Army Tours Extended

I just saw that on the news as well. Hopefully it won't impact your DH's deployment.

Well, I guess there goes our summer vacation. DBIL was coming home in June and we were all going on a famly vacation together but looks like that won't be happening now. :(

I thought we voted for a president who is supposed to follow the will of the country. I did not vote for a dictator that feels he can do whatever he wishes.

Sorry to hear this news. I can not imagine how anyone will join the armed forces after seeing how they are treated by the govmt.

Been thinking about you a lot lately, sweetheart. I saw this on Yahoo! News yesterday morning and immediately went to you. Alex left Sunday and is in Kuwait- where it's too hot (compared to Seattle) and sand-storming. He's as happy as a clam :sad2: He's got this to look forward to for two years.

xoxo

I'm so sorry. :(

My prayers are with Alex...

Nice to hear from you :)

:worried: Definitely not good news for oh so many who already have weary minds, bodies, hearts and souls. If I remember correctly aren't the soldiers already pulling some of the longest deployments at 1 yr, while many other branches do 3 or 6mos, or am I way off base here??

:grouphug: Prayers to all our military and the loved ones keeping the home fires burning.

Yes the ARMY is pulling 12 month tours already. NG is not effected nor is The Marines etc. I'd like to believe when they say that they will be home 12 mos after a 15 mos deployment but I am having a hard time grasping that. Since 2003 my DH has been in country for 11 mos total....his last tour to Kuwait was extended to 15 mos.

Hey Katie, I'm so sorry. I know how upset you are. Honestly I cried today hearing whats going to happen. I can't even imagine having to leave Matt at the tarmac knowing it will now be longer than 12 months and I'd be impressed if it is just 15 months now. I have little faith that dwell time will be 12 months at home.

Heck you and I both know even when they are stateside, they aren't home. They are in the field for a month or out training somewhere for a month and then specialized training for 3 months. Sometimes it's just heartbreaking isn't it? Remember, Katie, you are still more than halfway done and you can get through this. You have done a wonderful job so far.

:sad2: I am so sorry. These deployment lengths are getting out of control!
We are almost at the year mark and have another 10 months or so to go! Hubby is national guard and are on a blanket order for 2 years! :sad1:
Military life is not easy at all. And I am so sorry that his tour got extended. Stay strong and know you are almost done! Take care of yourself ok?

And they wonder why so many people come home and can no longer function in their family. They've been gone too long!

Rumors are flying in this military community. I am awaiting DH's call to find out if he has been extended, they had a briefing this morning (Iraq time). :(

Just to let you know there are other services that do 14 mo tours!!! It just doesn't make the news like the Army!!!

The army reserves and national guard usually get 18-24 month orders, though 12 months of that is usually deployed, the rest is in training beforehand.

Active duty marines and reservist are almost always 7 months. I read this is not changing.

AF started out at 3 months, then 4 months. My DH (army reservist) served with some there for 6 months and he heard of others pulling a year. Some AF positions are still 3 and 4 months.

DH worked with an active duty Navy Officer who was pulling 6 months. Not sure if that is the norm.

It is the active duty army that will see some increasing to 15 month tours. This has happened before with some units.

I think this increase is to meet the larger requirement of troops on the ground during the buildup. I have heard about it possibly happening for some time now.

It IS a long time away. Only one R&R in that time frame too.
