to us. It was from her first marriage, to DH's father. Spent a ton on the setting and wedding bands. They were all custom-made platinum rings. With the price of that metal going up, we doubt we could afford the same rings now. Some people thought it was weird that I was re-using a diamond from a marriage that didn't last. But who cares? It's just a stone. I wasn't interested in a diamond ring initially; I wanted a sapphire ring. But I thought about it and decided it didn't really matter, I could always buy a sapphire ring later (they're not that expensive) and I have sapphire side stones on the ring instead.

The ring that really matters to me is my wedding band. I was so upset during the last two months of my pregnancy when I couldn't wear it. Gave birth and two days later tried it back on and it fit! :woohoo:

I don’t wear mine, but the center stone is a perfect, princess cut diamond that is a little over one carrot and then there is another .25 carrots on both sides going down the band of inlaid princess cut diamonds for a total of just over 1.5 carrots. My wedding band is also inlaid with princess cut diamonds, 1 carrot total weight.

We were actually engaged for almost a year (18 month total engagement) before he bought me a ring.
