Ariel's New Look Debuts at Walt Disney World

As a guy who has no fashion sense whatsoever, the dress looks fine to me.

I already said I love the skirt. And it looks even better when twirling.

But I just can't get past those awful sleeves.

I agree. Skirt is nice, sleeves, not so much.

Looking at the picture again, I noticed that the bodice part was seperate, probably easier for Ariel's "friend" to put on.

The bodices have always been separate on the princess characters. This is no different. But these bodices have a dropped waist and I have noticed that on some it just is too loose at the waist and it accentuates that it is a separate piece.

Perhaps they just don't have enough inventory yet of the new gowns to have enough of the right sizes for everyone? :confused3

I thought I had read that Ariel was supposed to be out sooner but they ran into some sort of problem. I'm wishing they had taken a little bit longer and changed up that bodice.

I'm prepared to like the main part of the bodice more in person, maybe without a flash reflecting off that fabric, but I just don't see any way on earth I will like those sleeves. That lower sheer part just looks off to me, so bland compared to that pretty sparkly skirt.

The original dress was supposed to debut in June. However, apparently they felt they couldn't get it right and needed to wait. I'd hate to think how bad the last prototype was. :lmao:

Poor Ariel. This must be how Miley Cyrus felt.

I showed it to DD(7) last night pretending I loved it. Told her to come look at Ariel's beautiful new dress. DD took one look at the computer screen, and then looked at me like I was crazy and said "Those sleeves are way too big and puffy. She looks like Giselle, not Ariel, and she has yucky long scratchy gloves under her sleeves. How can she even walk through a door with those things? And- what's wrong with her hair? It looks weird and where is her flower? You really like it? I bet Ariel doesn't.":rotfl2:

That was followed about a minute later by "Is she gonna be wearing that when we go to WDW, because if she is, I don't think I want a picture with her this time. Can we still find her with her tail instead?"

I think it is pretty. Sleeves are a bit wild, but I'm not wearing it! ;)

While I totally acknowledge my girls have never seen Little Mermaid, they did know this was Ariel at first glance. DD7 has those tiny princess dolls and her Arial came with a greenish dress similar in color. I saw the movie 25 years ago. I couldn't tell you what she did or did not wear. :p

I think the sleeves make her look like a refugee from the 80's.

I find this debate funny, considering Cinderella's gown never looked like hers in the movie, same for sleeping beauty..

Aurora's dress looked like the one she wore in the movie, but they chose pink instead of blue.

Cinderella's dress is a slight improvement to her previous dress. However, it was obvious that the dress she wore was similar to her ballgown. This dress Ariel wears is like nothing she wore in her movie.

I'm actually past caring if it looked like anything she wore in the movie. I mean..... the old green one didn't either.

I just think the top half is ugly.

there was nothing stunning about ariel's wardrobe in the movie. the kiss the girl dress looks too similar to aurora's in the movie, the pink gown wasn't something to talk about. Disney had to make something that made you think she was a mermaid hence the green. They could have went with the pink one but that doesn't scream mermaid and they'd have to definately spruce it up greatly.

The new dress doesn't look "mermaid" to me. It looks bad 80's bridesmaid dress. :crazy2:

idk.. the bodice looks like a good representation of fins with the sharp peaks. the sleeves kinda remind me of jellyfish or something.. I definitely see an aquatic symbolism.
